I'm new to Northern Soul and I'm only 27, I have learning disabilities and anxiety. But ever since living with my mum and stepdad they were the ones that got me into in, They taught me how to dance and I've learnt myself too, I go to Northern Soul nights with them and people who I meet always say I'm a good dancer, I reply with I'm still learning. I just feel connected with the music This is one of my fav songs.

The heart of northern soul was Wigan in Lancashire! These American stars were hardly known in the USA but when they came to northern England they were mobbed at the airport and became very famous here and still are! Still today we have northern soul nights!

Wow! Things have changed since the mid 80s… Flares are in! Who'd guess that? And no Mohair anywhere? Shame to see so few holding the flame these days but I guess these are the most dedicated diehards, Well done one and all. Loving the memories of the best days of my life, thanks. RIP my LI150, The Scooter rallies and the thousands of like-minded people across the whole UK who gathered for the music (first) and the lifestyle.

@@johnhoward6494 you can give it a go, I was raised on heavy rock music but discovered Northern soul via older friends at youth club back home nr Wrexham in the mid 70's. I have had a foot in both camps ever since, and always will. Enjoy all the great tracks people kindly upload for our pleasure. Ktf.

It's mostly late '60s, early '70s R&B and soul that didn't chart in the US. I remember hearing many of the songs growing up back then. Had no idea those songs created a phenomenon in Northern England. I hope there's still a scene there when I cross the Atlantic in a few years for a vacation in London. That's gonna be a wild experience for sure!
