80s-90s was the golden era of stage and cinema . We were blessed with unbelievably talented creators of stage plays and motion pictures . From Ediriveera sarathchandra , Henry Jayasena ,Somalatha subasinghe,Simon navagathegama R R samarakoon , Datmasiri Bandaranaike , Gunasena galappatti, Dayananda gunawardaha, parakrama niriella, Damma Jagoda, Jayalal Rigana, Sugarhapala de Silva, bandula vithanage , Namel weeramuni. Lucien bulathsinhala , Jayalarh monoratne and many more to mention which I won't be able to find space. It was an era of overwhelming amount of legends who entertained us with their awesome creations in theatre, cinema and music . I still remember the huge cutouts made alongside Maradana bridge for stage plays. Sinhabahu, Hunuvate kathava ,venecia velebda, tharavo igilethi, methanin maruvenu , mee pura versiyo, maname, uthure rahula himi, balloth ekka behe, kelani palama, neynage suduva , vikurthi , Suba Saha yasa, davala beeshana, thala mala pipila, nari bena, raja kapuru, moodu puththu, Marasaad, makarakshaya... and I have missed many more than I mentioned. Not to mention legendary TV personalities From Titus thotawatta to Premakeerthi de alvis and in music Pandit Amaradva , Nanda Malani (pavana) , Victor ratnauake (saa) , mohideen Begh master and of course our own Jothi ( some might not agree to consider jothipala , but he is indeed a legend on his own merit to Sri Lankan music) . It was an overflowing treats that these legends have gave us during our prime. I feel sorry for this generation who missed so much that they cannot even imagine. There was no shortage of creativity and forward thinking those days which could be one of the primary reasons why the youth uprising (JVP) has occurred. We have lost many people due to the act of nature and due to the act of terror. It must have been so different if these people lived today. God bless their souls.
