So happy that they are available now in the UK. I really hope they do well there. I love my 2018 GearUp!

Ok, let’s get some things straight. The 2WD is a lock differential so you use it when it’s needed to get you unstuck. You can engage it on the fly without clutching as it’s engaged directly to the final drive. You do not use it all the time and on paved roads. First it will be hard to maneuver because the sidecar wheel engaged is physically forward of the pusher wheel. So… use the 2wd when needed and then disengage. Leaving 2wd. On all the time on paved roads will damage it.2nd. Reverse. It can go fast in reverse. Fast enough to flip you right over if your not careful.So walking speed only in reverse. The price, yes IMHO they have become pricey but it’s not fair to compare the price of the older Ural’s of the late 90’s and 2000’s. There has been many improvements to these rigs and they are light years ahead of the early models. I’m on my 2nd. Ural and they are a tinkering machine. Drive them within their limits and do the routine maintenance and you’ll get years of joy out of them. If you expect Honda reliability you’ll be very disappointed. These rigs are not for the super slabs. They run best between 45-65 mph. Yes they can go a little faster but they at the top end of their powerband and above 70 mph if you ride them hard like that for long periods, something’s gonna so south.I could go on and on about them. I love mine. I hate mine. My wife absolutely loves it! One other thing… If your the shy type and don’t like to talk to people, don’t buy a Ural. Ural’s are magnets for people and you’ll get constant attention. We in the Ural world call it,”UDF” Ural delay factor. Be prepared to answer allot of questions. I tell people it’s the most fun I’ve ever had on a motorcycle and it’s the most maintenance intensive. I’ve been into motorcycles for over 50 yrs. It’s all good…

Just shows you the demise of the £ and the UK. I was looking at these bikes in the late 70s/80s when they cost about £600!! Fabulous underpowered, crude simplicity... but the cost now is unreal.

A lot, like everything, on these has been changed since then though. I worked on ones made as they were then, and to call them farm equipment is telling that any farmer trying to get use from that quality would starve. Those soviet carbs were hilarious, the sheer ugliness of the castings, and hardware that looked like it was hand made by prisoners was shocking, replacement parts were just as bad. A miracle they ran at all, but they did run between repairs. The new ones may not be Honda quality, but they're vastly redesigned and far better made. They're not cheap, but what is anymore?

I hear what you say about the Economic decline of the UK and its currency ( I left the UK ...), but the 'new' Ural is largely composed of 'bought in' parts like Brembo brakes etc etc, hence the price. It still requires more looking after than a modern bike but owners swear by the new ones and they keep their value well.

Useful video, I've been following them for a while and was keen to see the sidecar arrangement for the UK. Unfortunately the £18,000 is much higher than I thought it would be and rules it out for me. If Royal Enfield were to do an equivalent 2WD with their Himalayan I reckon it'd easily outsell the Ural.

Now all the they only cost X back in the day (no kidding), I can build one cheaper than that folks shall come out... Go out, buy a new bike (with enough frame for a sidecar, or get a subframe built, good luck) and a new sidecar, say a Watsonian (I actually own one, it's on my Harley) and get it painted and mounted and that it doesn't ride quite as good as the Ural, so you bought a leading link front end for it...but still does not have reverse nor 2WD, and you voided the warranty so no (in the US) 2 year unlimited mileage warranty... Now tell me how much OVER £18,000 you spent? Go ahead, price it, I dare you.

A rambling amateur brief for no doubt an excellent product. I’m sorry but the presenter has to up his game when compared to the slick PR machines of the big boys. It was amateurish overview - from the “fun ammo box” to “popping” needs work. Sorry

Agree. He really needed to work to a script and to have practised it beforehand (and got feedback from others re' 'polishing' it). The bike deserved better.

What's the retail price in Russia.
@alfnoakes3923 жыл бұрын
I understand that the bikes sold in Russia do not have Brembo brakes etc etc. Old ones in Russia are apparently cheap-as, but are worn-out and poor quality. A couple of weeks ago there was a 'barn find' one from Latvia on Ebay.

They are over priced. In Ireland they start at 18.800 euros. I would love one but can't imagine spending that amount. Its a same ural is not looking into this issue.

@David MacGregor - so you won’t buy an antique Russian bike, but you would buy an American antique? Interesting!
@davidmacgregor51933 жыл бұрын
@@bryanduncan1640 The H-D Milwaukee-Eight motor was introduced in 2017, so it's hardly an antique. Unlike Ural models, Harley Davidson's have evolved over the years, they still retain some of their classic looks but have modern features like keyless ignition and satnav. Ural's are so dated looking that they are used in the making of films set in WWII.
@bryanduncan16403 жыл бұрын
@@davidmacgregor5193 - I didn’t say that all H-D’s were antique, they just look antique with an antique mentality to appeal to people with an antique point of view. Ural’s just haven’t evolved because they already do what is required; i.e. they’re not for posers!
