Merry Christmas everyone from beautiful wife, crazy neighbor, and I! I was editing and editing and then finally said GOOD ENOUGH or else it's going to be an after Christmas video. All the best to you and your families, and thanks so much for making this a great year for us. I was technically allowed to be camping in this lot, but there was the usual drama, the property owner wasn't even sure what the rail police would do if we were camped out there. Cheers and Hunker Down my friends!!!

Steve, and others! Former Union Pacific Railroad worker here. The “Red Zone” is 3 feet away from the tracks. That’s the danger zone. I’ve seen things come off trains from further away that can destroy whatever is in the way. This is very dangerous, please stay as far away from the tracks as possible. Cars can come unhitched and roll silently, cables can come loose and hit and wrap around things out to 8 feet or more. I’ve seen it. Please be safe. Trains look slow and lumbering, but they have mass and can’t stop like you would think. The “Bulls” aren’t trying to harass you, they’re trying to save your life.

I made a very similar video but I camped by the railroad in the country. I was also on private property with permission next to the tracks. The railroad will not come off their property to bother you. You had nothing to be worried about. I make railroad videos all the time. The only time the railroad cares is if you are on their property or if you follow them around with a camera on them but they cannot say anything to you if you are not on their property.

There's more to it than you think, Steve...it's about you inspiring me to rent a cabin at a state park in late December in Michigan. I'm 61 years young and a lady so heat, walls and floors were important to me. Either way the family that came to visit and enjoy the fire knows that you inspired me to get out there and do it...my daughter in law said it a few times.... Now you're camping with Mom. One night alone, 3 with my hubby and man was it worth it!! Thanks for real. That little 4 day trip was a game changer and helped me get into the holidays despite grieving the loss of my Dad and Brother recently. Yup. Much more than camping out by a train track...lol.😎

I could write a list of things that other people do, that I could consider a waste of time. Heck, there are 7 billion of us, we are all going to have different ideas. I can guarantee whatever the naysayers have said to you, any of us could find many things about them that are time-wasters. Ultimately, you are doing something different that most of us may never do, so it's informative and entertaining as well. Such things enrich us. ❤️👍

Not a waste of time at all....I am in Australia, and have been enjoying your vlogs. I have gotten quite a few little extra camping tips and ideas from watching your shows. You introduced me to the ice tents, I had never seen these before. I bought one (just a moderate priced version) through Ebay...I love it. Quick up and down, nice and warm, simple to use, and I can manage it by myself - I am a 69 year old woman. I have also increased my confidence to use my buddy heater safely and effectively. So thanks so much for all the things you try out and share with us.

My grandmother had a brownstone in Queens two houses down from the elevated train line. I miss the days of sleeping in the front bay window at the same level as the elevated train. There was something so soothing about the clickity clack of the trains passing by all night some of the best sleeps I remember ever having and I really miss sleeping with that sound in the background.

Watching you guys whispering while the van stops reminds me of playing as kids in areas we knew we weren’t supposed to be in. We always thought we were well hidden but the whole time the adults were like, “We know you’re there…we can clearly see you.” But we just keep whispering to our friends that they can’t really see us, they’re just saying that to fool us into coming out.

It’s a stealth camping with Steve Christmas special! I used to live in a house by some old railroad tracks. The trains would go by about once a week. It took some time to get used to, but after about a couple of month it didn’t wake me up any longer. I can wait to see where you camp next. Also a high vis safety vest and the attitude that you belong there or just doing your job will trick a lot of people in to thinking you are supposed to be there.
