I once went trekking one afternoon around Hampstead Heath for about 6 hours or so and I saw a guy in a van, similar to yours, cooking his dinner on a spoon and he used a lighter underneath it to heat it! Absolute genius! It must have been a bloody good meal cos he was fast asleep by the time I was heading home 😊

Yes, I always enjoyed it when I was driving wagons...winter was always ok but I remember having a night in Devon in -2 and the night heater wasn’t working, that wasn’t very nice and I remember all drinking water had frozen! Also, the other end was driving on the continent, parked in a lay-by down past Paris, it had been close to 40 in the day and only ac was when engine was running, I had my wife at the time and we ended up sleeping with the engine running with the ac on... not great sleeping above a running 12 litre diesel engine! Anyway, great video

@Got_nuffin_on_me not nice if you need a number 2! I took my wife on a trip to Paris, I’d delivered there a few times before and near the drop was a nice little bakery, I told her to pop in and buy some food whilst I was working, we left and headed up to Tilburg in Holland and parked up for the night, unfortunately whatever it was gave us both bad stomaches, two people living in a box with the shits...not a pleasant experience! Lol As for staying away, I normally did a Monday to a Friday but if you went across the water you normally left on a Sunday... however I do remember when the company gave me my first decent truck, the owner said “ I’m happy to give you this wagon, providing wherever that wagon gets sent, you go with it”. So I could have really been sent anywhere in Europe! Trust me, the novelty soon where’s off!

Great! We did this in the early to mid-1980s when going to concerts at Wembley from Stoke on Trent. Best place we ever picked was right next to the Abbey Road pedestrian crossing where The Beatles were pictured! There were no helicopters then, and the police did visit us once in the district of Bow, and directed us to a safer spot to sleep in out car right outside their police station. They even brought us cups of tea in the morning. Bet that would never happen today....

Great video mate. I used to work as a self employed chauffeur until 2010 and travelled across GB. I live in London but could drop off in Scotland in the evening and not be returning until the following afternoon. I drove a Viano and spent many a night sleeping in it. My favourite spots to park were the 24hr supermarket car parks. Easy access to food/drinks and toilets. As long as I had purchased something the staff left me alone and back then there weren't any time limits in most supermarket car parks. I'd park as far away from the entrance as possible and in the darkest spot for added privacy. It was bitterly cold in winter, brutal to be honest. Two heavy duty sleeping cocoon bags did the trick in the end and an electric hot "water" bottle heated from the 12V socket. Good memories of freer days. All the best for future adventures mate.

Many years back when I was nearer your age and had to sleep in my car at various spots, a way I found to avoid condensation buildup was to keep the internal temp consistent overnight and crack a window open slightly, I had a 12v fan heater and used to put it on the lowest setting and just leave it running all night (had a separate battery for that), never had any major mould or condensation problems.

Dude, you need to be removing the interior trim panels from the back to give an extra 2 foot of space. I also wouldn't be stealth camping in London or any big city for that matter, it's a really good way to get hassle. What I used to do when I lived in my van was find a multi-storey carpark or park at a tesco where there's cameras around. And when it comes to food, cook as little as you can inside but if you have to cook I'd be doing some simple things like ramen, cheese toasties, french toast, omelettes, that sort of thing

Even at 0 degrees, there’s no snow. I didn’t know that could happen. Here in the California mountains, it snows at 25 degrees. Awesome video bro 😎

0 degrees Celsius is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Water turns to ice at this temperature, but temperature does not dictate whether it snows or not. Celsius is the default in UK and most of the world outside of USA.

You can cook Spanish omelette, you must fry the finely cut potatoes and when they are somewhat toasted, not much mix them with two or three eggs already beaten and fry it again extended equally in the pan and leave it over low heat for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that time and with a flat plate you put it on top of the pan, turn the tortilla over and fry it again for another 10 or 15 minutes on the other side, after that time it will be done. You can add to this tortilla, peppers or onion while frying the potatoes, fry it as well. You can eat it with salad and white wine. It will like you.. Thanks for the video and take care.

I've have one of those portable gas stoves and I used it in my kitchen on top of the fridge and it slightly melted the top of the fridge, even though there was an air gap. There doesn't even seem to be an air gap between your stove and the mattress. I think it was more the heat and not the flame itself, but now I have it on a stone kitchen work surface.

I pre cook and freeze one pot meals like stews, chilli etc and just reheat them in the car. Put them in a insulated food bag with ice packs and they can last for days even in the summer.

Good on you!...I did this in London for about 2 years in my van. Streatham seems to have a lot of it , however the spread of regulated parking is making it more difficult. Its really not ideal , but it can work for some people. If you get a little work for 2/3 days it can be ok.

Will, so good to see someone with a similar mindset to my own, have just 'tripped over' your video posts. Hope am not teaching you to suck eggs my friend, a cook tip may be to pre cook your evening meal so that its ready to eat or just requires a quick heat up at the required time. My view on being stealthy in town is prep your sleeping bag etc, drive to location and get your head down with minimum fuss and minimum movement. Suggest moving off very first thing in the morning then get breakfast etc. This is a really good plan in a residential situation. Cheers Mike, County Durham.
