That one of the reasons I want to move to Cornwall, I’ve had many childhood and adult memories touring it. Apparently it’s very poor, I can see what they mean about tourists. I usually go around May for my birthday, it’s still very busy that time. Because there are so many tourists “there isn’t many shops that are useful for the locals” commented one gentleman who moved there to open a business. As long as the people that visit treat the area with respect, do not litter, and not rude and obnoxious. Mostly the beaches that tend to get miss treated with trash, it’s the same with any tourist area where some people just don’t know how to act and behave not like savages. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is a massive contributing factor, for their dislike of tourists. That and the ridiculous price for goods.

There is more to it then just being a beautiful place to live. Things like lack of community can take a massive toll. It doesn't surprise me to see Cornish towns on the list, because after all the tourists leave in summer, they are left with empty and deserted towns. That's what happens when second home owners buy up your town for holiday homes. Yes, 'depressive'? Is it even a word?
@chrisikaris58913 ай бұрын
@@davidmichael9034Yes, it is a word, as a noun - a depressive - it would refer to a person affected by or tending toward depression. Its use as an adjective is tricky. The best way of explaining it is by use of an example. Depression, as a mental disorder, is a depressive disorder. Such a person might experience a depressive episode on any given day. But it would be awkward to refer to the same as a depressing episode in a clinical sense. So the narrator's use of the word depressive is not appropriate. Let me try one more. A person who is a depressive experiences depression. A depressing person would be someone who causes YOU to feel depressed. Obviously someone you would want to avoid! Similarly a place that causes you to feel depressed is a depressing place not a depressive place. All that said, it is irritating - not irritative 😂 - to hear an American describe places in the UK he has never even visited.
@davidmichael90343 ай бұрын
@@chrisikaris5891 Points taken, but I would say depressive is hardly ever used, it is not a rem used even by the medical community. Anyway, to use it to describe towns is clearly wrong and ignorant. Yes, it is irritating! And I suppose irritative is a word but a word noone uses.

As a Bradfordian, I'd say it's a mixed bag. City center has everything from gorgeous gothic architecture, a modern shopping centre to oppressive concrete monstrosities and allys full of crack heads. Then the surrounding towns can go either way. Some are dumps, some are nice, and some are a bit of both. And you're rarely very far away from a lovely walk.
