You're a damn genius Dominic. Making whisker poles and sailing random boats while filming it all is very impressive. Thanks.

haha any boy scout should be able to make a whisker pole like this one!

How do you learn how to do this?
@dominictarrsailing Жыл бұрын
I took the royal port nicholson learn to sail course (wellington, in 2004. This course still is still operating and covers the essentials (except anchoring!)) then I brought a small boat and started sailing. I also read a lot of sailing books. Back then, there was nearly no sailing info on the internet. I think youtube is great to learn about boat building/repairs but books are better for sailing like this, because it's about how to handle when something goes wrong. That's really hard to film but easy to describe in a book! My one rule is that the next trip can't be more than double the length of the previous biggest trip. So, yeah, so I slowly built up from crossing the harbour to crossing the tasman.

It doesn't necessarily need to take 20 years but more importantly it doesn't matter. The adventure is _inversely_ proportional to the boat and your experience.
