i think some people don't like heartstopper because it was "childish" or "cringe" but i have waited so long for queer representation that isn't sexualization or toxic. it is such a positive display of queer relationships. i truly love this show so much.
@barbiebaby1881

I feel a lot of people didn’t like the show because it was another show where white men were the stars. Gay representation from gay couples in the media (shows & film) are 90% of the time white men, or have at least one white person in the couple, which is tiring for queer POC. Yes, this show had POC as the co-stars, but it still had two white men as the stars which is what majority of gay representation in the media is. How many poc gay couples can u name in a popular show/movie ? Not a lot at all and it’s because whiteness and white men have become the standard in gay representation. It’s very aggravating to many when people say this show was good “gay representation”, when it wasn’t. It was good WHITE gay representation because gay representation (in the sense of gay couples) is mostly white. Also, SORRY IF I SOUNDED MEAN OR RUDE! That was not my intent, just explaining another side of why some people didn’t like or watch heartstopper 🙂
@signalohnine

@@barbiebaby1881 i completely agree! there are rarely any POC queer main couples in shows or movies, and if there is, those shows are always cancelled. i think i meant more LGBT+ rep, rather than just queer. elle is a good example of a trans black story that isn’t about her being black and trans. it mentions it but that isn’t her entire story. there needs to be more POC queer stories as main characters.

The most important thing this show brings to the table is a positive outlook on the queer experience. Instead of focusing on trauma, it's about falling in love and the show emphasizes how beautiful that can be. It also doesn't oversexualize literal kids, which many shows are guilty of today often having adults who look like gods playing teenagers. It's so beautiful and family friendly and it's just an important positive show that makes people happy, and IT MAKES ME HAPPY.

Honestly, it's got just the right amount of drama. Not everyone's life is full of emotional traumas and even so there is a lot of happiness in queer lives that doesn't get shown enough. It was literally apart of cinema code that queer coded characters have to be evil or end up dead so that viewers can see them "be punished for their crimes of homosexuality". It's so nice this show doesn't follow the stereotypes and tropes of gays in media. It's just sweet ❤

It’s funny to me when people say the show is unrealistic because there’s no queer trauma… because that’s objectively not true. All of our characters deal with trauma throughout this season (particularly Charlie). What makes this show special is not that it’s trauma-free, it’s because the story is not viewed through a depressing, traumatic lens. The tone of the show is positive, and hopeful. It focuses on queer joy and community and love.

euphoria and heartstopper bothhave very differetn vibes, but both are realistic in their own way. hearstopper shows a cute highschool love story where they both have to overcome stigma and homophobia. Euphoria shows the consequences of drug exposure in high school which is also a problem that countless teens face. Euphoria also shows how teen girls might oversexualize themselves for the pleasure of men, not so the showmakers can make a statements about how all teen girls oversexualize themselves for fun. both shows have their strengths, but i wouldn't really call heartstopper the anti-euphoria, as both deal with real problems that teenagers face

Here are something’s about this characters that you need to know: 1. Charlie got outed last year and he was picked on by the whole school but mostly by the rugby team and he only had Isaac, Tao, and Elle there for him so that’s why Tao is so protective of Charlie around Nick because he thinks Nick is just using him and making fun of him behind his back. 2. Tao is straight and Elle is a trans woman and it is very important to his character that he is straight because it shows that trans woman are real women 3. Charlie has an eating disorder so that’s why anytime he has food around him he’s just messing with it 4. Isaac is a new character and so is Imogen so no one knows what is going to happen with those two 5. Those circles with numbers on them are represented by how much his friends care about him so that’s why Harry’s is so small and Charlie’s is so big And that’s all I can think of right now

And they did love it! For about a month or so but then it was like it got "too popular" or something decided that the show was cringy now and they kinda started make fun of it which really makes me sad because it's such a good show and book series that doesn't focus on the trauma or over sexualizing the characters.

Fun fact the guy they had doing the bisexual KZbin advice videos ACTUALLY makes KZbin advice videos. His name is Courtney-Jai and he operates a KZbin channel which is aimed at giving a safe space for people in the LGBTQIA+ communities to discuss topics they feel they need advice on such as coming out, figuring out identities, and figuring out sexualities (separate videos for each, since identities and sexualities are only segments of peoples lives etc etc). I thoroughly recommend them to everyone, even if they're not in the community, as resources like the one Courtney-Jai provides are at their best when lots of people have safe widespread access to them.

Ok, I'm here to defend my man Tao!! First off, he's a Libra lol, second, Charlie was (and still is) heavily bullied after being outed, which led to many mental health issues (I supposed these are getting more relevant in the following seasons) and Tao was there for him all along. This year Charlie was finally better and being himself, so when Nick appears (being friends with the exact people that bully Charlie), Tao becomes overprotective so Charlie doesn't suffer and goes back to his unhealthy behaviors (we can see them in the series: not eating, isolating, blaming himself, etc.). That plus Tao's fear of being left alone (a fear that everyone has at 14-15 I think) explains his behavior during the season. He's just a good friend :c On another note, season 2 starts filming this monthAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved your videos!!! Ashley, my love, I have an underrated request from the gays. Motherland: Fort Salem - It has lesbians - It has witches - It has women in the dominant positions of their society (innuendo unintended) without it being all "man hatey" - It has an incredibly interesting and original plot, magic system, and other concepts - Strong female characters (obviously) - Found family and female friendships that fate: Winx saga wishes it was - And no, it isn't Military propaganda either (at least it doesn't read that way to me) It's like a history rewrite of if the witches of the Salem trials made a deal to save their lives in exchange for their military service. I'm not doing it ANY service but I love it SO much. And even if Ashley isn't interested I hope this has piqued anyone else's interest. Edit: Epic Trailer kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHbXe6iogLKdgLs I don't know if it entirely fits your preferred video material, but I'd really like to see your reaction to it.

My parents didn’t take it well when I came out, I told my mom first and she outed me to my dad and I didn’t find out until a year after, in which he constantly made homophobic comments. So I especially scared to come out to my grandparents, who grew up super religious. One day I just wanted to tell them, so from another room I yelled “Grandma I’m gay”, and when she left my mom told me that she talked to her about it. She said “So Hannah’s gay?” in which my mom replied yes, and then my Grandma said “Well I could’ve told you that”. It honestly was so amazing and they even talked to my sister and made sure that my dad wasn’t doing ANYTHING to hurt me in anyway. I couldn’t be more grateful for my grandparents.

What you said at the end is SO true. Yes, the show deals with universal experiences that teenagers of any sexuality and gender can experience, but the fact that the show is an uplifting love story about two gay teens is what makes it so special. I’m in my late twenties, and I cried so many times while watching it - I think partially because it was cathartic to have the season stay mostly positive and end happily. But it was bittersweet, because I feel like I was also grieving the years of confusion and angst that I went through as a closeted teen, knowing that if I’d had shows like this, things might have been different for me. Anyway, this show and others like it are more important than people realise, and I’m glad you had fun watching it. ♥️♥️

5:35 well, it's not about that, Nick is friends with the biggest bullies who are also homophobic and bullied Charlie and Tao for ages. Nick NEVER stood up for them, until he became very close with Charlie, he let them and propbobly a lot of other people be bullied for years and ignored it until he personally cared about Charlie. There's literally a flashback Nick gets while scrolling through Charlies Instagram that proves that he was there, didn't say a word and remembers that. Tao stood up to the bullies again and protected Charlie but when Nick told them not to bully people (literally for the first time, bare minimum) Charlie was mad at Tao for standing up and said he's dragging Nick into it. I would personally be hurt by that and Tao is completely in the right for saying "Not your poor popular friend being dragged into it for once" while Tao was dragged into it for years by the bullies not by his own choice and Nick was just watching them be hurt. Don't get me wrong, I love Nick and I love his growth but I don't understand why people don't see how flawed his character was for half of the series. As a person who was bullied my entire life at school it stays with you for years and I still have cptsd and am working on it on therapy at 24yo. And I stood up for others while I was probably the most bullied person at school and he was the popular and well liked by everyone. If you don't react to bullying, you're a part of the problem, sorry.

Olivia Coleman has always reminded me so much of my mum, like her mannerisms and everything, so the Nick-coming-out-to-his-mum scene means everything to me. It’s exactly how I could imagine my mum reacting if my coming-out had gone differently. Unfortunately (like Charlie) I was outed in Year 10 and it didn’t go how I would have liked, and now we just never talk about it. But Olivia Coleman is my favourite actress and I’ll always love her for giving me this scene which I can live through vicariously. This show is so authentic to the young gay British experience

I experienced this post-watch depression too. I think because Heartstopper is such a dream experience for so many of us, it hurts to reenter our homophobic, isolated world where we didn't get to have an adolescence like everyone else (as we deserved). We wish to live and relive that experience over and over and over again, but it never comes true. Its not only okay to feel this way, it would be wrong if we didn't! We are scarred and traumatized. We struggle to find spontaneous romantic connection even in adulthood. And our lack of experience and trauma can hurt our chances of utilizing the opportunities we do get at love. So I fully understand. I hope you are able to find that connection like we deserve.
@tookitogo
@tookitogo Жыл бұрын
@@jackgerig8910Well said. I also have my pet theory that one reason why so many gay men in their 20s act like immature teens - at least as far as dating and relationships go - is that a) most of us didn’t get to experience those things as teenagers, so in essence our emotional adolescence _is_ happening in our 20s, and b) we never had any models of healthy gay relationships. I think that’s why Heartstopper and Schitt’s Creek are so important: they show us non-tragic depictions of LGBT relationships. I’m delighted that today’s kids get to have that while they grow up and discover themselves, but also a bit jealous, as a middle-aged gay who didn’t have anything of the kind.
