US Army Honors Service - Taps and Flag Presentation

She replied: "Thank you. And thank you for your service"

Furey/Dad/Pop Pop was a WWII Vet. 146th Quartermaster Truck Co.
He received 5 Bronze Campaign (Battle) Stars:
* Normandy Campaign
* Northern France Campaign
* Rhineland Campaign
* Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) Campaign
* Central Europe Campaign
He worked in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard prior to enlistment.
In 1943, at age 20, joined the Army, trained at Camp/Ft Lee in VA, then sent to No Africa.
1944: to England for Overlord preparations/maneuvers. He was among those who transported the dead following Exercise Tiger at Slapton Sands, Southern England.
Then came D-Day/Normandy. On through France (yes, he drove The Red Ball Express route, too).
Dec - Jan 44/45, The Bulge. Belgium/Luxembourg. Then onward, into Germany. Final destination: Berlin-Tempelhof, where he stayed until Nov 1945 when he was finally able to go home. He spent the next four years in the Army Reserve, as a Sergeant (he was a Tech 5 during the War).
Following his separation from the US Army, he spent three decades working (as a civilian) at the Naval Air Warfare Center Warminster PA - Naval Air Development Center Johnsville PA

My dad also served in WWII. I feel that I have a responsibility to extend my condolences to the family of those who were of the: "Greatest Generation" , whenever I see their loss on the internet. (Dad was 8th Army Air Corps in England . P 51 fighter pilot .) Those words from the flag presentation @ my dad's grave.

I’m in the Air Force honor guard and it’s nice seeing how the other branches execute this ceremony. I will say for AF Honor Guard we aren’t to turn our back to the flag after handing it off to the NCOIC/OIC. That’s seen as disrespect. That’s the only thing I saw that may have earned a dislike from someone. Thank you to all those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. You may be gone, but you’ll never be forgotten. Your legacy will forever live on.
