"US Has Betrayed Its Principles..." Russia Attacks US, Israel Calls ICC Anti-Semitic At UNSC | Gaza

On Monday, May 20, the U.N. Security Council convened to discuss the ongoing Middle East crisis, focusing particularly on the Palestinian issue. During the session, the International Criminal Court's prosecutor announced that he had requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defense chief, and three Hamas leaders, accusing them of war crimes.
U.N. officials highlighted a critical humanitarian situation in Gaza. Senior U.N. aid official Edem Wosornu reported severe shortages of supplies and fuel, with aid shipments stuck at the Rafah crossing in Egypt and minimal deliveries through Israel's Kerem Shalom crossing due to ongoing hostilities and logistical challenges. Wosornu described the conditions in Gaza as catastrophic and beyond description.
Israel's U.N. Ambassador, Gilad Erdan, condemned the ICC's actions, labeling them as absurd and morally bankrupt. Conversely, Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour called for an immediate end to what he described as genocide, asserting that Gaza's suffering would haunt global conscience long after the violence ceases.
In a separate but equally contentious matter, the Security Council voted on a Russian-drafted resolution aimed at banning all weapons in outer space. The draft resolution failed to pass, receiving only seven votes in favor, seven against, and one abstention, falling short of the required nine votes. The resolution followed Russia's veto of a U.S.-drafted resolution on preventing an arms race in outer space, leading to accusations and counter-accusations between the two nations regarding the development and deployment of potential space weapons.
