I saw the SR71 and touched it. there are Four of them in Dayton Ohio Air Force Museum. Even today it is still the fastest plane ever. It was retired because of budget cuts. it needs only modern avionics upgrades. There was no need to retire it. The ST72 will be faster than the SR71 if they ever actually build it.

No way, to fly in an atmosphere to where you can burn fuel, that much atmosphere would create too much heat on the aircraft to fly mach 6. Realistically mach 4 would be the fastest, at extreme.

Let's pretend. The government releases Darkstar. Does anyone remember the 80s when they released the stealth bomber, I think it was the F17a if I remember right. Well the prototype for that flew in the fifties. Messerschmitt had been working on a flying wing and we took the prototype from Germany at the end of the war and perfected it. Point is that the aircraft was 30 years old when our government says HEY ,LOOK WHAT WE BUILT ! You really think anything has changed ? Our government isn't concerned with airplanes anymore. The next war will be for control of space. Two hundred years ago if you controlled the ovens you controlled the world. Now it's space. A weapon in space can be on target almost immediately.

Beyond what this article describes here there already is another hypersonic spy plane that's be flying for some time. the SR-91 from Lockheed Martin. A combined cycle turbojet, ramjet, scramjet, rocket propels this incredible machine to a ceiling of 130,000 feet and is capable of speed in excess of Mach 10 if not even greater, This machine has already been tracked from satellites flying eastbound from Nellis AFM/Area 51 exceeding Mach 8 and that was years ago.
