Great great video. As I first saw the short video from you, I thought: uff that's gonna be the new smolensk... But it seems they don't wanna built a ship that overcomes the smolensk by any mean. Anyway. What would a special commander do, with rapidreload skill?

Austin gets DFAA4 and RR4. Usually we see these new skills implemented on new lines. Examples: Spotter plane first introduced on Black Yamato - is now used by Italian BB T8 to T10. Speed Boost 4 first introduced on Bourgogne - is now used by Kleber. Maybe the Pan-Asian CLs will get it? The T10 is basically a Taiwanese Austin.

Just wait until you see the Jinan the Pan-Asian cruiser. On PC its an Austin with 10 Yueyang torps on each side. Torp reload booster, and proper smoke. Call me crazy but THAT is the ship I would want over the Austin. Plus on PC the Forrest Sherman is an American dd that has 3 austin guns, that reload faster than friesland, 2 torps with garbage angles, long smoke screen, and AA that functions. If anything just skip Austin, wait for Jinan and Forrest Sherman since they are just better versions if implemented the same here as on PC

Forrest Sherman in return gets two torpedoes. But it's a gunboat so I agree with you on waiting for those ships to arrive in Blitz.

Ships that are excellent in pc do not automatically perform as well as in wowsb. Both are completely 2 very different games. Absence of armor profile, less enemies, smaller maps' size, longer reload time, absence of special mechanics eg. no rocket planes for wowsb manfred, much lower fire and flooding chance, the list goes on... If one based ships grind and purchase decisions in wowsb on how they usually perform in wows pc, 95% one is bound to be disappointed for sure.

i remember when this was introduced into the PC game,everyone thought it was gonna be another smolensk but a little worse because of the reload booster it gets,theyre a little different on PC but really,after they first came out you dont never see any,way every now and then somebody will have one but they are easily deal with,absolutely no armor but unlike the Smolensk,the Austin eats citadels because you know,RUSSIA!! But i suppose it could be a lot of fun to play but not worth the price,great video :) oh,and a quick question,for anyone,can you de-plane a cv? I'm guessing not,i was watching the intro when the Austin was slaughtering the planes that were getting too close,the AA is nasty on this ship for real

Unlike on PC, you can absolutely de-plane a CV here, they have a limited number of air groups. It's sad how an arcadey mobile game can be more realistic than the semi-sim on PC. That said, you're going to struggle doing it with one ship. Austin has good AA, but is way too squishy. Worcester or DM can take more punishment, and I actually go plane chasing in those.

We seem to be getting more of them, the upcoming PA cruiser line looks like it's mostly composed of scout cruisers. I have actually considered playing this thing as a stealth torp boat, might test that.

Terry got the Tulsa in the crate, couldn't find a review for it by you. Do you have one out there? If not, have you tried it (if you have) do you have any thoughts?

I don't think I've tested Tulsa - it can be hard to keep up with the deluge of premiums sometimes, sorry :) Quick look at the stats, looks actually like a pretty capable cruiser. Only 6 main guns, but you get proper smokes - T9 can be a bit rough, but I think that's a ship I need to test. Wasn't quite sure what she was capable of when I met her in the Austin game, I remembered smoke, but not the RR.

@@FunandGameswithTerry Yes she has her Baltimore type moments with the range, smoke and radar as a plus, figured i would use her to upgrade my captain once i am done grinding t9 which has been rough given the BB camping and low number of cruisers per game.

I've tested double steering as well, and it's a valid setup. Mino has the advantage of having actual smoke, and the torpedo stopping power to make any BB reconsider getting too close.

I wouldn't say the United States, "Pretended" WW2 wasn't happening. You have to remember we aren't descendants of kings, queens, lords, or ladies. We didn't wind up In the America's because we were super wanted in Europe. We also did in fact fight a war to get out from under the British Crowns boot. So you'll have to forgive us for not rushing to fight the kings war right away.

WG botched design. IMO 2 real smokes and AP could make this boat useful. Good even in the right role. It might be somewhat playable in the hands of the unicum cruiser players as is. However, because of it's limitations, they will just play another ship.

They ported the design over from PC, but especially extremely vulnerable ships have a hard time on Blitz, where battles tend to be more open, and you have very little in terms of defence. I'm sort of ok with the SAP, 127mm AP isn't going to do anything, either, but the emergency smoke is all but useless for a cruiser. Smolensk smoke would have been better. I love playing cruisers, but given the choice, I'd probably play something else. Worcester, DM, Nevsky, good free alternatives. You can't really torpedo boat, either, since they're side-mounted. The gunboat style works for DDs since they don't have citadels, and the floaty US shells means she needs to fight DDs at point blank to be effective.

It’s the squishy-ness of being a really fat, slow, DD that is the downfall of the Austin. There is absolutely no margin for error if you are in range of a BB or CA. So really it’s just another CL. But at a tier in which you can be deleted instead of just getting bitch slapped.

A Smolensk without smoke, shorter range, fewer guns and lower fire chance. The exhaust smoke is effectively useless on a cruiser.

Austin kinda sucks. It's not the best American cruiser when it comes against other cruisers or BBs. She's only good at killing DDs. I have easily sunk Austin when I was playing in Des Moines, Worcester, & Minotaur.

@@FunandGameswithTerry When I fought against a full health Austin on Des Moines, I lost less than 25% of my hp. Des Moines' RR2 is way better than Austin's RR4.

DM has the advantage of powerful AP as well. Even Worcester can hurt with AP. Austin does maybe 130 damage with HE semi-pens, and needs to rely on fires. For something this squishy, she doesn't have the dps.

The psychological mechanic in play is "sunk cost fallacy". You see that you're "almost there", and have already spent a large amount, which would more or less go to waste (the ship being the ultimate goal) if you don't spend more money within the limited time window. It helps being aware of these pressure mechanisms before starting, and I can only recommend setting yourself a clear limit if you want to gamble. For example, if there's a crate that has something that really interests me, and I decide to give it a shot, I decide _before_ I start to e.g. "open only a single crate. If it's not a win, I stop". Setting your mind up like that can counter the psychological effects of those things quite effectively.
