That's a little crazy about the fret ends, I recently got a USA signature and it was setup almost perfectly... I added a tad of relief to 8 tho. Mine was also a demo from a smaller shop and they checked everything for me. I believe that model is around $4K, that's crazy to have sharp frets and for the intonation to be that out! Great work though getting everything setup though!

it didnt leave the factory with sharp fret end ..it must have been in a dry place for a while ...if you put it in a humid area for 3 days , ..no more sharp frets ...shaving fret ends are not needed

I can't believe a USA built Wolfgang would come with sharp edges / fret sprout? I also can't imagine spending all that money and it needing a bow in the neck when it should have come from the factory like that. My MIM's, MIJ and MIC Have never needed a direct setup like that. Wow.

I have a left-handed USA built Wolfgang and it too has sharp edges. Other than that, an awesome guitar. I wish you change pickups easily vs. having to mod the pickup. Only other issue is good luck tuning the D-Tuna on a left-handed guitar. Braniac engineers never thought of that (or brainiac execs decided to just make one version). Issue is that the allen screw ends up being on the bottom vs. the top, so it's almost a 2 person job because you can turn the screw on the bottom since it is up against the A string trem screw and try to tune at the same time. Simply ridiculous...

Excellent job as always! What a beautiful guitar! (That’s my dream guitar.). I was glad you didn’t reverse the toggle switch. “The reason for reversing the pickup selector switching is because when I play with my right hand on the fingerboard, I tend to bump the switch (it gets in my way).” Ed’s exact words from the official EVH website. Hope all is well my friend. 🔥🤘👍

Hey buddy! I guess that makes sense! Never heard that from a Les Paul player, but then again although Ed did use them occasionally.

@@stringmanguitars4329 I totally agree. I think because he was “tapping” so much on her fretboard, he would bump it. As always, AMAZING job!!!

I switched mine around today (I own a EVH 5150 hockey-style head; slime guitar/Mexico) My switch came like the Gibsons do...with the bridge/treble/solo pickup selector down closest to the fretboard while on?! My other EVH guitars were the way Ed mentioned in his interview...pickup all the way up for solo. So, I simple unscrewed the back plate, enough wire in there, to fully pull out the selector and turn it around the EVH way...now the selector switch doesn't get in my way when right hand in fretboarding on solos 🤙

I've never seen a guitar that was perfect from the factory. Even various custom shops. Some people don't care how well a guitar plays. They're just happy to have one. Most people are unaware just how good any guitar CAN be.

One would say i save 4k plus to buy a USA made axe to find out it needs a fret level and have a fret edge sprouts. I have a Mexican Wolfgang and its perfect from the factory at the quarter of the price of a USA one.

I ordered a 5150 Red Striped a few months back, and it came not setup at all. The action was high, and the Floyd Rose saddles were straight as an arrow, not staggered and not intonated. I was shocked, and thought it must have slipped past quality control. I sent it back and ordered a different model. The white striped with the Floyd Rose. Result: same damn thing. I don't know what hell they are doing in the factory, but it's simply not acceptable, and bad business practice. Eddie would be severely pissed because they are slaughtering his brands reputation. Incidentally, I kept the white one, floated the bridge (it came come decked because they claim that Eddie played them that way?), and setup and intonated it myself. It turned out to be a great instrument, but when you spend that kind of money, it should come fully setup, and ready to go..... 🎸 🎶

@@CNK_WGDJ5150 There's a video on KZbin featuring his guitar tech. He actually goes through every step, from start to finish, and yes he floats the bridge. I'm sure that Eddie did both. I personally could care less about your opinion because I wanted mine to float.

@@redcloudshaman2509you're "sure," but you're wrong. By the way, the phrase you've so condescendingly used should be, "I couldn't care less." To state that you "could" care less states that the subject bears some importance to you.

Just wondering: does the compound radius change to a fixed radius if you file/level the frets?
@stringmanguitars4329 Жыл бұрын
No if you use the sanding beam, it'll follow the radius.

A guitar of that price shouldn’t need any of that work. This is why the MIJ versions are better.

What can someone expect to pay for a guitar setup like the one in the video? I have a beautiful guitar with a floyd rose that is just not setup well. A few of the frets are high or low and when attempting to get lower action, I get fret buzz. Clearly not well made but is it salvageable? Thank you for the insight!
@stringmanguitars43294 ай бұрын
Depends in the shop. Typically base price before I touch a Floyd Rose guitar is $75. This one has stainless steel frets which really wreck files which are expensive so that’s at least $50. In my own shop. I’m not a music store paying a tech to do piece work like a store with initials of….. let’s say G and C? They charge maybe $225 for this job and the tech gets Maybe half? Then he’s got an hour to do it. I work at my pace. So to sum it up. It depends on where you go.
