Aside from the radiator needing to go to a shop, that 6v92 most definitely needs a thorough flushing of the cooling system. All that water instead of a glycol-based coolant, in cast-iron coolant passages is not good....not to mention a lack of coolant additives to prevent liner cavitation(Series 92 engines are wet liners, as opposed to the dry-fit liners of the Series 71)....wouldn't surprise me one bit if that radiator core needs replaced outright. Being an '82 model, that engine should be a Silver series. Yes, it's painted red, but that was near the end of IH painting ALL engines installed in their tractors Harvester Red, regardless of manufacturer. Might check the gear ratios of whatever 9670/9600 you were going to do the air ride cutoff from, taller gears will certainly make it more livable...
@bowslap4 жыл бұрын
To add, I know this had water in it before you bought it, so this isn't your fault....not flaming you, just making an observation about the truck in general. Yes, it definitely needs work....but from what I can see, it's nowhere NEAR as rough as the one you first purchased.
@oldmanmosh60564 жыл бұрын

@@truckingdrummer Unless something significant has happened since I took my CDL, all retreads, regrooves, (etc., whatever you want to call them) are against the law in all 50 states on the steers. That is one thing we were always required to look at on our pretrip inspections. The companies I worked for never used retreads, and with the auto adjusting slack adjusters, and 20+ mechanics on duty, we didn't deal with brakes. But we did look for obvious flaws that would be spotted by DOT in an instant. I had several front windscreens replaced on the spot because of big of cracks, and one vehicle I had to turn back in because the engine was having issues we couldn't fix early in the morning without a part shop open. The long and the short of it is that retreads are illegal on steer wheels. They will come apart and have the potential to cause major injury to other vehicles.

Pull in the damn scale house with it.. All you idiots who think you know the law.. Take it thru the scales in Alabama Georgia or Florida.. I will bet you that damn truck wont be drove out if inspected.. No CDL No license or insurance? That alone it WILL be parked and have to be towed away . THEN if they want to do a level 3 on it his ass will pay more in fines than the damn trucks worth.. Lets see how big you idiots balls are!! Go buy a rolling crapper like that drive across state lines pull in the scales.. With no license. Lets see how big a balls you got then and how that works out for you .. Keyboard Einsteins.. Bruce, get in touch with touch with Scott over at his channel, Bus Grease Monkey. That dude is the two stroke guru, all he does is work on two-stroke Detroit diesels and nothing more plus he travels to you. He lives in Tennessee I believe. He travels to jobs in a 1940s Detroit powered ex Greyhound bus he converted to a motorhome. He brings his own tools also.

One thing with those 6V92's, (and all that series of Detroit's,) they DO NOT take kindly to overheating. They didn't have the best design head gaskets, and it didn't take much to push them over the edge!

I don't understand why this is different from the white international bc something as old as that should be rebuilt in the motor trans and rears just like that one 🤷🏻♂️

Since she's a USAF truck, just call her 'Wingnut'. That's what the other branches used to call us when I was in the USAF.
@davide.burden20434 жыл бұрын
That is true, I was Marine Corps and I'm sure I said it a few times myself. Of course we had nicknames for every branch of the service. Which I will not be listing here. A lot of other service members called us Jar Heads, teased us about eating crayons, and worse, but you learn to take it all as good fun & rivalry between the different branches. Either that or you are going to get in a lot of fights if you go to town when you get liberty.

I’ll be very interested to see how this one turns out once they start looking at a few of these issues and hopefully it’s not all show and no go like the other one he’s put to the side, did anyone see the video of his friend painting the trailer? Goes to the trouble of getting it sandblasted, Then just a couple of coats of top colour with no undercoat, surely if you go to that much trouble with sandblasting, you do a half decent job on the paint, trying not to troll here, but I don’t get how his mind works at times.
