couple things to remember. when you measure a truck wheel base, its front axle center to between the rear duals center. not axle to axle. another thing was that everytime you want to stretch a truck frame. its better you stretch from the back and not mid frame. i saw your concerns and i agree how you want to to do it.. dont take my recommendations as being a smart ass. i learned the hard way. if i can help with any problems you might have. i will try to help.i love it build more.

Whats with all the hate on here guys? He is learning as he goes and has caused a few comedy moments that make for fun viewing, he knows what he has to do with regard to the "Z" cut on the frame, so long as that is done right he wont have any issues with it, he measured the wheel base so if he can find another truck in the scrap yard thats already been stretched he should be able to find a drive shaft for it. Then its a case of extending all the airlines and electrics, its really not that hard, also he mentioned he will need another cross member and carrier so he is thinking it through. I started out something like this on cars, a young lad totally clueless but had a go and learnt from my mistakes and now pretty damned competent and most of what I tackle. Keep going Bruce my only real advice would be to think about things a little more before you start, try to predict any problems you may come across and have a sollution ready. Have to admit the white international kind of looks comedy but also cool as a Shorty lol

The non smart ass answer is, when these older trucks where manufactured there was an overall length limit by DOT. Remember when trailers could only be 54 feet and single width sleepers were king. This was all an effort to keep the truck short enough and maximize load. Now that the length and GVW limits were increased a few years ago, truck length were increased to improve ride quality and sleeper size, plus trailers are longer. A piece of history. The first Kenworth with a double sleeper was the truck built for the TV series Movin' On in 1972.

@samuelgoddard52484 жыл бұрын
if the white cab is sold or for sale surely lift it off thus not damaging something that's going to make you money and removing all the risk of hurting or killing each over when cutting the frame. like the fact your having a go but don't dangerously rush in to these things just to give your subscribers content to watch every day.

I may be missing something here (from the UK) but what’s the point of stretching a tractor unit? 🤔
@DazC24 жыл бұрын
Apparently they ride better however in Europe our trucks are very well engineered for refinement and drive very smooth anyway so the only benefit is negated. Some people here stretch a tractor to make them a rigid for certain tasks (heavy recovery for example) but I have known owner operators to stretch them just to have the bigger engine and brakes etc as they drive nicer than the equivalent 18 or 26 tonner with having a much more powerful engine
@DazC24 жыл бұрын
Plus here you would struggle with the lack of manoeuvrability once it’s stretched due to our tighter, smaller and older infrastructure.
@martinhaskell3764 жыл бұрын
There were a few units stretched when they started introducing the Euro spec 13.6m trailers, but from what I’ve seen the American cabovers do seem to be considered as back breakers so what you’re saying makes perfect sense. Give me a Scania any day...
@DazC24 жыл бұрын
Like you say, I suspect the US tractors weren’t as refined as our European counterparts which is why they seem to like a longer truck. I think they look disproportionate when stretched to be fair. I preferred these 2 trucks at their original length.

@sc_archery864 жыл бұрын
Hey man... I would recommend a plate bent to set inside the frame bolted and then welding the outside frame. That's how we do it here when we stretch trucks. Straight cuts no Z cuts. Flux core welded so it'll be stronger uphill.

Keep the sliding fifth wheel off the stubby international for the Freightliner. Bruce this is gonna be a sick long truck when it’s finished.
