Love The Beat, but this is singularly the most amazing, emotionally impacting version of any song ever recorded. Strangely this is the only song I could loop all day long. It is singularly evocative. It makes me unabashedly weep like no other I can speak to in the almost 60 years I have been planted on planet A.

In my humble opinion Pete Townsend is one of the best musicians, composers, song writers of all time. His bio WHO I AM was both fascinating and captivating. His acoustic guitar work is incredible especially when combined with his electric guitar and the band. Great cover of an awesome song too❤

Give Pete his flowers for this one. He took a song he didn’t write and made it utterly his own. As great as the original is (and it’s one of my favorites), Pete beats it with an acoustic guitar, bass, and piano. Makes it feel it even more resolute and desperate at once. A lesson in personalization

He has been magnificent since I first heard him in the mid to late sixties. Students of music will always know him unless insufferable academic classicists snuff out study of him. My professor of music appreciation in the early 70's thought rock an abomination. He was an educated fool. And a snob.

@tpp5151 If someone had said to me, “You know that song ‘Save It For Later?’ Don’t you think that it was practically custom-made for Pete Townshend? I mean, you’re a big fan of _All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes_ and _White City._ Can’t you totally imagine Pete singing this?” I would _have_ to have replied with a resounding “YES!” The story in Wikipedia about Pete calling up the songwriter (English Beat guitarist Dave Wakeling, who assumed he was being pranked) and, saying “I’m sitting with David Gilmour, and we're trying to work out [how to play the chords]” is classic!

Lately I have been tuned into Entwhistle's unbelievable mastery, but your comment grabbed my attention because it is so true! You ain't kidding, brother! Townshend is a deft hand at guitar. His technique is lively and clean-sounding but never methodic or robotic. He plays relaxed and loose, like he was born to play! The absolute best good habit to establish early on if you want to enjoy a long profitable career touring.

Townshend knew a good song when he heard one. He still does. I like the fact that he is not mired in the past. Jack, good memories. The first time I seen them was bell vue, Manchester . They had just released quadrophenia, 73. Greatest show I've ever witnessed by 4 people, no lasers, video tape, multi cam shots or backing tracks. That night I bought the l.p. in the foyer. Spent my return train fare on it. Had to walk back to Southport, about 40 miles. The two friends with me wernt too pleased with my irrational purchase. All night they wernt too pleased with my irrational purchase. It was about 3pm the next day I had it on the turntable, that night I knew every word off every song, every clap of thunder, every seagull every, wave on the beach every train. In 2013 they toured with it again, the 40 th anniversary. It was in the echo arena, Liverpool. That night I witnessed the greatest show I've ever seen by 2 live men & 2 dead men. The footage wes fantastic with lots of unseen film of the Ox & Keith. I've managed well enough in the intervening to afford a taxi home these days but I would have paid the price of walking there & back to see that show again. Thank you Pete & Roger for the journey

[Lyrics] Two dozen other dirty lovers Must be a sucker for it Cry cry but I don’t need my Mother Just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it Sooner or later Your legs give way, you hit the ground Save it for later Don’t run away and let me down Sooner or later You hit the deck, you get found out Save it for later Don’t run away and let me down You’ve lettin’ me down You run away, run away Lettin’ me down, run away Black air and seven seas are rotten through But what can you do? I don’t know how I’m meant to act with all of you lot Sometimes I don’t try I just n-n-n-n-n-now-n-now Now-now-now-now-now-now-n-now Sooner or later Your legs give way, you hit the ground Save it for later Don’t run away and let me down Sooner or later You hit the deck, you get found out Save it for later Don’t run away and let me down You’ve lettin’ me down Run away, run away Lettin’ me down (Instrumental section) Why don’t you hold me? Why don’t you hold me and kiss me now Why don’t you just hold me? Why don’t you hold me and kiss me now Two dozen other stupid reasons Why we should suffer all this Don’t bother trying to explain them Just hold my hand while I come, to a decision on this Sooner or later Your legs give way, you hit the ground Save it for later Don’t run away and let me down Sooner or later You hit the deck, you get found out Save it for later Don’t run away, don’t let me down You let me down Oh, run away, run away, run away, and run away, lettin’ me down Run away, and run away, lettin’ me down Save it for later! Mmhm, save it for later! Save it for later honey Save all that stuff for later! Hold me! Why don’t you hold me and kiss me now I want you to hold me! Why don’t you hold me and kiss me honey Save it for later! Oooh! Mmhm Don’t run away, and run away Run away, run away, run away, run away, lettin’ me down Run away, run away, run away, run away, and lettin’ me down Run away, run away, and lettin’ me down (x4)

Brilliant cover. Pete just OWNS it! The Who were in town last night and I missed seeing them for the 14th time because I was passing a sodden kidney stone. Bloody hell! I name them. This one was named in his honour.
