Man I just wanted to say, you are a fountain of wisdom! I am slowly (after 16+ years of editing in Premiere Pro) weaning myself off the Adobe ecosystem and transitioning into the Resolve world. Your videos are super helpful. Thank you!

Man, your channel has all of the random "how do I.." scenarios covered, and it's always direct to the point. I'm glad you didn't waste our time with the whole "10 minutes minimum for algo!" format that yt was pushing at the time this video was released. Sometimes these short direct videos are all we need.

Thank you for this. I switched to Resolve recently and have been trying to get an answer about scaling 4/6K footage in 1080p timelines. Have looked at so many forums which descend into arguments immediately with no clear answer and here it is, straightforward and succinct! I'm going to point all of those forums posts to your channel now!

Over the years its been fun watching your studio and style change and develop. And after watching your episodes, many, many times, as my own experience and knowledge caught up I learned new snippets of information. With each project I created, for my own amusement and channel, which rocks literally ten's of Subs, I always learn and take away something new. If it wasn't for you sir, and Mr Alex Tech, I'd have gone crazy years ago failing at every corner trying to tame the beast that is DaVinci resolve.

I wish there was a way (and maybe there is) to know what percentage zoom in/out the clip is at when I bring it in and it is resized to fit automatically. That way I know when I zoom in, I am not going beyond 100% of the original footage. Anyone know if that information is somewhere numerically?

Old video still helpful. Been using DR for a little while, but my camera did terrible 4k. So fast forward to today, editing my first job with my own 4k footage. So this video was helpful in the way that I get how it handles it, BUT boy is it annoying to me that 'zoom' numbers in the inspector panels stay at 1. If I plop in the 4k footage and it scales it to fit the HD timeline why not adjust it to say 0.5. Really seems logical to me and silly that it doesn't. To be honest I wouldn't have had to look up videos like this, if the number had adjusted to the scale it set. I would have looked at it, ok cool it scaled and kept cutting.. not "omg did it just scale or auto reduce the resolution? Can I zoom or crop without losing quality?" Any particular reason that I am overlooking that in 18.6.5 Studio this is still the same? Some sort industry standard or something?
@adeepoberoi1130
@adeepoberoi1130 4 жыл бұрын
Great tut. So 4K footage in a 1080 timeline, DR will still pull the adjustments from the original 4K right? If I make a compound clip of the 1080 timeline and color correct or stabilize this compound clip, would DR still use the original 4K footage? Or has everything just become 1080?

Hi Casey, Undoubtedly the best explanation around for this. One question I have is whether I can mix the option to "Center crop with no resizing" for some clips and "Scale entire image to fit" with others? It seems to change all clips to one or the other even after added to the time line. This way I could mix 4K video I want to zoom or pan on with footage that I want to keep completely in frame on the HD timeline. Thanks!

The question: when I upload a 2k video in the timeline (changing its settings to 2k as well) and render it and then play the original with the rendered one side-to-side, the render isn't as sharp as the original 2k unedited video. I have a footage 1920x1080 (screen recording) + around 400 px of a margin on the right with additional recorded stuff, exactly a little box with recording of shortcuts I use. So if I could use 'center crop no resizing' and just snap the clip to left and have my recording in 1920x1080. Above I wanted to add the same clip with cropped shortcuts box. I can't record it on my main screengrab because I do a lot of zooms in my videos (tutorials). Is this option restricted only to Davinci Pro?

Hi I was wondering if you could help me out. I shoot in 4k and put it in a 1080 timeline. In most cases I get all the crispness of 4k in a 1080 video and it's all good. My problem starts when I do a multicam. I usually do a mixed 4k and 1080 for my 2 camera setup. I notice that the 4k footage becomes quite muddy when I put it in a multicam setup with the 1080 footage. If I put it in a 4k timeline, it works great. But when I put it in a 1080 timeline, it becomes muddy, this is regardless if my project settings are at 4k or 1080 (which I guess affects the "container resolution" of the multicam clip, since it changes depending on the project setting resolution) Am I missing something? Why does it become super muddy when I put it in a 1080 timeline? It doesn't happen if it isn't multiclip. If I render the 4k timeline in 1080 it comes out crisp too (but waaay to long). Is there a setting or feature I'm not using? Thank you in advance!

Does anyone else have the same issue as me? Mine works nothing like his. I put the same option as Casey in the image scaling. Bring 4k into 1080 timeline. But it still crops it as if the other setting is used. But when I render it, it shows it zoomed in. In the edit, its been resized down. I have no way or previewing what it will look like except in deliver section. I can't use my 4k where I can make the zooms or the panning or anything.
