For anyone wondering this is the FM12 gas mask. It’s a wonderful mask, worth the money and usually not too expensive.

​@@vitalityfox You don't know what you're talking about, the S10 is the older version. This is obviously the FM12 because of the smaller/flipped exhale valve cover, smaller lenses, different head harness, and the lack of a ridge around the edge of the mask for NBC suits.

So.... When chemical weapons are going off all around you youre supposed to take a second to unwrap the filters, unscrew the cap, screw the filter into the mask, and then worry about making sure the mask is fitted to your face? The filter might store a lot longer but it seems more realistic to keep at least one filter attached to the mask at all times, even if its not good for the filter... Right? Its like not keeping a round in the chamber until you need it... Doesnt quite make sense

Its different between law enforcement and military. Police decides when to deploy CS gas, soldiers need to be ready for gas attack at all times

You are not actively at risk of being assaulted with chemical weapons at all times, Are you? If you ever come under such a threat, by all means, set up your mask for quick deployment. But this video was about how to store the mask when it is not needed (99% of the time) and how to make it last as long as possible when not in use (99% of the time) so that when you are going to use it, it will be functional.

In law enforcement you have time to setup your mask, because the only “threat” you face with it is your OWN CS gas that your guys deploy.

@@HettycTracyn Even in service, gas is never used. They made US troops go through a shit ton of training and medical prep during Iraqi freedom and gwot in fear Hussein was gonna use gas and chemical weapons. He never did. The closest we’ve ever been to using them in a mass use since ww1 is either that or napalm in Vietnam, and they didn’t even wear masks for that.

Fyi, those ww2 masks you can buy have absestos in the filters. Ww3 coming up, i just care about my fellow americans. Theres a lot of those tan masks out there. Stay safe. Buy contemporary filters.

I need help. I have 2 gas mask that i got surplus, both have this yellow film on the leneses i have cleaned them serval times when i clean them they get a little clearer but after i put them up and take them back out the yellow film is so bad you can't see through it. The lenses are not replaceable. Any ideas on what i can do?

It sounds like you have an MCU2/P or MCU2/AP. Once the lenses get like that it's permanent. That's one of the big reasons why the AF and Navy ditched those masks.

If you are smarter than the mask it will seal just fine. Alittle thick grease, like vaseline, will seal it just fine.

Also depends on the mask… Some masks are designed better… plus other countries militaries allow facial hair (and I think the US is starting to) and they can use gas masks…
