I agree- we are planning 3 cameras- one using a Cybershot DHX200 and then 2 mobile Android Phones - the challenge is the encoding software to go LIVE into Facebook and the video capture devices. We bought the wrong one, but will be testing it next week as our church is not in the USA and it takes forever to get here. I am using VidBlaster 5x because of it, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get my Cell phone - which is an IP camera into one of the modules that will play on Facebook. Someone suggested I get onto the CDN network - what-ever that means? When we get the cords and the other equipment that should hook up also to the sound board we will see if OBS will do the job. I hope so cause it seems a lot easier to understand how to connect a Cell phone (IP camera-Using an App) We can do a regular stream using FB page, or even our personal stream but that only allows 1 camera. Thanks We are debating to pay for stream by using Data which should be better quality but with 2 cell phones, it could be an expensive idea. If This can work, we should be able to run any event using this and even get to do more interviews - almost like a live TV station. LOL

Thanks for the excellent video Stephen! My question is what is the cheapest option to connect multiple cameras to your PC? This is not for livestreaming, but for a home-based livestreaming channel. Thanks.
@BallastMedia5 жыл бұрын
Kind of depends on the scale of how many cameras, and if you already have cameras. But one approach would be to get cameras with an rtsp interface (send video over the network, lots of security cameras use this, and the ptzoptics cameras, like their new zcam cameras) you could send a bunch of cameras in to your computer over the network that way and switch between them in OBS. I have a video I'm working on right now that is coming it real soon that describes this approach.

It all comes down to your lighting. If you have really good lighting, just about any camera is going to look good. I appreciate your video and we're considering using facebook live to stream our church services also. After watching your video can you tell me how far your able to run the HDMI cable from the camera without using some type of power extension booster? Our platform is roughly 100 ft from the Mac computer that we would use to stream. Another question to you have to use a separate mic for audio recording since our Pastor typically uses a wireless mic.
@BallastMedia7 жыл бұрын
Tom S HDMI isn't meant to run long distances. You'd probably be best off converting to SDI using the Blackmagic Micro converter which costs about $85, then you can run coax that length. Each of the interfaces mentioned in the video will accept the SDI input.
@toms74827 жыл бұрын
Thanks again. After additional research today I agree that SDI would be the best approach to allow us to run the distance we have to cover. From what I can tell, people indicate that the black magic convertor is a good option, but a AJA HA5 HDMI to SD/HD-SDI Video and Audio Converter works a lot better however its comes at much higher price. Also I believe we'll need a second SDI to HDMI convertor to transfer the video back HDMI so that we can connect the video input to a Mac via a min display port. Im not sure how to address the audio issue yet, but this should get us going on with the video portion. Please let know if you can think of anything I might be missing. Thanks

Tom S If you use one of the interfaces I describe in the video, it will take an SDI input. Just a regular port on your Mac won't take an HDMI input.

@BallastMedia7 жыл бұрын
To stream to facebook, no. They are the "CDN" for you. If you want to stream to your own church website, I'd recommend any number of streaming services, like Livestream, or there are several that are aimed at churches. These will handle the serving of your stream, all you do is embed the player on your site, but it's pulling the stream from their servers. Unless you have some special requirements, that will be a much simpler way to go. You can upload your stream to them over just about any reliable broadband connection with decent sustained speeds.

@BallastMedia7 жыл бұрын
Danny Gamez what outputs do you have on the stage pas? the clean box will take xlr (balanced) or rca (unbalanced) inputs so you can connect just about anything to it. on the other side I used an xlr to 1/8" trs cable to connect to the mic input of the camera. You don't have to use the clean box, you can connect your mixer directly to the camera if that works for you, I just found the clean box convenient for matching signal types and levels. check the video description for a link to the clean box-to-camera cable.

It has a stereo output (looks like 1/4"), left and right.

It serves 2 functions. 1. It changes signal types, from balanced to unbalanced and from mic to line level signals. 2. It provides a volume control that lets you adjust the volume if for some reason there is a big mismatch between your devices.
@BallastMedia6 жыл бұрын
More and more I'm telling people to only get the Cleanbox if they are having an issue. Try connecting audio directly to your camera first and see what you get.
@juliolebron48346 жыл бұрын
Ballast Media thanks again. I have connected directly from the mixer to the camera(canon hfr80) ans I get sound, the issue I find is a “hiss” noise when there is no sound coming from the mixer.
@BallastMedia6 жыл бұрын
If it's a higher frequency "white noise" hiss, then it's probably due to an impedance mismatch between the mixer's output and the camera. The CleanBox should fix that. If it's a lower frequency hum, then it could be a ground loop, in which case you'd need a transformer isolator, like the Ebtech HE-2 amzn.to/2GxdEsK

Thanks for the video. I have one quick question. Do you know if there are any alternatives to live stream through a Canon Rebel EOS T6?
@BallastMedia7 жыл бұрын
Godson1911 The issue will be if you can get a clean picture out the HDMI output. If so it will work fine as is in to any HDMI interface. Look in to Magic Lantern firmware, some times it's able to give a clean output on Canon DSLRs.

Hi - Can you have more than one camera rolling at a time and to shoot from different angles. How would you incorporate a multi camera set up
@BallastMedia7 жыл бұрын
The best way to do this is to use a switcher. Something like the ATEM TVS or similar. There are some software solutions that allow multiple inputs, and I think even OBS can do some rudimentary switching, but the most reliable way to do it is to use a hardware video switcher.
@robertpecoraro7 жыл бұрын
Hello, This was very helpful. Thanks for posting! I had a couple of quick questions. We currently are streaming our church services on youtube and are not looking to use FB but want to upgrade our camera from just a usb web cam to something with hd capabilities. My question is, will your recommended video source, computer interface and software work with KZbin as well?…and… can I use the VIXIA which you recommended (or something comparable) with Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt instead of the Blackmagic Ultrastudio mini recorder? The reason for this second question is because we need to send the feed off to a nursery room where there is a screen to display the service for those caring for their children. We run our services using a Mac and also are already familiar with OBS Encoding software as well. Thanks a bunch
@BallastMedia7 жыл бұрын
+Robert Pecoraro yes, the same hardware with obs will work for KZbin. Not sure exactly why the shuttle helps you get to the nursery, but it *should* work as an interface to obs as it inputs uncompressed video (I've never used the shuttle so take what I say with a grain of salt)

What kind of computer should we use for a camera setup

I usually recommend an i7 processor and 16GB of RAM as a good place to start for a computer for streaming. A number of people have used these along with a u-tap for streaming and had good success: amzn.to/2IgcDmg

Thank you for the Video. I have a different question that I can not find any solution online. I have a camera that exports image data live to an external hard drive. Instead of an external hard drive I want to hook up my computer to this camera and save the data live on a folder in my computer. Do you have any suggestions?

Unless your camera specifically has some sort of interface built in, like a webcam, then you'll need a video interface to get video in to your computer.

Hi Steven, I should have the new box Monday. The H. 264 Pro Recorder would be "retired? Can I still use the BlackMagic software with the new box you recommended? Also, having already acquired a Nikon, D800 prior to finding you, although a bit tricky, I got it up and running and wish to ask which set up of yours, being your original or 2018 version would work the best. Oh, took your advice on using a mini hdmi to sd cable to my box versus the heavy 30' hdm cable I had and... wow much better. Thanks again to all your help. Wish to send a link to my first live stream using your recommendations but don't want to distract from your work here. Any ideas as to how? Thanks again, Bill

So I just tried connecting through the USB because several people have asked me this. All it lets you do is offload the already recorded files when you put the camera in playback mode. I haven't found any way to get it to act like a webcam. So, yes, you'll need an HDMI cable and a video capture device.

I recently purchased a BM H.264 Pro Recorder. In this video you said you were using MX Light software for streaming. But I noticed in one of your other videos you mentioned using Livestream Producer. I see that Livestream Producer is supposed to be free, but I spent 30 minutes with it and could not get it to run unless I purchased a subscription. Do you know if there is actually a free version of Livestream Producer and do you have a recommendation on one of these products or the other. We've been Facebook Live streaming our services using an iPad and want to add a little more capability.

Mike Boggs You are correct, livestream is a paid service. Mxlight can work, it takes some work and configuring, not as plug and play as other options, but you get what you pay for. Thinking of doing another video just on how to configure mxlight and get it working. Seems like lots of people struggle with that.

This is a really old video, I'd recommend looking at some of my newer videos But the processes is essentially the same. My church has been recording our sermons with an older camcorder and recording the audio separately from sound board to a Tascam /dr-05 audio recorder, then editing it in final cut pro. We are upgrading our camera to a canon vixia g20. We would like to continue to record on SD card so we can upload sermon to church website later. However, we would like to jump into fb live streaming as well. My question: Would going from sound board -to ART clean box pro- to camera be good audio for live streaming and recording on the camera SD card? Is it Thunderbolt 3, or just 2. There are devices like the AJA Io 4K Plus that will take multiple HD-SDI inputs if you have Thunderbolt 3. Or....What USB ports does it have? Does it have USB3? If it does have USB3, then you could use an AJA U-tap for a second interface.

Those cheaper thunderbolt to HDMI dongles are outputs. HDMI is a one way street, so they can't be used as an input device.

OBS can act as a switcher between multiple camera inputs, and playback video files on your computer. When you add a scene add a Media Source and specify the file location of your video. When you select that scene it will begin playback of the video file.

Keryn Vigil for streaming focus on processor and RAM. (if you are not recording on the streaming machine, hard drive size and speed aren't as important.) I'd get an i7 processor and at least 8GB RAM, more would be better.

Do I need switcher and another Mars .. I will get the cannon you mentioned in your video.

Does the camera have an HDMI output? I can't find much info online about that camera. I really don't recommend the Pro Recorder for live streaming anymore, there are better options now. The problem with it is that it doesn't play well with very many streaming software programs. As long as your camera can output video on it's HDMI port, then it will work with the AJA u-tap for live streaming: amzn.to/2jQ9kHf

If you already have the Pro Recorder, you could download the trail version of MXLight and see if it works well for you - before you spend the $60 to purchase the full version. Trial version just limits you to 10 minutes of streaming and then it cuts your stream off. This video will walk you through the process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f33QnY1op96anM0 (I'll be honest though, it's not the easiest program to get working and most people get frustrated with it.) The AJA u-tap and OBS are a much more reliable/stable/user friendly solution. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJfKmH6voplmntU

There are a lot of tutorials on youtube and through their website about how to get that working.
