We can use the Matrix section of the Behringer X32 and Midas M32 to perform system processor functions like crossover EQ, delay, and limiting. Check out in this video how to set up the X32 for LR+Sub, Bi-Amp, or Tri-Amp systems!

Drew, one thing to mention here is in version 4.0.2 using the Butterworth and Linkwitz-Riley filters adds/incurs 9ms-10ms of delay/latency on your matrix outputs. That's the delay the X/M32 incurs to add those filters via its DSP. If you're going to use the output delay to time-aline your speakers, etc make sure you use a true measurement tool as that 10ms DSP delay can/will bite you and cause unexpected phase shift and comb-filtering . :) You can easily test this in SMAART by calculating the delta between a Pink Noise loopback and the non-EQ'd matrix vs a Pink Noise loopback and the matrix output using a BW or L/R Filter.

The X/M32 boards are deep, for sure, but with a bit of practice they're quite usable! But I agree with you -- I've owned my M32R for eight years, and I'm now learning new things watching these videos!

I am sure Drew already has a video, but if you don't have any Matrix to spare, want to setup LR+Sub and don't mind individual per channel LR + Sub sends (some consider this a critical feature for Bass Management, i.e. keeping source channels out of the sub), one can still setup the EQ on the LR and M/C channel the same way. Don't forget to configure L/C follow Mains: Setup (button) -> Config (Tab) -> Link Prefs (Section) -> M/C master lvl follows L/R lvl

You beat me to it. I would never put subs on a matrix. M/C all the time yes.

Drew, I'm always impressed with the level of your knowledge of the X-32. I've used one in the FOH for a small live band and I have a second one in a studio setting, feeding into Reaper. I've been using them for quite a few years and still never needed to know about the matrices. now that you have enlightened me as to what they actually do..... WOW! You made a point of the EQ limitations, being used up... Does this mean that I can no longer use EQ on the channel strips, independent of the matrices, or the main LR? I'm thinking not, but I still had to ask, just to make it clear in my mind.

Hi Drew, great video! What's the advantage of using a matrix for the subs over the M/C bus? Thanks for all the videos you've done. I've learned a ton from them. Thanks

Gret vid. If you have a sub each side L&R I'm guessing you'd just use channels 3 & 4 linked and use two outputs right?

When i rout LR to matrix using as crossover for main (Butterworht at 100Hz) i get mono on matrix out routed to xlr 12.Why?

Shouldn’t the subs be set to minus 6 Db since you are summing L/R to mono matrix

Drew your videos have been very helpful, however we are using shotgun mics with the X32 for a play. Can you help give directions for the best sound quality? We have four mics setup onstage and we have humming and squealing I guess you call that feedback. I am a IT person and new to working with a soundboard. Thanks in advance.

@@yedidiyanikelo789 I don’t think I can share the sound here. However, the sound starts low hum then starts getting louder until it roars until muted. Then after unmutes it starts again. Note: it is much better now that I have rest the EQ as said in his other video.

Hi drew. I purchased a x32. For our trio group why is it my manual only has 4 pages of English and it doesn’t have information for any of these settings that you are showing
@ke6gwf
@ke6gwf 6 ай бұрын
Because the manual would need to be several volumes to contain all these deep details lol Plus with firmware updates things are constantly changing. Behringer themselves put out videos and additional information, but people like Drew who are explaining options for specific use cases are the best way to learn it, short of just going hands and and taking the time to learn it. Think of a digital console as a blank slate, it has a bunch of features with many ways to use them depending on your use case, and all Behringer needs to do is tell you the basics, and then you have to apply your own knowledge of your use case to configure it.

Hello nice job there I tell my friends That you are x32 prophet. Anyways could you do in-depth tutorial about snippets and cues. I would like to have a snippet for male and female mic setting. Sometime our worship leader is a male and sometime a female. The emphasis should be on routine what you check and what you uncheck. Secondly I have seen you have a zero scene where your console is initialized and Scene 1 , 2 are not. How do you achieve that? I mean how can u initialize without loosing other existing scenes. Thank you.

One advice for those who can afford a lot of money is to buy a home theater processor such as Trinnov Altitude 16. Some high-end processors can let you set crossovers and timings without having to mess with Behringer. Plus, some high-end processors may come with room correction technology built-in so that it can adjust the levels, set the distance, and run an EQ calibration for all the speakers in the venues. I'm not sure if a home theater processor is appropriate for a large venues, but at least that is an option. Of course, the downside for this is cost and that a home theater processor is designed only for home theater use only, but that is something to keep an open mind. Of course, the Trinnov Altitude 16 does feature 2 analog XLR inputs, which can be very useful. And I know home theater processors are not home theater gear, but that's all I can give for now.

Sorry, but this would likely be a really terrible idea. The first issue would be the difference in expected signal levels between pro audio equipment, and "consumer" or "prosumer" audio equipment. Lets just stop there, and suffice to say that while there are many similarities between tuning a HT system and a PA, there are many differences too. And it's the differences that will come back to bite you. System processors already exist for pro audio... in fact, every quality line array manufacturer either makes their own, or recommends a suitable 3rd party model, although some of the smaller powered line array systems have the system processor built in to each speaker and are fully adjustable remotely (eg JBL 900 series). If your budget only allows for point source speakers, then you can get started (in 2024) with a Behringer DCX2496 for under $400USD (front panel programming only). If you can spare a little more cash, move up to a DBX Drive Rack PA2 for around $600USD (Win, Mac tablet remote programming). There is a really long list of these things... you can start by looking at those 2, then doing your own research. Sky's the limit in terms of features & price. Also, learning how to manually tune a system is a priceless piece of information for those times when automation fails... highly recommend taking the time to learn if you are or plan to be a sound engineer. Even if the "auto" button ends up sounding better, knowing the process expands your mind & abilities. Bottom line, anybody reading this post in the future, do NOT do what the original poster suggests!!!!
