Amazing woman, ive never had a silkie, but I've had many roosters. If you find being attacked wears thin, there is an old teaching tool that has often helped me. When lovely brad attacks you, gently hold him upside down and tucked under your arm until he calms. Then place him on the ground and go about your day. Repeat as necessary, but USUALLY only has to happen 3 or 4 times...although i had one stubborn Cock named Darnell that I carried around while doing chores one-handed for two days before he admitted that I was yard boss. He was a gorgeous boy that eventually lost a battle with an owl hunting long after dawn. He attacked the owl that was going for his hens. That was Darnell. I still miss him.

The technique that I have found that works for me with the silkies is mimicking the dominancy. What I mean is you grab them hold on to their back with one hand and make them basically sit down on the ground with the other hand you grab the back of their head neck area and gently put their beak to the ground and hold it until they submit. I had a Brad, he got broke of that real quick.
@karenrandall83752 жыл бұрын
My grandmother had a large white rooster named White Cloud. He was very mean. Think Brad on silent mode doing speed. He'd attack anyone within his running distance. You didn't have to do anything. Just sitting there or standing in the yard. He'd cross the yard without a sound and flog you as long and hard as he could until you managed to remove him. He seemed enjoy leaving us bloody. Once he split my grandmother's forearm from her elbow to almost her wrist! One day grandma had enough and met his violence with a bat. She threw his corpse away saying he was just too mean to eat.

We have a silkie rooster who is a spiritual brother to Brad. We've probably had close to 20 roosters of various breeds over the years and this is by FAR the meanest rooster we've ever had. The saving grace to our silkie is he is so inbred that one of his eyes is kind of turned 90 degrees from how it should be, which makes him horribly inaccurate. He can see everything, he hates everything, he attacks everything, but he can't hit the side of a barn. We would have been sentenced him to the cooking pot a long time ago if he wasn't the most entertaining thing in the yard.

Two suggestions for dealing with your attack tribble ... [1] Wear boots with a big snake's head painted on the side. Sensible birds give snakes a wide berth. Especially big, venomous looking ones. If that fails, then: [2] Wear shoes shaped like Velociraptor feet, so you can fight back. If necessary, fit titanium claws. Just remember ... have you ever seen Brad try to pick a fight with Karen? 😀

We had a rooster that knew exactly how far you could walk out into the horse lot and he'd be able to run out and kick the living crap out of you before you could get back to the barn or climb a fence. He would even hide so when you looked for him - didn't see him - and thought you were safe to walk out there - he'd still get you! But if you got him in the chicken coop - he was a sweet as a fluffy little kitten. I still have nightmares about him - and I still miss him.

I hatched him and hand reared him. He was lovely. Everyone loved him. Everyone at the vets office cried when we put him down. He’d sit on everyone’s shoulder and just chill.
