I will have to play with a more consistent ball position this fall and next season. Greetings from the San Fernando Valley in California! Five excellent tips Todd on how seniors can unleash their driver swing. As a VLS advocate, I am adhering to all of them, but will be making slight adjustments. You asked for stories on Palmer after using his finish as one of the tips, so I will give you mine. Anytime Arnie came into Los Angeles for pro tournaments whether it was Rancho Park or Riviera Country Club, I went out to see him. On one of the tournaments, I had him autograph the book he wrote "My Game and Yours" that I owned. On another occasion, when he was was at Rancho Park I saw him and asked for his autograph on the program and have my picture taken with him. A 8 1/2" by 11" framed photo of the two of us now sits on my desk in my office. There will never be another golfer with his charisma!!
@USGOLFTVshow Жыл бұрын
Wow, this is a great story! I will need to pick up his book. How is it?
@johnschwartz1536 Жыл бұрын
The book was copyrighted in 1963 and contains 158 pages and sixteen chapters. The chapters cover things like: Golf is easier than you think, How to be the one golfer in fifty who holds the club right, how to buy a set of clubs and the right ball for you, how to talk yourself into better putting, the secret of accurate driving. Besides written dialogue, the book contains numerous pictures on basics and Arnie in different forms of the swing. My dust cover is rather tattered now and the pages are becoming discolored and rigid, so it's not taken out too much anymore. It was a book that was referred back to numerous times by me!

I set-up like you do but with a slight difference. I start with my feet together, but I position the ball opposite the toe of my trail foot. Then I move my trail foot back but don't move my lead foot. This ensures the ball position is always the same, as it removes the possible variation of how far I happen to move my lead foot.

Great expanation of how to hit driver for seniors. Question: I'm using a 10.5 degree adjustable driver that can addup to + 2 degrees loft or take up to 2 degrees off the 10.5 normal loft. I used to play a driver that was listed as HL, and I found that I had to play the ball more off the center of my stance with the tee a bit lower to avoid the rocket to the moon skyball. If I'm setting the ball forward in my setup, should I be adjusting the loft to a minus setting to avoid the skyball and get more distance? I'm 82 yrs old (excuse me, experienced) from Daytona Beach and I did buy your VLS package, which I do find helpful.

Saw Arnold Palmer in 1977 , play on my home course - En Joie Golf Cub , in the B.C. Open in Endicott, NY. It was a PGA event for about 30 years and is now a Champions Tour stop - the Dicks Sporting Goods Open.. He shot 65 in the first round and was tied with Lee Elder for the lead. He eventually faded from the leaderboard as the weekend went along - and as he left town he flew his plane over the course to say goodbye as bordering the course was a small regional airport that he had flown his plane in and out of in order to play in the tourney.

Regarding your last bonus tip. I took some lessons and was told about this. If you set your grip on your driver with the club head resting on the ground, your grip on the shaft is actually a bit too high. As you swing down, you are more likely to hit the ground first instead of just skimming the top of the grass and rising up a bit to strike the ball. Lifting the driver head up a bit before your backswing is actually going to help avoid striking the ground first. It works for me, when I remember to do it.

Hi Todd... Two questions regarding driving. 1. Squaring the club face: When setting up the stance, is it better to set the driver on the ground and square the center of the face in the direction of the drive OR is it better to hold the club up in front of you, turn the face, (understanding that the driver face has a slight curve) and set your lead hand grip with the sweet spot perpendicular to the ground? 2. When starting the stance with your feet together and the grip center, moving your trailing leg back is going to turn the club face inward (draw). Should there be an adjustment by moving your grip a few inches toward the lead hip to effectively bring the face back to center? Thanks in advance and am picking up a number of valuable tidbits that have already helped my game as a 70 year old guy. Oh Ya, now living in Myrtle Beach.

I saw Mr. Palmer play in the 1980's at a tournament in Maryland. I was standing close to a man in a wheel chair. Mr. Palmer saw the man and walked over and spoke with him a few minutes and shook his hand. Mr. Palmer was a geniunely decent man.

Good tips but I did not see you hover the driver in #1-#5. Maybe camera angle didn't show it.

My theory on hovering the driver off the ground enables the golfer to have a smooth take away of the golf club.

Agree, we expand on the concept in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmeVin-NestkjdEsi=Heue6HGzl_gffUFn
