Here in the states most 92+ 940s have the g80 locker, I've got a 90 & 91, both came with a 4.10 rear & automatic. Usually the NA autos have a 3.73 or 4.10, manuals never came with the 4.10 I pulled the axles, removed the diff & pulled the ring gear off. Made it easier to clean and weld

Very good work. The MIG welding machine welds with very little spatter. Well adjusted. 👌

I love out of the box thinking, a Volvo drift car makes me happy. I hope you’re out there smashing all the S13s and Mustangs soon.

Great video, the car is coming on well. Looking forward to the rolling road. Welding the diff takes me back to the f2 days 👍

Best British auto engineering channel! Wish I had all that equipment, great to see such precision work to make a custom drift car which is unique 💪

The speedo is probably not going to show the correct speed anymore (if you havent already noticed that) the metal strip that the speed sensor reads has less slots (probably half the amount) on the welded diff. Cool project anyway and interesting to follow the progress. Keep up the good work. /viewer from Finland 😄

oh you are going to hate that plate in the diff when a driveshaft brakes gonna be a pain getting all the fragments out ;)

Never knew they modified drift cars 🤔 Interesting video, looking forward to the next 😁

I always get a little nervous seeing that much weight in the air especially when its fiddly. Nice work!

There is a way to modify a g80 locker if your 7 or 9 series has one. Drifts and lifts, the most notorious Volvo drifter, has a tutorial on KZbin

The wheels look nice. I'm also curious how the Volvo will do in the drift.

Glad to see your still at it building those really unique cars and trucks. That welded diff is going to be pretty tough on the road taking corners but it looks like it’s mostly going to be for burnouts in circles anyway. It’s definitely not a grocery getter anymore.

It wont be going on the road with the welded diff just offroad drifting
@MartinMcMartin3 жыл бұрын
Here's a crazy way I locked a diff. I got a pile of fishing sinkers. I melted them down, and poured it into the diff carrier, theory being that there was no weld heat to stress the parts out. And it actually worked.

The diff is a LOT like that of a Jeep Cherokee, a Dana30. 940 16V or automatic came with a 4.10:1 ratio which would have been nice to have for drifting if the car doesn't have 200+hp. I think 4.10:1 was the shortest available ratio on any version of the stock 740/940. You can get them even shorter but those would be expensive aftermarket rally parts.
