Super nice work on the diff. When you are ready to install the axles. You may have to shorten one of the axles about a 1/4". If you search for G80 in a 240 you should come up with the information on the axles. Thanks for the great videos.

You need some engineers blue on either the pinion gear or crown wheel to check the depth of mesh + measure the lash/preload. Easier now than when it’s noisy as hell and you’re trying to sort it full of oil above your head.

Your driver's side half shaft is going to need about 6mm trimming off the end of it to go into that diff.

the bit that bolts to the propshaft (THAT ONE IN THERE) PINION and the big one fixed to the diff with more teeth that looks like a crown a CROWNWHEEL as if you didnt know and just f*****g with us

I also face two differential overhaul jobs, for the Ford Transit MK2 from 1982 I found a company, 300 to 400 euros including parts. For my 1977 Reliant Kitten rear axle I still have to find a company for the revision work, I can't get the wheel hub off (probably rusted).

Rings and pinions are matched sets, mxing even otherwise identical parts in from other diffs would just have been a recipe for howling gears. And you have checked that the half shaft splines are the same for the two diffs, hevan't you?

Well done, slightly diffconbobulated there for a minute or two. Those nasty teeth didn't help or, losing your bearings but, got there in the end. I love it when a plan A comes together. Happy days.

The diff. is so underatted.Its physics at its finest mechanically.Arguably the most complex part of a transmission and the whole vehicle.Banger racers weld them up and fuck the genius up in doing so ? I could weld my left foot to my right foot.Same principle.

Also I would have kept with the 41 teeth.Ok its a compromise.Not as quick of the mark but longer legs at speed.Alot of early mk 1 escort owners swapped a rear 1300 axle for an 1100 to make them accelerate better but went on to bog the 1300 kent down and hence a lower high end speed because it was reving its nuts off and getting hot and basically going to go pop.
