Honestly, I've watched a lot of martial arts channels talk about it, and I think the skill itself (self defense) is secondary to the benefits of the sport itself. The discipline, control, confidence, and exercise is great! Also your likely hood of needing to defend yourself for most people, is very low (obviously this varies depending on where you live) and martial arts is a pretty poor simulation when it comes to an actual self defense situation. Things that happen on the street are very different and there are so many variables at play. You aren't going to to be in a ring, wearing shorts and gloves, fighting another person who knows how to fight, with a ref stopping things of it gets out of hand. Your going to be fighting someone who is undisciplined, possibly armed, maybe more than one person, and they are going to be doing everything to hurt you, not just punching or kicking, I mean hair pulling, eye gouging, biting, you name it. Then take all that, and combine the fact that they may be in drugs, you are wearing loose clothing, which is easy to grab, and your probably fighting on a hard surface like pavement. I watch a channel "Sensei Seth" where he went to a place where they try and simulate actual self defense situations. Seth is big, and he has A LOT of practice, and let me tell you, his performance was less than stellar...

Honestly, the sparring session felt less like a teacher trying to train his student and more like an older brother trying to play boxing with his younger bro. As an older brother, I've been guilty of the exact same things Alex has done here. I always start trying to train my younger brother at the "sport" we're playing before getting riled up enough to escalate it into an actual physical fight without noticing. That's why being a trainer is so hard. You're treading that fine line between sparring and fighting. Go too far back and it's more of a punching bag course. Go too far forward and it's a straight up duel to the death. The line is thin and not everyone can control their impulses, I know I can't. So, don't guilt yourself too hard and just try to learn from the experience. I'm sure Aleksa doesn't hold much a grudge

As a senior sparrer you have to know guys,never box as if you’re fighting as the senior, let them tire out and focus on putting all the moves together and showing them where they’re open you never actually go for hits like that, it’s a spar not a fight but of course we live and we learn and sometimes accidents happen despite being safe, you just have to be more prepared if you wanna launch hits like that especially considering you fought before and I was really proud of your fight honestly, love the content as always guys💖
