ladybugs work well. Also, in my research, I found that if you spray neem oil a couple of times a week, it's organic and works on almost every plant to keep them pest resistant.

lady bugs have a life cycle that is three stages. The lady bug is the mature stage the first is larval. The second stage are these black odd bugs. It is this middle stage where they really devour the bad bugs the eat ravenously in order to grow. I use them every year. I stopped using insecticides 10 years ago because my plants looked sick and the bugs kept coming back. By not using insecticides I basically stopped poisoning my plants which was making them more appetizing to the bugs. By introducing good predatory bugs into the garden I have not had a problem since.

I seen on Netflix the Chef Show when they are at the sky walker ranch in the garden that the lady plants radishes next to lettuce. The bugs eat on the radish leaves instead of the lettuce.

What a beautiful garden...aphids, cannot tolerate soapy water sprayed on the plants...in a spray bottle, just a little biodegradable dish soap shaken with tap water...works for roses as well...hope the ladybugs and mantis work for you...knowing you don't want to use sprays.

This is a super dope switch of content on your channel. I'm excited to take the journey with you on learning more about gardening. Food is political, and if you can help empower people to grow their own food, you're doing a huge service to humanity.

These gardening videos are awesome! Please keep on making them. I know nothing about gardening and when I try I’ve been a failure. But I wanna keep trying so any tips help 👍🏼 it’s so important to learn to grow food. It’s like basic human survival.

This is awesome. Looking forward to a tomato video. That’s definitely where I want to start with growing my own food - and don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of info out there, but I value your knowledge and you do a great job of explaining all the details. If possible, could you go over the best uses for different tomatoes (sauces, salads, sandwiches, etc) from your experience? Would be so helpful!
@monas.68394 жыл бұрын
Copper sulfate, neem oil, and food grade (make sure it’s not the one for pools) diatomaceous earth are what I use for garden pest control, as well as “companion planting” which helps minimize a pest problem to begin with. Use earth worms (red wigglers) to help make your soil really rich, and don’t be surprised if all of your lady bugs fly away...mine have done that a few times. Also, you should only be water your soil, not the plant leaves. If you don’t have a compost bin, get one!

keep the gardening videos going!! i'm currently struggling with trying to grow an herb garden. all of them wee growing great in the spring and now they're just turning woody and shriveled up in the hot south summer. i don't know what to do really.
@seichorn40792 жыл бұрын
sometimes some plants just will not live through that hot summer period, no matter what you do. so dont get attached to plants that may not survive. harvest them, pull them, and let the soil rest until you can plant again.

Ladybugs are awesome gardening partners, but I have a suggestion against buying them from store. A lot of times the lifespan is cut down from the traveling in shipping, and bugs kept in a container in a store don't have easy access to food and plants they need to keep strong and healthy. They also don't have areas to lay eggs. They spend most of their life in a container and the life span is not long. So by the time you by them, they could be close to the end of their life. It's like buying live fish bate at a store: It's a good option, but the critters usually die in the store while awaiting purchase, and are not as effective once dead. Then the animal is just waisted. Another issue is that ladybugs who are set free usually travel outside of the area to lay eggs. They don't stick around long in the space you need them. If they don't lay eggs in your garden, then the next generation won't be there to continue the natural pest control you desire as eagerly growing young ladybugs. The BEST WAY to attract and introduce ladybugs is to plant things like flowers that attract these bugs, and others. These will actually encourage them in a natural way to lay eggs in the vicinity of their garden, because you've provided them with a comfortable living area. You don't just need to set them free to control your aphids. You need to first create an encouraging space to ensure a continuing population of helpful insects in your garden. Even a small potted plant in a minimal growing space helps a lot.

@monas.68394 жыл бұрын
leo ll I’m curious as to how one would go about this, short of a romantic candle-lit dinner featuring aphids and a side of stink bug? 😁 Seriously, though...is it possible to encourage mating?
@leolldankology4 жыл бұрын
@@monas.6839 a female lady bug can store male sperm for up to 3 months. If you provide an environment with lots of food and water, they will naturally lay eggs where their offspring have the greatest chance for survival. Barry White, wine and cannabis never hurt either.
