As an original collector I have to say i was VERY disapointed with this purchase. It was relatively expensive compared to other sets and when weighed up against the sets of the time, it only felt like a recolor of existing sets, with nothing new to add. EDIT: As a Long Term collecor I'm obviously happy to have the set, that said: This felt like it was the end of Bionicle, and I was validated a few years later, so.. EDIT 2: I got Khazahni around the same time, which I payed less for!

4:00 Damn, that's one of the coolest looking beak designs I've seen. Also it's always interesting how different people react to exclusivity, I personally despise it with all my being, probably because I live in one of the countries that rarely (if ever) gets selected for anything exclusive so usually its just feel like a big middle finger to all the fans outside the US, Japan or the handful of other countries that get the exclusive stuff, meanwhile the rest of us are simply not worth it apparently even though we pay just as much if not sometimes more for the same products and if we want to get any of those exclusive sets we need to pay insane amounts to buy it off someone from those selected groups who deserve it more than us based on some arbitrary factors.

I think the reason why these two feel like the same as Chirox and Kirop is because they share too many similarities, and the mask only compounds that. The Makuta and Shadow Matoran share the same motifs in their mask, which is a really weird coincidense if you're looking for lore reasons because the Mistika sets have the same feature as the Phantoka, but then none of the Matoran match, so it always felt weird to me that there weren't another small 6 sets that were swapped good and badguys since the Toa and Makuta did that. But back to the set in question, Vican can actually get away with being the way he is, but I think if you were to swap Mutran's mask with a recolor of maybe Takadox's face, it might work. Maybe Carapar with some lime green teeth. I don't want to have the Phantoka confused with the Barakki, but I'm trying to find any other mask that would help Mutran look different enough from Chirox so that there's less of a comparison to be made when you have Vican also present. I've also thought of a black and lime blend on Kongu's mask from 2007 because I bet you could make that look a bit sinister, but I don't know if that's a good move or not. If 2006 had used regular masks, it probably wouldn't be so difficult because there could be a few more masks to pull from.

Nah, not worth it. Nocturn is a much greater use of solid recollors, I love to combine it with Gardunkas and Takadox parts.
