A handful of people asked for a tutorial on this, so I wanted to give a shot. It's mainly for my own learning purposes, but hopefully you guys enjoy it as well.
I was a little sick when I recorded the audio, so apologies if I sound even lamer than normal.
Feel free to check out my patreon at: / sinix
And Corel Painter 2017 is out now! You can try a free trial here: store.corel.co...

One tip I'd like to add, as pointed out in Scott Robertson's book "How to Render", is texture gradation. Texture is most visible on reflective surfaces at the center light, whereas on matte surfaces it is most visible at the mid tones, the area on the light side closest to the core shadow. Last week I upgraded to Painter 2017 (I was previously on X3), and it has a lot of cool and fun texture options. And the glazing brushes are a joy to play with too!

the lazy paintings are the best to me. I love loose brush strokes, and the paper texture works best in that context I think.

that first texture was incredible, when i saw that draw on twitter i thought that you just used some photo texture, but you actually painted it!

I love how you use Corel Painter. You're one of the few who really seems to master it in terms of concept art and solid drawing skills. I never used paper textures like that, but definitely should! :)

Hi Sinix! Another splendiferous video. Are the brushes you use available for download? Are they compatible / transferable to Photoshop? Or perhaps there is a method you use to creating them that I can apply to my own? They look absolutely stupendous and I'd love to try them out! Thank you! Shelly

lovely! I'm just now trying to find out whether or not to buy corel painter and i really love what you're doing with it! although it's clear that you just have the skill to probably make some badass art even with win97 paint ;D still, the brushes and the way the media is simulated looks nice in your vid. =) i've mainly worked with PS until now - what do you guys think are the strong points of corel painter when compared to ps? thanks for any unput in advance!

you can do it by making a textured brush in Photoshop, it's just not as fluid as using a paper texture, rotating / scaling / flipping in Painter, it's much easier and fluid in Painter you can also easily change depth and contrast of the paper in Painter, it's much harder to do that in Photoshop, you would need to capture multiple brushes
@Svartegrim

Theoretically it should be possible to do similar in Photoshop.

***** If you watch his other video called Painting Like a Sculptor, you'll see that the main painting brush he uses is the Dry Brush, found under the acrylics brushes. For sketching he typically uses the Scratchboard tool.

Ugh. You totally skipped over the fine controls. When you textured the bird you changed the size and warped it. I paused it and still can't really tell what the heck you're doin.
@nokiot9
@nokiot9 6 жыл бұрын
And holy crap. At 7:50 the part where you're rotating the texture, why is it resizing the texture without registering it on the bars? I'm doing it right now and as your rotate it it goes through a 'small-to-big-to-small' phase as it goes around. But the size bar is the same. So you gotta like eyeball the right size because it changes every different angle. I can see it's happening to you too I think.
@nokiot9
@nokiot9 6 жыл бұрын
It's like when you have the texture at a straight angle like it's supposed to be, it's at the normal size. But as soon as you angle it, it shrinks. And then with some textures it doesn't do it at all. I'm so confused right now...
