These videos are so helpful man! Seeing these videos, and having you explain what, or what not to do seems to be the most helpful way for me to learn proper technique, and be able to really get it in my head. Thanks man!

Felicia's situation was what my son was dealing with a while back. It's scary when you are jumping crooked, cause it gives you ZERO confidence to go bigger. If you are going crooked on little jumps, there is no way you want to move up to bigger jumps. It kinda locks you into that level. We kinda fixed it on our own, with information that I've learned from AJ, and others. Part of the problem is that my son was riding scared at that time, after moving from a CRF125F to a KX85. Just totally scared and stiff. The other problem was that his attack position was not right --- arches of feet and knees forward. Once we corrected his attack position things got better, he started doing better which kinda relaxed him a bit, and things improved.

Hi AJ, l also became your fan recently and enjoing a lot watching your videos. Just a small remark about the girl with the yamaha : lf you'll look carefully on her last jump, you'll notice that she hits the side of a small rut and that what makes her bike going sideways. To differ that from your skill level of riding and other fast guys, you are all coming to these jumps so fast, that the momentum eliminates any possible occurrence of the bike to go sideways. After 30 years of riding sportbikes, l started riding motocross at 50 years old, and that issue of the bike going sideways on jumps, to me, also happens many times. l would also like to use this opportunity to thank you a lot for your educated & funny videos ! thanks for your time and efforts of what you bring & teach us from your experience ! keep doing that with your blessed passion ! Have a great week Stephan

Bike kicking out could also be bad rear wheel alignment compounding with being rigid on the bike
@mikeraskin73192 жыл бұрын
I can't believe how much better and different riding is with the balls of your feet on the pegs with the heels down, opposed to being flat footed, even being on the balls of your feet. I noticed the bike is more stable not to mention being able to grip the bike better. Without having your heels down it's way too easy to be launched into a flying W or worse. Having your heels down while on the balls of the feet makes a world of distance. I wish I knew sooner how important this is. Thanks for the videos and free knowledge.✌️

I love these videos. They are so insightful and educational. It's great for us, and I believe that it's great for you. When a topic is common, it will help a lot of us, where we don't have to ask the question ouselves, which in turn helps you be more efficient.

Love these breakdowns as I’ve stated before. Thanks for continuing to put these out. Question: on jumps how do have your legs tight on the bike, heels dropped, hips rolled out while being relaxed so the bike doesn’t get rigid? (Almost seems like a contradiction 😂) I’ve never heard anyone speak on a reason for getting a rear end kick is because you’re rigid and not letting the bike do what it’s supposed to do.
@harrynoakes2 жыл бұрын
You've got to be fluid on the bike, you can grip the knees without death gripping it, as long as those toes are forward and knees are against the bike you gotta let the bike move under you or you're just gonna get thrown. I think grip with the Knees is never explained correctly. Don't death grip the bike with the knees, use it to hold on but let the bike slide through your legs.

@@harrynoakes thank you for taking the time to write out this explanation!! REALLY HELPS and makes sense 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@themotoacademypodcast2 жыл бұрын
That was pretty good explanation by Harry. Allowing the bike freedom to move around under you is super important on jump face. Using the the technique you imagine as “picture perfect” is useless if you’re stuck in a static position. It’s tough to explain, and comes with a lot of confidence with jumping, and confidence comes by repetition and progressing on safe jumps 👍🏼
@taylorshytle2 жыл бұрын
@@themotoacademypodcast thank you! Even the detail of the freedom on the jump face is important that I didn't know. I thought you were supposed to be locked in on the face. Thanks for your reply!
@dr00andrew2 жыл бұрын
gary semics explained how to jump really well. you have to absorb the rebound from your bike as the rear wheel leaves the face. remember your front suspension is going to be unloaded while your shock is still compressing as it is about to leave the jump face. you want to be in a very neutral position with your ankles dropped for flexion on the jump face. obviously elbows up and head forward, but keep your body neutral. keeping the hips unlocked is key. as your shock rebounds when your rear tire leaves the jump face you want to bend your knees and from the hips down and absorb the rebound from the bike. your weight should be near the rear of the bike to absorb this. once the rebound is over and the bike starts to level out, start getting your body positioning neutral again and as you are about to land drive your weight forward and get on the gas

I had some problems with my back end kicking out a while ago and I fixed it with mainly foot positioning and keeping my legs straight back going off jump faces because it puts more weight to the back not giving it more room to move
@schmittyshow89982 жыл бұрын
i did this a while ago. you need more weight on the rear wheel to keep it straight on takeoff

These videos have been super helpful. I have have been working on keeping the heels down, but lately I have been noticing a lot less support in the boots and causing my heels to drop far enough it caused injury in the whoops at my last off-road race. time for new boots or technique error?

I've noticed over the years, and it would be nice to have you do a video on it..but I had for years used Teck 8 or fox boots depending on my gear and a few years ago I bought a new pair of Garne boots and they were so rigid I couldn't drop my heals while riding at all ..I literally gave them away after a few weeks...

Always a great video. I’m a amputee and got a 1997 warrior 350. Never rode a quad for moto before, is the body placement the same with a quad as a bike. I had awesome form and style years ago on 2 wheels. I guess I will just start slow and see where it goes. I’m sure it all still starts with the feet, my problem is I won’t be able to get back with heel down because I don’t have any flex or movement in the ankle. Next week is when I start training at the private track once it gets groomed. I’m sure I’ll look like a five year old on it but at least I’ll be having fun

Cornering I have no clue, but stand-up position I would have to imagine is almost the same! I don’t know anything about quads, though.

Hey AJ quick question I’d like your insight on. I’m a c rider with about 1 year experience on a mx track I try my best to stand in attack position with riding on the balls of my feet and over the weekend I cased a double with my heels dropped on the pegs my right ankle hurt pretty good on the landing, any explanation on why my ankles could hurt and how I could prevent this? I’m on a Honda crf250 with alpine star tech 7 boots for reference thanks
@themotoacademypodcast2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, Those are good boots, so you should be plenty safe in them. The tech 10s would offer more ankle support, but it’s more than likely because you allowed your ankles to flex too quickly and not with progressive strength. You have to control the flexion of your ankles and not allow them to go to full flexion too quickly on big impacts. It’s same thing with using your knees and hips. I see SO many riders just cave immediately upon landing. Hope that helps 👍🏼
