Honestly, for me the main issue is he (Novak) gives off very self righteous vibes. Like, not "I know what I am doing and am confident in it" or just "I love my work and I am confident in it" vibes, which are totally fine for an artist to be in my opinion, but "my work is moving millions and everyone who disagrees has bad tastes" vibes. Like, an artist can actually be amazing at what they do and I still wouldn't like them and their work purely for that attitude. It looks like he has some talent so I hope he eventually pulls out of that and starts working on himself a little more.

I...don't think this guy understands what SNL is looking for at all lol. SNL famously hires standup comedians because it's a live show in front of an audience written from scratch in a few days. Most SNL cast members only start acting (or getting notable roles) AFTER gaining notoriety on the show. There are definitely SNL alums with musical talent (the lonely island and Steve Martin come to mind) but they mostly make songs that are bits set to music. Also we literally have proof of talented actors and musicians being unfunny or out of their element on SNL with all of the hosts who flop, and they're not even doing it every single week
@trashketchum97829 ай бұрын
yeah that was why the audition video bothered me so much when i first saw it. i don’t know much about the inner workings of SNL but i at least figured that being a cast member is something people work their asses off for years to achieve. the idea that he’d be hired based on some mid-tier youtube video is absolutely wild

@Pinktish2 жыл бұрын
One thing that bothers me about the america song is that he specifically says he doesn't feel free in America. Like, dude, it's not about you! Yes, you can feel unsafe, that's normal, but mentioning abortions being banned and gun violence in schools and then going "and now I don't feel free :(" is so tone deaf. With the first song, I want to believe he's making fun of people like Jake Paul who create controversy for attention, but as a trans person, I'm so fucking sick of these, "oops, don't want to MiSgEnDeR sOmEOne, I'll get CANCELLED" jokes. Being misgendered as a trans person is such an unexplainable discomfort, but the best way I can illustrate how bad it is is that I once threw up and got physically sick after a teacher misgendered me in front of my class. It's not cis people's joke to make and I'm so tired of it. I think some cis people just like, forget transphobia is still very much alive and kicking an assume it's a thing of the past that they get to joke about how.
@FrenkTheJoy2 жыл бұрын
I'm just too used to people on tumblr being like "how dare you assume this fictional character's gender" and I think maybe that kind of thing is what he meant? Even leaving out that it's actually a problem that real people face, it's a really dry-ass "joke" at this point.
@Pinktish2 жыл бұрын
@@FrenkTheJoy yeah, I could definitely see that being it. His delivery was confusing, I couldn't tell if he was making fun of people getting upset over misgendering or making fun of people who thought it was okay, or maybe even some weird middle ground
@thedestroyasystem2 жыл бұрын
@@Pinktish Absolutely, that line came off weirdly to me. I hate that some cis people are only concerned about misgendering it due to how they’ll be perceived for doing it, rather than the harm that they’re causing. And that definitely read like he was one of those types, but it’s also possible he just conveyed what he was trying to say very poorly. I definitely agree with your other point, too; hearing a cis (and presumably) straight white guy talking about how he doesn’t feel safe in America anymore is so fucking frustrating. Like Jake, you have *always* been safe the US, this country was designed to ensure your ability to access power at the expense of others. NONE of the issues he covered affect him, and while being an ally to the people who are in danger is great, making it about yourself and how YOU feel so unsafe and unfree is really gross.

Like they care but they don't really care. It's be cool if the bad things stopped, but it's not important enough to do something. It's all a hypothetical struggle for them, a conceptual battle between good and evil instead of something that actually threatens people's lives, so they think they're making the soundtrack to the revolution they'll never even be a part of. That's why it's so infuriating.

The Hoedown was a recurring bit on Whose Line, which was big in the late 90s and early 00s. Calling it a Facebook video is apt. A comedy song about getting canceled for attention would work if it was confined to just a one-off character. The perpetual "theater kid" vibe he puts off doesn't make that distinction clear so it doesn't land. It also makes the part of the song where he wants to do things that get him "kind of" canceled come across worse for him as a person, and not the character. It's just "I identity as an attack helicopter" levels of ignorance that should stay in 2017.

To be fair though, I think it’s safe to say that while it may be in the same genre- the final product is worlds apart! Zaid has a very different approach and has a great sense of editing when it comes to the headlines he includes. This guy is coming after Randy Rainbow’s gig and it does feel forced, like he’s trying to game the algorithm. Those glasses though 😂

speaking of this guy seeming like he took bo’s “edgy song-humor” thing, his video for SNL just feels like he saw brian david gilbert’s video resume for polygon and thought he could do it better even though the big difference is no one asked for it and it doesn’t demonstrate any skills the company wants

For some reason I wrote this as if this is Jake Novak’s channel… So, please, could you forward my message him? Just kidding. Don’t do that. Well, the things is, Jake Novak, you have something called the Actors Delusion Disorder…. You probably aren’t getting cast because you actually aren’t that good. And you think you’re funnier than you are. It’s ok, it happens to all of us actors at some point in our careers…. But you’ve gotten to the point where it’s like…. Yeah, I don’t think he’s ever going to accept the reality of the hand he’s been dealt and adapt.

You can tell he leans into the "i am the quirky funny man" but sometimes you can look like the quirky funny man, without actually being quirky or funny :/

I feel like the tadpole thing was supposed to be "those people are so sensitive they'd get triggered over misgendering a tadpole" but all I can think about is why he chose a _tadpole_
