Casey, it is so funny that you told the reason why we don’t see the stick when you are holding the camera out the window. I was literally getting ready to send a comment to ask how we don’t see the stick. Great minds think alike. I certainly enjoy your channel. You are very entertaining, and I usually learn something. I love your personality, tell it like it is. Take care, stay safe.

I was wondering about the same thing! Thank you Casey for clarifying the "How in the world does he get those shots without the stick or shadows of the stick showing" mystery.👍🤗👏
@JohnHallgren
@JohnHallgren Жыл бұрын
@@judithburke1539 actually, in a number of cases with the right lighting and ground conditions, you can and will see the stick shadow because it’s in a different place from actual stick. The software can’t easily detect it. But the camera knows that the stick is connected to it directly so it can find and remove it. The shadow has been seen on multiple occasions, especially in bright sun on snow or dirt.

Regarding garbage in the woods. I always carry heavy duty contractor garbage bags that I buy at Home Depot that I put all the garbage in that I find in the forest. Then I take it back to town and find a dumpster somewhere and throw it away. Just a thought.

Exploring back roads like that is one reason I like motorcycles. A mid sized dual sport bike works very well. Being on the smaller side they get great fuel mileage so exploring is cheap.

C'mon Casey, you know you're supposed to use the right tool for the job. That end wrench wasn't designed to scrape mud out of a receiver hitch. That's what screwdrivers were made for! (Preferably a Torx bit, since it has more grip in the mud.) 🤣

I think a big part of what makes the tracked jeep so effective is that it is just about the perfect weight.
@HappilyHomicidalHooligan
@HappilyHomicidalHooligan Жыл бұрын
Wrecker is too heavy for the Tracks (at least the ones made by the company Casey's tracks were made by), I think the vehicle limit is 2,000 Lbs. and that wrecker weighs 11,000 Lbs. Now, if another company DOES make track systems that can take that kind of weight...screw a Tracked Wrecker...I wanna see the ROLLBACK on Tracks... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣
@firehydrant315
@firehydrant315 Жыл бұрын
@@HappilyHomicidalHooligan a quick google search shows Mattracks brand tracks are available up to 40,000 GVW (Casey has American Truck Tracks). My thought is that power to weight is what makes the Jeep useful in the way it is, the very large tracks and low gear ratio give the Jeep the ability to drive in deep loose or sloppy snow.

Your take on Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”,struck a familiar and nostalgic note with me. My neighbor Chuck, and our three or sometimes four teen and preteen boys would’ve take my little Toyota pick up all over the dirt roads in the forest around our cabins in Munds Park Az. during the late eighties and early nineties. We would just wander around looking for forest roads that hadn’t ever been on.Getting stuck was never an issue because of the muscle we were carrying. Now our sons take our grandkids out and do the same thing. Occasionally, we grandpas get to go if we happen to be up there that same weekend, but never with the contingent like when we were all young and our kids were just teens. Everyone of course has different lives and schedules, but we still have our cabins, which are only one lot apart. That factor keeps us all linked together in spirit if not location. BTW I am 76.

I was doing the same type of thing on my motorcycle last year, only staying on paved roads. I'd go for an afternoon ride and get to some small town I haven't been through before, see a road that looked interesting and go explore (after seeing that it actually went somewhere with my GPS). I had some really fun rides through some beautiful areas doing that and plan on continuing to do so this year because it was so much fun. Not going breakneck speeds - more just out for a casual ride on the bike and enjoy the scenery around me.

In Ireland we have woods, but over here there are gates blocking vehicular access. All exploration has to be done on foot, or bike. I’m pretty sure that’s designed to prevent people camping and leaving all their rubbish behind them, or even worse, leaving their burned out vehicles. Not sure why, but when that happens in Oregon it just leaves a mess for people like Casey to clean up. If it happens here, it burns the whole forest down. At certain times of year even a stray cigarette butt can cause a huge fire. Would love to know how some of the Oregon campsites didn’t do that, after seeing some of Casey’s cleanups. Those RV fires must have been huge!

The recovery went well and the young man seemed very appreciative. The conditions in the forest appear to be snow mush and mud. Your explanation of why we don't see the stick on the 360 pole is a big thank you. There was even once on this video where you were hanging out the window and we could see your arm but not the stick. You found a great place to come back to and camp. It is also amazing that there is cut and split fire wood there for you. Next I am sure you hauled out a toilet with the old pinch your butt seat cover. Saved you having to remember where the toilet was for a cleaning party later this year. Maybe that was there so people wouldn't be dumping in the forest Wonderful trip to the forest for recovery and clean up.

Yup, that is what happens this time of year in Central Oregon and the Oregon Outback. Going down this nice dirt forest road, come around a corner, and you can be faced with feet of snow that's still there because of drifts and/or shadows. It is definitely fun to explore out there, but be sure someone knows what area you are going to, incase you get stuck and have no phone service.
