I’m no coaching expert, but from hearing Thierry’s TV commentary, he seems like the kind of guy who knows exactly what he wants (and he is definitely articulate and knowledgeable) but can’t convey those ideas to his team effectively probably because of impatience or inability to improve players.

I've noticed it's often difficult for the most talented instinctual players to transition to become coaches/teachers.

Could be a possibility. I would give Henry some leeway considering these are young players who he probably doesn’t have a lot of time to work with. Which also means they might still make young player mistakes since they’re still learning their trade. Not to say giving a 2 goal lead is a good thing. Just hoping adding some context might explain what happen or give a different view. I’d also need to watch the game to see how France played because it could’ve been a situation where the US just knicked a tie.

@@hengineerabsolutely. I remember the analogy I n Baseball, Barry Bonds is famously another who became a batting coach and would tell players how to see the ball and hit and say that’s it. That’s all you got to do, but the players would say he didn’t really coach them. And that they wanted more.

It seems to me that if Ricardo Pepi's minutes at Copa America are likely to be at best very limited (IE he's behind Balogun and one of Sargent/Wright), it would make a lot of sense sending him to the Olympics since he's age eligible and wouldn't count as overage.

Wow. If Richardo is eligible for the Olympics (not overage), put him there! He’s an experienced striker (sort of) that would do quite well.

Yeah we have 6 nine's currently in the pot for US Soccer (Balogun, Pepi, Sargent, Wright, Pefok, and Vasquez). All of them can't make the COPA squad. One of the odd men out should be on the olympic team.

Our U.S. young bucks showed the fight and grit the U.S. was always known for, but now we actually have some talent to back it up. Very proud of these boys. Good depth in this squad too.

These U.S. players need playing time with some of the señior squad in the next gold cup! Just as Reyna, Pulisic got some time, we need to push more of these players to Europe ASAP!

This was great experience for the US guys, regardless of what happens at the tournament. They played a very talented team in front of a good crowd, which isn’t always the case for U23s and such.

Great result for USA, but this draw is actually better for France because after that they won't take any side lightly, including the U.S. in the Olympics.

Not that I care about the result of a friendly, but that penalty call seemed a bit weird to me. The fact that he gave him the opportunity to get his shot off and missing before actually calling it. Wouldn't it either be an advantage or a penalty? not both?

ohhh right right, my bad. As far as those three being on the Olympics, I would still say no on Reyna cuz he belongs with the Senior starters for Copa. Pepi is the best option for Olympics if everyone is healthy and if he is still behind Balo, Wright. All depends on the rest of April, May and who comes in healthy @@xowormsfan1

I’d take 2 CB’s Miles Robinson+Austin Trusty and Johnny Cardoso as my overage players. Then I’d bring Pepi, Tillman and possibly Musah since they are age eligible and might not play huge roles in Copa America

The Olympics has a restriction of 3 players above age 23 on the roster. It is primarily a youth tournament. The graphic they showed was misleading because all teams are bringing an U23 team. Also, the Olympics schedule overlaps with the European preseason schedule and the beginning of the European season
