Roger was just being Roger. Enough said about him. But Andy deserves mountains of respect. He's generally underestimated because he lost in finals to one of the greatest of all time. And in most of those it was quite close: Andy managed to stay with Roger. On 2 occasions Andy nearly won. He played great tennis. There are some who've said that apart from the awesome serve, Andy's game was quite mediocre. That's sheer nonsense. You don't win a grand slam and reach many finals by having a game that's in any way mediocre. Andy was a great player, and he definitely is one of the 100 best players of all time. He simply had the misfortune of playing during Roger's time.

Well said. When very young he had to deal with Sampras. Then, he had to play Fed in his later years. A tough task for any human.

The problem for Roddick was that after the AO 2005, he was never the powerhouse player anymore. It weakened his game far more, which made it easier for Federer to dismantle. His terrible approach shots didn't help. He should've never fired Brad Gilbert, as his coaching style was more suited to Roddick's game.

He was actually unbelivable for amost a decade up until 2011. After his 5 straight titles he lost a very close final in 2009, and then lost back to back SFs in 2010 and 2011 very marginally having several match points in which some could say he was the best player on those tournaments overall.

Having started watching in 1971 and playing in 1972 . Watching matches in any time period its interesting to see the style of play . Roddick in 2007 with his style and body type , is a bigger and stronger Jimmy Conners without the consistent approach net game Jimmy always was looking to come in , with a much weaker serve . Add that component to Andy's game he is not just counting on a 75 to 80% 1st serve percentage along with low % of unforced forehand to win. Roger is a bigger stronger Rod Laver. In todays game to win slams you most have the all around game . Connors would have to be bigger and stronger . But in any sport and in any time period they make do with what they have and who they are . Change is a part of all sports .

Gotta feel for Roddick. The fact that he threw everything at him, tried his absolute hardest, only to get beaten in straight sets. He must have hated Roger's guts by then. And there was still Wimbledon 2009 to come.
