The 2006 bill they talk about was passed with almost unanimous support due to the post office showing a profit that year of around 6 billion dollars. Also about this time email and social media web sites were starting to become more popular. Over the next few years text messaging and other forms of instant messaging came along. During this same time period online bill pay was growing more popular also. All this cut into the first class mail and those profits. Since the congress has ignored this growing problem they are the most to blame.

Operating a fleet of trucks too small to deliver sizeable packages in a profitable manner was huge mistake. Since the 1950s all they've had is tiny little jeep trucks. If it weren't for third-party drivers like you USPS would cease to exist. Amazon's off-the-shelf, non-custom vans have probably double the capacity.

All post office is good for today is delivering junk mail and Amazon crap!

They deliver prescriptions and government documents (State ID/Licenses, immigration paperwork, passports). They also deliver and return mail-in ballots. For the older population they also deliver and return utility and phone bills. I still believe that it benefits everyone especially the underserved rural communities. And they help thousands of small businesses function. Most packages are only viable to be shipped through USPS for places like eBay, etsy, poshmark, etc.

They made it seem like they lost the money! They didn’t make the 26 billion like they did prior

Sadly we no longer need the postal services any more. It’s an out dated system that really didn’t keep up with time..

@@Hyvexx I use Amazon, which uses contractors. I dont mail letters, buy stamps, nor use the Post office. I don't hate the USPS either nor do I want employees to lose their jobs. I just feel that USPS is antiquated and needs help to continue appealing to the younger generation.

Yep. I could understand 10-15 years but 75 is insane. They're basically funding the retirement for people who are still teenagers today and won't be in the workforce for another couple years.

The Post Office's all-inclusive method is killing them . Darwin, CA for example is on edge of Death Valley and has a reported 34 residents. Yet, they operate a Post Office anyway. This makes me think that on a location basis, I bet there are hundreds, if not thousands, of locations that individually chalk up negative incomes. USPS focuses on including all people and locations, even those with significant loss. If there are 1000 locations each costing say 100,000 loss per year (rent, upkeep, bills, employees, etc.) then that's 100 million loss in itself. TBH if Darwin, CA didn't have a Post Office for their 34 residents they would probably move back to the city. Losing $4.93 billion last year is an epic failure in itself. Trump recognized this and talked hella smack, yet in his 4 years he did not successfully make any changes to effect USPS long-term growth (in order to stop losing money).

@Sulfen7 ай бұрын
If any USPS driver steals your package report it to your post office and to the Postmaster's office. They take it seriously and they will investigate and find out if it is being stolen and charge them with a felony.
