Everything looks so simple. I remember my pain trying to reach SPG while carrying a stage bottle and twin set. It was even more challenging to clip it back.

Under what circumstances would one need to stow an SMB while underwater?

Under training. I understand your confusion but under advanced training the SMB is used to train your ability to multitask: You have to send it up to the surface, pull it back down and stowe it away while maintaining your buoyancy, position, attitude in water and still keep an eye on your buddies. For that kind of training we use a small SMB, so small (3 - 4 litres) that you can compensate its buoyancy with your lungs. Extremely difficult. That is why it is such a good practice.

@@cnjdk How do you pull down an inflated SMB from the surface? You're saying you make yourself negatively buoyant to offset the SMB's positive buoyancy?

@@leemoore8154 Yes, that is the point of using such a small SMB - only 3 - 4 litres. You can compensate that with your lungs only by breathing out and only make small breaths with almost empty lungs. It is not easy but it is possible. Then, when you let the air out of the SMB, you must breathe in quickly in order not to sink. I think I had to practice it 100 times or more before I got it right. But it really is a good practice to make you aware of lung and buoyancy issues and to teach you to multitask which will make you a safer and happier diver because you grow your capacity and lower your stress threshold.

Good question. You may also retrieve something else from the pocket and need to untangle or reorganize for some reason. Maybe you forgot that you are deco captain not in charge of smb and have to put yours back. Things happen and the procedure works the same for storing other items such as a mask, wet notes or maybe cookies.

What is the glove system in use?

Here I use a glove with a drysuitseal on it. So its seal on seal. I also use the KUBI ring system and the SANTI smart ring system
