this was great, just picked up the 2 pack and exploring GMRS

Thank you for the info! I appreciate that you handle GMRS and HAM at the same level. Your reviews have helped me a lot on my purchase decisions. Now, let’s get you that coffee!

Just a quick note... You can indeed link to the UV 5G Pro with CHIRP, but you need to choose the UV 5X in the CHIRP connection menu. I'm pretty much a noob with this, so I don't know if there are things that don't work quite right when you use the 5X as a proxy for the 5G Pro. That said, downloads, uploads, and other programming changes seem to work OK.

@@GadgetTalk4U just picked up the UV-5G pro. Came across your video on it. Been watching a few. Just waiting for my call sign and thinking of joining the repeater group.

Hello, I was given 2 radios from a friend, however one has broken screen, while looking I did come accross th UV-5G. What difference is there between the pro and plus version? At same time, since I am out in rain and wanting to carry on fishing kayak, I do wonder if a waterproof model would suit me better. Let me know what you think would be a great fit for 2 way communication. Thank you

The UV-5G Plus is a bigger radio with larger battery, andmore memory channels but internally is very similar. If you're OK with the BaoFeng feature set and operation, the UV-9G would be a good choice for being around water. I have a review on the channel from a year or two ago and here's a link amzn.to/46BLNjM

@@GadgetTalk4U So I just wanted to come back to you on the UV-9G seems like a really nice radio, do you have any experience of the newer UV-9R Pro against the UV-9G?
@GadgetTalk4U3 ай бұрын
@@Sentan555 The UV 9R Pro is a ham radio, not GMRS. Both are reasonable radios, but for different services. Not legally interchangeable.

@@GadgetTalk4U Ok, so the GMRS is more suited for 2 way communication then? Since thats what I am going for?

What’s the difference between the UV-5G Pro and the Plus? Your link to Amazon is Pro but affiliate link to Radioddity is Plus…?
@GadgetTalk4U4 ай бұрын
The difference between pro and plus is referenced in the video. The Radioddity link is a coupon code for anything on their site.

Why are they going backwards ? Why not program these additional frequencies in the form factor of the larger UV-5G Plus ? The advantages are a full 5 watts of power, USB charging, etc. That airband reception is horrible. The airband should not sound like that. The airband should have the same clarity as the FM section of the receiver. Baofeng you could have built a complete new radio with genuine AM circuitry for the aircraft band. You could add additional channels in banks of channels. Your UV-17 Pro GPS has 999 Channels in 10 banks. Great for traveling to different areas. Hopefully, Baofeng will expand upon this with a better offering in the future.
