The famous Uzi submachinegun is a brilliantly simple firearm that is straight blowback and fires from an open bolt. While it was not the first firearm to feature a telescoping bolt, it certainly took the concept and ran with it. The Uzi was an international sales success, and if you grew up in the 80s then you certainly remember seeing all the action heroes running around with one in their hands.
So what makes the Uzi tick?

I always loved how simple these are. They are even more simple then the AKM. If you want to increase the cyclic rate of your Uzi, you can put a buffer behind the recoil spring in the receiver. This will decrease the distance that the bolt will travel and increase the cyclic rate. If you go too far though, the firearm will not be able to strip the next round from the magazine.

A really great example of a design where maintaining the firearm was definitely thought out. Not overly complicated and easy to field strip, combined with rugged construction. Excellent weapon.

i learned to handle the Uzi in about an hour during my time in the german airforce. after that i was able to field strip it blind and shooting it for the first time was even easier. a nice gun with a well earned reputation.

"I wish modern sub machine guns could do this" I like this qoute. When it comes with good firearms it is always easy to swap the barrel. It has to be more quick than changing Your socks.

The first Subgun I ever owned was an IMI Model A Uzi. Lord what a rabbit hole that thing ended up leading me down! I agree with you; i wish more modern SMG types had QC barrels too. It is just nice to be able to swap them out. Uzis are a must for any of us who grew up in the '80s hehe, cheers.

I remember it had 9 parts, had to clean them often... great weapon, always works, you can actually hit targets with it, if you know how to fire a bibi gun and hit something..

2:06, you could just wedge something around a centimeter thick behind the operating/recoil rod plate and the rate of fire ramps up a bit..

Thanks for the great video. I remember years ago, I was working my part time gig for my town when the Secret Service came to town. They had mini Uzis in briefcases that they let us look at. I've always liked them, although I wouldn't give up my Carl Gustav m/45 for anything.

I don't care, so long as I can get my 1980's action movie goon action on then I am happy. Every good Goon knows how to take care of their weapon, that's how they appear for more than one scene.

When was the Uzi made? And is there any similarity between the Uzi and the Mac-10?
@DrGun-re1kd
@DrGun-re1kd 8 жыл бұрын
+Bigg B Beginning in the early 1950s. Mac 10 is kind of a POS by comparison. Parts often broke, making them rather unreliable bullet hoses.

Dr. Gun ok thanks. For some reason I thought the MAC-10 was better because it was American.
@DrGun-re1kd
@DrGun-re1kd 8 жыл бұрын
Bigg B No problem. I never mean to discourage other shooters or collectors. I should have been more specific. The MAC10 was uncontrollable without its designed suppressor, they relied too much on stampings, which at the time were poorly done, and resulted in many failures. The Uzi, though Israeli, was designed for a specific need, to arm second-tier troops, specialists, and settlers with a reliable automatic weapon, which was rugged, and reliable. It did its job perfectly, and other nations found it fit some need as well. The MAC was just the wrong gun for the wrong market, and poorly executed. I like American arms the best too, and that is what all of the ones I use regularly are.

I have owned this gun and another uzi for 5 years, and have 20,000 rounds or so through them. I have never had a problem with the grip safety.
@REPO831
@REPO831 8 жыл бұрын
When the shooter relaxes their hand, they disengage the grip safety enough to where it will drag on the bottom of the bolt and may cause a malfunction. Thats my point. As you said, it's a great gun but the said the problem can happen.

+REPO831 I ran around with an UZI for 6 years (army) and I never ever had aproblem with the safety grip. If you grip it to fire, it comes natural and will function without a flaw. dry, clean, dirty or wet.
