V Collection X: I was never an ARTURIA guy. Will it CHANGE?

For me, the big seller for the arturia collection is the sheer number of workflows it unlocks, at a decent price point with a premium sound. Sure its more practical to have a workhorse that can do everything, but i find having less features can give the synths more character. Its that character, combined with the synths layout, that decide how my sounds form. And it always feels rewarding.

If you click the little triangle at the top right of Acid V you can fine tune it to give it a more vintage feel and dirty it up some. Synth Stack 4 and V collection cover so much ground, it feels like it’s all I’ll ever need. More than I’ll ever be able to fully explore!

Arturia's synths are the kind of synths that, when you play them solo. they all sound bland. But when you're trying to make synths fit in a mix, Arturia is king. On the opposite, synths that sound amazing when played solo almost never fit in a mix.

100% this! I was just about to leave this very same comment (but since you did I will just add to it here instead). Yes, 1000% this is where the “magic” to Arturia is! I felt the exact same way when I first tried their synths… I went and purchased their version 9 + Pigments anyway because they are a solid company and figured I would just dive in and hope for the best. I was not disappointed at all! Then the version X came out, and I didn’t hesitate for one second to grab that for $125. Arturia REALLY stepped up their products in version X! The sounds, the user interface experience is just incredibly better… plus the MiniFreak and Augmented Brass made it a no-brainer decision to drop the $125. So many instruments and effects and the key, versatility! Works flawless in Logic and I rarely grab any other synths these days. Did I mention MiniFreak as well? 😂

If a synthesizer sounds weak on its own, it's unlikely to make a significant impact in a mix, as it lacks fundamental sound quality and character needed to stand out or contribute meaningfully to the overall musical picture.

There are some amazing digital synths in that collection like DX7, Synclavier (!!!), SQ80, Emulator II, CZ and even Buchla Easel - all sound exceptional and absolutely digital by design! Try them out!

I had a lite version of Analog Lab when I used Studio One(I think it was the intro version)...I liked it, but never upgraded. Fast forward many years later...I saw Analog Lab Play for free and tried it out & I flipped over the great quality for it being on gratis(though the lack of editing features was disappointing.) When Arturia's sales came around again, I was soooo excited to get the CS-80 VST for $74(as well as the wonderfully upgraded Pigments for just $99! I will be pulling the trigger on Analog Lab V this Friday and I must say....I am utterly OBSESSED with Arturia now.....great synth quality, wonderful integration with the individual instruments with Analog Lab AND a fantastically intuitive GUI with Analog Lab! The simplicity of layering multiple presets so seamlessly is amazing(& very reminiscent of the old days of hardware synth workstations! )

As I said to my wife after my stroke (blood clot in brain) - Some day I'll be able to buy Arturia V Collection X - That would replace Roland, Native Intruments (Kontakt) and many more .. Arturia and Vital .. thats all you need in this life 🙂

Yeah. MiniFreak looks like a pretty simple and limited little synth, but it's actually extremely powerful and flexible (and good-sounding)!

Also. If you have the hardware, it doubles as a 1:1 controller for the software, where changes you make in the V updates the patch in the hardware and vice versa. The combination is extremely nice, direct and hands-on.

V Collection 1 - Released in 2012, V Collection 2 - Released in 2013, V Collection 3 - Released in 2014, V Collection 4 - Released in 2015, V Collection 5 - Released in 2016, V Collection 6 - Released in 2018, V Collection 7 - Released in 2019, V Collection 8 - Released in 2020, V Collection 9 - Released in 2022, V Collection 10 - Released in 2023. I don’t see the value in it anymore. Seems like the same sounds difference skin at the end of the day.

Me too. On the long term, it just burns money. If you buy Diva from u-he, you get the most classics in one and without paying once a year for upgrades.

I have Arturia V Collection 9, as well as Korg's Legacy Collection 4 and use Reason Studio DAW. I will be upgrading to Arturia V Collection X, but will wait for it to go on half price sale (for me from $199 to $99, may have to wait till summer or Black Friday). I miss ReBirth a lot, and never really found a good replacement for Acid Music creation. So I really want the "Acid V"! Also I love Brass, and Woodwinds, so nice to have those added. So far not a big fan of the "CP 70 V" because already have the electric keys covered mostly by Arturia's V9 collection Wurly, Fender Rhodes, Farfisa, Vox Continental, ... I do highly recommend the Arturia V Collection if you are patient enough to wait for the sales. Don't let the "does not sound exactly like the analog" bother you. It sounds better than analog (better polyphony, effects & sequencing, endless patch saving and tweaking, no re-tuning, no patch cables,, warm up time, maintenance, ugh, ...)! There are plenty of tweaks to add in some random whatever, and in a mix I challenge almost anyone to tell the difference.

Today some of the easiest sounds to recreate are the 303 bass sounds. You can do that with almost every modern vst synth. Sorry, but there is no need for an Arturia Acid V on the synth market in my opinion.

I am not so sure it is digital sounding to most as there are a few videos on KZbin that compare the original instruments to the Arturia virtual one and most felt they sounded either exactly the same or so close you could not tell which was which. I agreed and was actually surprised how exactly the same most instruments sounded.

I felt the same, it was this or Ik multimedia. Even though Ik’s installation is horrible, it just sounds so good to my ears. Like it’s not bad, Arturia just sounds really clean. I guess it ultimately boils down to what you want and workflow.

I own IK gear and plugins… and while I do tend to love their sounds and connectivity to hardware… the installation / registration keys / authorizations are an absolute nightmare! It took me two days to get an iRig HD to link up to a new MacBook Pro and honestly it just shouldn’t be that hard for a company that spends so much effort getting their modeling sounds so perfect. Then again, they must be doing something right since I tend to keep using their gear / plugins lol

Turning off the delay and reverb will show you how good their raw tone has progressed. uHe is still #1 for synths followed closely by GForce.

90% of the Arturia presets are DRENCHED in reverb and delay. It's totally covering up the weaknesses in sound, unprofessional and makes it useless. I bought the V collection and a KEylab and NEVER use it. Wasted money

I never criticized the synths themselves, but the "presets". I don't know anyone who would slap on effects like that before even starting to write/play/mix. They cannot be turned off easily,, its working backwards. Sorry, that is not professional to me@@axoplanet6081

So what’s amusing is you are the reverse of me. I’ve been using Arturia since 2009 and it was only this year that I added Cherry Audio. I honestly believe that between those two companies, you can cover a lot of ground with software emulating classic instruments and thus having a synth museum in your computer. A few things: -Pigments is not part of the V-Collection as it is an original software instrument. -MiniFreak: The only difference between the software and the hardware is the filters. The hardware uses an analog filter. -I often credit Omnisphere for having the simple control menu followed by deeper control menu. But that’s just my experience =]

its just amazing that some of these even exist. there is a guy on one of the Arturia vids talking about how close the Synthy-A VST is to the original hardware that he has (except for the crazy oscillators, he says). some are better than others. the farfisa one they have was made when Combo Model F (a free version you can still find if u look) was bought out by arturia and i think its very good. i think poly synths are done better by spectrasonics and u-he but YMMV.

Not sure i see CA sound engine as any better than Arturia? Both are great collections and fills a nostalgia slot. I was Arturia before CA... both have a sound but also both have improved there "analogue" engine in recent releases... elka synth x onwards and Arturia since the V releases Agree 100% re uhe uad but also geforce and softube synthsc have a great analogue sounding engine. Highly recommend them. All can fit in and have a use though. We are spoilt for choice and the problem is more too much choice and time to learn them all. No excuse equipment wise now though for not making superb music.

lots of cool stuff in V collection. I already got everything except 2 instruments so I wont be upgrading as Arturia wants €99 which is the same prices as users that owns none of the new instruments. Arturia kinda sucks in that way that they release new stuff regularly, if you get it before the new collections (which are a collection of already released stuff) its a very unfair update pricing. I agree about the sound quality, there is better stuff, it is no U-he or UAD quality. I mostly use Arturia for sound effects and background sounds, but the Mini Freak and Pigments are very nice additions just not more of their emulations.

I am the same really except I get 3. Not 100% sure but i think I'd seen a 199 upgrade for people with non of the new instruments though. I did upgrade to complete my collection but it's never a great deal with arturia when you buy as they release except for spreading the cost. It's a great collection in fills a nostalgia slot. When it comes to synths you really should try Roland Cloud plugins, great synths from Roland themselves and I use only them over Arturia now.

the best for me are ms20, buchla easel, mellotron, obxa , CMI and synthi! you can go very far and deep sound design and there are not so much other emulation of them (and acid V or MS 20 are better sounding that concurents for my ears ;) thanks for the vid !

I like it and had the collection before cherry audio came out with a lot of their synths, but I gravitate to cherry audio myself. OPX is the best obx emulation. Arturias does not come close.

Well, also because the "V" was originally supposed to stand for "Vintage". Hence, the emulations of all the older "vintage" hardware. Pigments, not belonging to such a category, excluded it. Although, the meaning may have / or will change as time goes on.

imho every arturia synth sounds kind the same, no matter wich kind of synthesis is happening. kind of plasticy. never liked it.
