Maybe a silly question but why do you have a Stratus and a Garmin GDL on the dash?

Seems like mostly good advice but Bill gave you a negative transfer of learning from his flying twin engine jets. In a single engine piston it's "positive rate"... when you've climbed high enough and forward enough to not be able to glide back down to the runway aka "out of useable runway" you depress the brakes to stop main wheel spin and gyroscopic rotational stress on the gear during retraction, only then with those two things met do you retract the gear (safe technique is to always have your hand on the gear switch while gear is in transit so you can verify it went where you wanted to.
