Finally! The ShowXpress teacher I've been looking for! One question about the reverse pan & tilt: Can I do the same for just 2 movers or that just applies for 4 or more like you were explaining?

Hey +DJ PC Baby, Thanks for the shoutout! Under the tab FIXTURES, simply select the 2 movers that you want to reverse tilt and pan to. Then right click and select reverse pan/tilt. This will only reverse those 2 movers! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

can we get dmx settings for the adj zipper and others? i know i can get these from the pdf document for that fixture, ok. but is this and some others like this to be added to the showxpress lists. thank

Is there a usb to dmx dongle that showxpress recommends? Does showxpress have a built in driver for such things? I also have yet to check the back of my yamaha piano to see if it has a dmx port. If so, I should be able to route my pc through the midi to the keyboard, use the keyboard as a physical controller, and from the piano to my lights; this would moot my initial question.

Thanks Derek for sharing these tutorials, quick question: Can you create different set ups in 3D view, or you have to overwrite the one you have every time you want to make a different set up? I do not see there is an option, probably you can help.

HI! Thanks for watching! To your question, You can't have multiple 3d profiles per light show. I wish! The only way I can think of is to simply duplicate your light shows that have all your fixtures the same, you just adjust your 3D viewer to fit your different applications.

Thanks Fernando! Yes, ShowXpress works with any fixture that has DMX capabilities. You might need to create your own fixture profile for this fixture.

I am so new at this, so forgive this dumb question. Am I running one cable out of the 512 plus and daisy chaining between all lights? and then the computer communicates to them based on channel address even though they are all on virtually one line?

Hey Cory, Thanks for your question! Yes, you are running a dmx cable from the 512 plus into your first dmx fixture. From there you just daisy chain your dmx fixtures one to the other. Then when you import your fixture profiles into ShowXpress, it will generate your dmx address for each fixture. Then you simply go to that fixture and set it to the correct dmx address so ShowXpress can talk to it. Hope this helps! Darren

In show express i want to be able to make a lighting show with out plugging in my lights so i can do it on the go but when i click the dmx slider options or something the 3d viewer window minimizes. How can i stop the 3d viewer from minimizing on my mac? Cheers

Hi +Ben Yorston, Open up the 3D viewer window, right click and select 3D Settings. From there you should see a check option to make the 3D window stay on top of all windows. Cheers!

If you change your fixture in Showxpress to RPan & RTilt, will you have to change it on the fixture as well? For example, if I'm making a scene on the fly at a event and wanted to reveres one of the fixtures, will I have to manually reverse that fixture via the DMX menu on the physical fixture?

Hey DJ 1800 , Usually it will automatically update to Rpan & Rtilt without having to adjust menu settings. However, there are some brands that require adjustment in the menu as well. The best thing would to test out your movers prior to a show.

Great videos, thanks... but can you help me understand why I don't see my lights (T3B) rendering any beam in 3D view? I've also tried other lights that I don't own just to see if it is that particular fixture, but none of them seem to change color or show a beam when I playback my scene...

Never mind, I see that this particular fixture doesn't get a "beam" so it does not appear to light up the stage at all in the 3D view. In real life, it does, of course.

I recently uploaded 2 relatively new products to the Chauvet Line into ShowXpress: Intimidator 455z IRC & SLIM PAR PRO H USB profiles. Everything is responding OK with the overall DMX Set-up, but the fixtures do not populate in 3D View. Also, the fixtures do not populate a picture in the GRID (in the Steps Tab), they're just generic Alpha Squares. Is their a possible profile I am missing?

Hi +David S, In fixtures, double click the 455z profile, in the right corner of the settings click on the 3d option drop down menu, select moving head spot and fill in the parameters. This will now put in 3D viewer. Do this for the Slim Par as well!

Hey there. Thanks for the great videos on this software, since it isn't the most user friendly! I have a question: I have been using the same four lights for years now for my light shows. However, one of them has burnt out and I had to replace it with a SIMILAR but not exact duplicate (thanks to them being made in China). The channels for the new fixture are different than the last. For example, the red fader on the old fixture now appears as a master dimmer. I had assumed I could assign the light to the proper DMX assignment and just plug it in and have it function. However, since there is a discrepancy, this won't work. Is there ANY way to get ShowXpress to make this new light work like my old ones without having to revisit and revise literally hundreds of scenes in my light shows? Please say yes...

+ShowXpress Training Yes they do. They are just generic 186 8 channel par cans, according to the seller. I think they are just an update of the older model, putting a master fader at the front of the channel group, thereby moving the other colors down a slot.

Hey Derek, Thanks for sending over the information. From the sounds of it, I think you are out of luck trying to seamlessly integrate your new fixture within your previous scenes. Since the company changed the channel arrangement, your going to have to re-edit your scenes. :/

Hey Jelte, The dmx number to assign to your fixtures is located in ShowXpress - Fixtures . After you import your fixture profiles into ShowXpress, whatever number those profiles start with is the number you assign to your fixture.

Hello Mr Darren got a question about light fixture. I'm building a profile of oversea's lights, where are they store at in showexpress library. When I create new show' s do I have to remake profiles over?

Darryl James the fixture profiles are stored within your project files. These profiles are a txt file. If you create your profiles. Simply just do a file search on your computer with the name and txt extension and your search will find them. Hope this helps!

How are you moving your fixtures with the mouse in 3d view. I have to use the XYZ sliders it takes a long time to move each one.

Hi irgarza52 , To move the fixtures in 3D view. First, Right click and select "Fixture Settings" then select the fixtures you would like to move in the "Fixtures in the stage" column. Once selected, make sure the tab "Position" is selected and you should see the fixtures highlighted in RED with a XYZ yellow line attached. Take your mouse and select the RED box and click and drag to move! Use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out and use the SHIFT key to move position while dragging. Hope this helps!

It looks you have update your Mac to Yosemite. How is that working for you. Have you had any problems. I have not update my Mac yet because I've been looking for someone to say that they work great together. Is there anything I would need to do once I've update my Mac to Yosemite to make it work well with Showxpress? thanks

+Gee Eff Hey Gee, Yes ShowXpress works great on Yosemite! After install you just need to check "Prevent App Nap" under the application "Get Info" settings. Other then that, everything works great!

No specific way, it depends on your setup and how you need it to be wired.

Hey there again I try to add a few fixtures but they were not on the list. So I created them like you said. Now the problem is that I'm not able to see the exact function of the fixture because it's not registered on the software. So my question is..... Will I be able to see them functions when the actual light is connected to the software? Because I was trying to see how it would be before I even buy the lights.

Hey Debbie, If the profile is done correctly and the fixture is plugged in, then you will be able to see the functions of the fixture. What is the fixture called that your looking at?

I use American DJ DP-415 dimmer packs, would they be the fixture that I put in for a 4 channel layout or do I put the individual light in? I am using it for a theatre and they don't have special lighting, they just have regular can lights.

Hey Dustin, You would import the 4 channel Dimmer Pack. Then you would plug your Par Cans in each of the channel plugs. In the editor, you will then select your desired dimmer pack to control the 4 cans. Hope this helps !

That does! Thank you, have you had any issues with the program closing out? I have been using it on a laptop and it keeps closing out when I try to do something? Maybe this is due to my laptop, I am going to try on a desktop but I just didn't know if this is a common problem

Make sure you are running the latest version. There was a few versions that had a lot more crash reports. I don't have any crash problems with latest MAC version.

Darren, I've added two ADJ QuadGem's to my fixtures, but they aren't showing up in 3D mode. All other fixtures show up fine. Suggestions??

Hey Madlife Management! , The ADJ is considered to be a "Special Effect" fixture and 3D view is not able to show special effect fixtures. The 3D view mainly shows Moving heads, moving washes, scanners, par cans, and LED fixtures wiith no beam. Sorry I couldn't fix your problem! Thanks for watching!

Go to FIXTURES, double click on legend Beam 230- Your fixture properties box will open look over to 3D VIEW settings. You should see a drop down menu that says "Not in 3D View" Click that and a drop down menu will open and select moving head spot.
