"Khatu" means Sour. This is a traditional recipe from South Gujarat. Its Taste Sweet, Sour and Spicy and its taste the best with rice. There are two very popular version of khatu, one is made with green moong and toor dal and second is made with vaal dal and toor dal. I already shared Moong Khatu recipe you can find its link under this description. You can consider Khatu as one of Gujarati Style Dal but its also served with roti or chapati.
Here is the list of ingredients you willl need to make vaal khatu:
1 Cup Vaal Dal
1/2 Cup Broken Pigeon Pea
1 tsp Oil
1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
4-5 Curry Leaves
1/8 tsp Asafoetida
2 Dry Red Chilies
1/4 tsp Dry Fenugreek Seeds
1/2 Cup Water
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Ginger Paste
1 tsp Garlic Paste
1 tsp Green Chilly Paste
2 tsp Jaggery
Salt to Taste
1/8 tsp Red Chilly Powder
1 tsp Coriander Cumin Powder
1/4 Cup Water
2 tsp Tamarind Water
1 tbsp Fresh Coriander
