NO BUT WAIT, has anyone noticed that in the nashandra battle, SHE enters the fog gate to challenge you. Not the other way around. As if you are the boss that she is here to overcome. Through the whole game, it is thought that the player is the traveler who pushes through everyone else in the land...just like they (the other in game bosses) thought they were. We become the next monarch, only to sit at a throne and await future enemies. Essentially, by the end of the game, the player has become one of the bosses.

I personally have no problem with the "Katana fags" predictable movesets aside. They do deal a considerable amount of damage even on heavy armoured players. And since most katana users have 99 adp they get really annoying to hit. Just parry them is my advice. I can see why people complain at Katana users. They are quite bullshit. 🤣🤣🤣 Dark Souls fans make the best memes. On a different note, Shanalotte’s not taking the souls, she’s using them to power _us._ How else do we get stronger? And all while she gains nothing except for a further hope of finally being free of her curse. Others before us have failed, but we keep going. She’s faced failure so many times and yet still keeps hopeful (as reflected in all her dialogue). She’s placing it all on us, and so she’s giving it all to us.

I kind of laughed at that line, because it isn't really true. In DS2, powerstancing twin maces is one of the most powerful PvE setups I've made. Crushing damage is OP compared to the other types when dealing with most enemies. As for PvP, the sun sword has worked better for me than any other weapon. It's faster than most people seem to realize, and it's got tremendous stat scaling.

Edit: Lucatiel is one of my favorite souls characters because she embodies the undead curse so completely to the point that it acts like Dementia or Alzheimers. It really got me when she starts talking about her mission after recognizing you and then says "...who are you?" In an unsettled voice like she'd forgotten You were there. Interesting that you say anything after dark souls 2 should address the fact that there is now someone immune to hollowing who can in theory cure it. In Dark souls 3, hollowing seems to be easily curable. Certain items do it along with people. Could it be that our character in Dark Souls 2 came up with a cure after all?

The fourth DLC: "Katana of the Forgotten Ruler" Features all our answers: - Why are Katanas op - Who was the catarina knight, who almost gathered all crowns and left one piece of equipment in every Old Kingdom for future wanderers (and did he know that the cycle could not be broken? Did he succeed in his journey?) - Who broke all the red and blue eye orbs and drove them into extinction? - How does Darkdiver Grandahl teleport between the dark gates? And how did he get up and down all these ledges without a bonfire? - Where is Kirk's armor? (seriously, someone mustve kept this shit, cause it looked AWESOME) - What happened to all the Primordial Serpents? Have they been killed by the person that crushed the Lordvessel? - Is there actually a purpose in lighting the map in Majula? - Did the Rotten actually place all these pesky statues in the Gulch and the Gutter? Did he leave his cave or command some hollows to do it? - WHY IS THERE A RANDOM ANT IN THE GUTTER? These and many more questions shall be answered for another mere 30€

I'm pretty positive that Shanalotte is the reincarnation of King Seeker Frampt. I will provide 3 proofs: 1) They're both imperfect dragons. Frampt is a Primordial Serpent, serpents being, according to Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, "imperfect dragons and symbols of the undead". The Emerald Herald is "born of the dragons, contrived by men". She was a creation of Aldia, but she came out wrong. He was trying to create a dragon firekeeper, one who would cast away the shackles of fate, but "fate could not be bested" and she came out imperfect. 2) Shanalotte, as Frampt, pushes the player to link the fire and to replace the current decrepit monarch. 3) Both are a representation of gluttony. Again using the description of the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring: "Its habit (the serpent's) of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony." You can feed Frampt with souls and equipment. You "feed" the Herald with Souls, and she keeps telling you to "seek larger and more powerful souls".

Both games have interesting lore, unique to their world. Every place in DarkSouls 2 has a lore, a story, and every place in DarkSouls 1 has a lore and story. The same with the bosses. The Huntman's Corpse, Dragon Aerie, etc have their lore just like Brightstone and Ash Lake in DarkSouls 1 have theirs. I just don't understand where this idea of "lack of lore" in DarkSouls 2 comes from. The only difference is that its less "darker" and more focused on humans/kingdoms, rather than the giant Kingdom of Gwyns in DS1.

Where as I like the combat system, (That's not saying I like the way the enemies respond to said combat system, or that I like the attack power on the weapons).. anyways, now I care more about the world.. although honestly now that its come full circle jerk, um, I'm thinking fromsoftware wasn't thinking as long term as they should have about this series story/world wise.. and painted themselves into a corner to some degree. Like where as if they listened to there American audience more.. they may have pulled off a triple A title game, akin to monster-hunter popularity.. instead there going to do like they did with the armored core series and make a bunch of 'B movie title' games..

Theoretically, the crowns being blessed could grant immunity from hollowing to four. Vendrick didn't bless you, he blessed the four crowns, those of the Sunken King, Iron King and Ivory king... and the one which once sat upon his own head. Imagine then if there was an ending in which you decided not to link the fire... and instead granted immunity to yourself and three others. Four great Kingdoms dedicated to destroying the curse, picking up where Vendrick left off. Four powerful warriors, tested as you were... to make sure they were truly worthy of such a power. It would certainly be interesting... and if they were to ever create Dark Souls III, I would love to see this as a basis... especially since it could involve a permanent cure to the Curse, perhaps by entering the underground area where the first flame was born... by stealing yet more power... and giving humanity a permanent solution to their fate.

Maybe the fact that the Last Monarch(the protagonist in DS2) has earned this title and power through such a dangerous and difficult quest,making him/her wise and able to resist the corruption such a great power can create in a man's soul... ...or maybe he'll become one of the most dangerous beings in the world,the one we will have to defeat in DS3 if it ever comes to exist...who knows That's one of the greatest points of Souls games: it's all open to interpretation

Well, just like Vaati said :o you don't find a cure for the curse, you just find a way to prevent hollowing after death. To cure the curse would be to become mortal again, and stop feeding on souls. Dahpie Honestly I think people exaggerate how overpowered katanas are. Maybe the chaos blade is, and maybe their counter damage could do with a nerf, but for the most part, I think katanas are pretty balanced. IMO, the most unbalanced things in PvP are Soul Memory and the ridiculous 1-shot critical damage heavy weapons can do. Going past the 150-175 range should never be necessary and only Climax should be able to 1-shot a player with any reasonable amount of health.

Leet Jexel I will did throw some examples of why katanas are broken. Poise being different means katana thrusters can stop your moves 90% of the time. I think you're onto something there *puts conspiracy hat on* - both the Bride of Ash and the Silent Oracle are friendly in their own way, in the case of they don't directly attack you. BUT the only issue I can point out in the Shanalotte part is that going back, she was talking about how she may have been created with the Giant's souls or something like that since she was supposedly supposed to be a "cure" for when Vendrick and his brother were doing those experiments trying to bring back dragons and see how they lived forever (before being gang-banged) but the whole Sisters of Dark thing does mix it up a bit. Perhaps she is a pathological liar? She obviously knows a great deal about Nashandra and her goal, and she always seems watchful in her own way of you, so that does go back to supporting the argument of her being a Child of Dark and her insatiable thirst for souls. I don't know, she is a character I automatically want to like and trust, but some of the stuff going on here is pretty shady. On a side note, I want to talk about her title: The Emerald Herald. A herald is normally considered one that would be a sign as if something was about to happen, great. The color green symbolizes *renewal and rebirth* and (looking it up) *...it must avoid the tendency to become a martyr.* "It loves to observe, and therefore relates to the counselor, the good listener, the social worker." and looking up Emerald "It is a Seeker of Love and a Revealer of Truth, inspiring an ongoing search for meaning, justice, compassion and harmony." I believe that she is in a way an opposite, since she is using the souls she collects for "good" - AKA strengthening us. Sure, it could be for her own benefit, but currently what is there to gain? She seems like a Lady Justice, "...inspiring an ongoing search for meaning."

Most people don't have it because there's not a good enough reason to yet (plus by now most of us without money to burn know not to pay out the nose for the privilege of being beta testers for the new system). Bloodbourne is coming out late enough for most of the initial kinks in the system to be worked out, and if it's even half as good as it looks can definitely be a system seller. So, since the economy hasn't completely blown up yet, just because you and I are too poor to afford it, doesn't mean they can't make a solid profit off it, because people will buy PS4s when they have a good enough reason to, even if they haven't right now. For me, that system seller might be Silent Hills, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. Once I've got the damned thing, buying other games is way easier. (I love Dark Souls as a universe. I don't have good enough twitch reflexes to be very good at it, damn being raised in PC adventure game purgatory.)

David Pagan-Brown Dark souls (1 and 2) are available on 3 different consolles, while bloodborne is only for Ps4, which costs a bunch of money and has been released this year. On top of that there aren't already enough exclusives to make many people buy it, so I' m quite sure that Dark Souls should have a higher priority.
@rein7046
@rein7046 9 жыл бұрын
To be honest I lost all interest in buying Bloodborne the second I found out it would only be for the PS4. It's not like I hate Sony, but I really hate the concept of game consoles in general. They used to be good, but now that PC gaming exists consoles only serve to divide the community into separate corners and make extra money from people buying multiple copies of the game just to be able to play with their friends. Having a particular game exclusive to one console is really an outdated concept and I think the sales numbers for Bloodborne will prove that. (Not saying the game will be bad, I am sure it will be great, but only 35-55% of the fanbase will be able to play it.) Buying a new console is a very significant investment when for around $400 more you can buy yourself a fairly high end gaming computer that also allows you to do things other than play games and won't be outdated as soon as the next console comes out because you can always buy a new CPU or GPU and put it in your computer for a fraction of the cost of a new console. On the brighter side, if Bloodborne is as good as everyone expects it to be than there are plenty of people who would be willing to work on an unofficial PC crack of the game (Myself included) and we will all have our chance to play it.

I think you failed to emphasize, that there is actually a difference between darkness and void in this series. Darkness does not necesarrily have to be a bad thing. Thus to not link the fire, much like DS3 allows you to do, is probably the best thing to do. For fire here and there is alright as long as there is no single dominant fire attempting at manipulation and destruction (like Manus or Nashandra, but also the 4 dominant souls recycled throughout the series). This then, in principle, is also symbolized through the void and it's black tendrills seeking greed with greed like those who protected the first flame with fear of what happens when it does go out. The DS3 managed to pull of an ending, where it's mentioned that small embers will come regardless of the first flame's disappearence, most likely symbolizing that the biggest misconception of the characters in the series, is that the first flame is the only flame to be had, which seems to not be the case.
@SnafuFourTwo
@SnafuFourTwo 3 жыл бұрын
While I don’t completely agree with the first half, you definitely opened my mind up by stating there could be other flames, alluding that “THE” Flame could easily just be one of many. Or in Souls analogy: just because you embrace the dark, it doesn't have to mean you will have to become eternally hollow or hollow at all (which is what vaati mentions in the video). But I dunno, I enjoy metaphor and logic, it's just after spending some time with the series (especially DS3) I feel like this analogy could be wrong. I do think it was always about tyranny and freedom in one way or another. But this is a theme very common in many good narratives. At any rate, thank you for commenting. I didn't know there were people who even read my comment, let alone someone who cared to respond with a sound judgement.

When you enter a DLC, you go trough a snake portal. So you travel to the past, just to find answers? Why snakes? Why Black Gulch and Shrine of winter? Did the dragons poison (Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon) effect Black Gulch & Rotten? Does Sinh have something to do with the Slumbering dragon shield? Why is the Old Chaos in Eleum Loyce? Why did the Ivory King have 7 pets? Why did we not see other characters, who had some effect on the game? (Mytha, the Baneful queen before she was a monster, Eygil, Yorgh etc.) What is Yore? If you read all those questions, i would want some answers. You can also tell your own questions :)

Why do all DLC's start with an area filled with these weird statues that vaguely resemble Gaints? Why do they also all have messages that read "This message is being channeled from somewhere far away."? Did Vendrick place these here to somehow help him get the other three crowns he needed to overcome the curse?

Dark souls 2 compared to the first DS and Demon's has so many loose ends and plot holes. In the previous games there is always some type of connection or description about a character or plot-line it is never a concrete one, but it serves as a foundation for the lore.DS2 introduces so many character plot lines kingdoms but they completely abandon some of them and that just gives the feeling of incompleteness. for example what did Vendrick stole from the giants? why is Ornstein at the church? what is the connection with the giants - archtree -dragons? just to mention some, it feels like a different team made DS2 they could just called the game Dragons souls or something like that.

J.Santiago state your evidence that it wont... clearly its still being patched, expansions called DLC still coming out... even if they add another game, it doesnt really mean that DS2 will die either it is very likely that the game story will be on hold until closer to summer, or even that another dlc will come before feb... so complaining that it got plotholes contributes nothing at all

Not to trample on the poignant image of an eternity of solitude you painted, but you do have four crowns that stop the wearer hollowing. If your character happened to get lonely, they could just hand over the three they weren't using to others. Which, conveniently, would result in four Great Ones again.

Vaati as always the video is brilliant. I really think you have some sort of gift for being albe to combine the elements of the story so well and spin these long threads within the story of the game. I also don't know any other lore channel which made dark souls 1 and dark souls 2 so much more enjoyable. Not that it wouldn't be a good game without your work but for me your videos let me experience the games in a more magical way. So thank you really much for that and please keep it going. By the way what weapon is that at 10:38? It looks like the red iron twinblade but yours looks different.

First off I really enjoy your videos! I've been searching your channel for a video on Raime and Velstadt yet I haven't really been able to find one. I do have some thoughts on the beaf between these two fantastic characters though. Sort of long but here it goes: The game tells us that Raime was deemed a traitor and that he after his defeat by the hand of Velstadt came to the brume tower in search of greater power and that he found true purpose through a newfound mother. This newfound mother being Nadalia the bride of ash (nothing states this as fact, but since you get a fragment of Nadalias soul upon defeating him it is heavily suggested). Raimes shield is called "Rebel's Greatshield" and in my mind this suggest he rebelled against something (if not why not call it Raimes Greatshield, or even Traitors Greatshield?). He was at some point considered the right/left arm of the king which obviously must mean that he was as dedicated and loyal to Vendricks cause as Velstadt was, but then something changed. Though Velstadt was the one who beat him into exile I find it hard to believe that he rebelled against Velstadt. Rebelling against another knight who just carries out the command of his king doesn't seem to add up, which leads me to believe that he rebelled against Vendrick. Vendrick and his brother Aldia were both searching for a way to end the curse, an honourable cause needless to say. Their methods however were anything but honourable. In Aldias mansion you can see the results of Aldias attempts, one grotesque abomination after the other. Aldia was conducting experiments on humans which in the end lead to him being exiled to his mansion by Vendrick (or so the game suggest, yet it also tells us that Aldia CHOSE to exile himself). If we consider the option that it was Aldias choice rather than Vendricks command, this could mean that Vendrick was actually the worst of the two. Could it be that Raime discovered Vendricks acts of cruelty and went to his most trusted friend Velstadt to overthrow the king and put an end to the madness? Velstadt declined and even gave his friend quite the beating before deeming him a traitor. Raime then went to the brume tower in search of greater power, his purpose being overthrowing a mad king. Raime found Nadalia in the brume tower and she granted him the power he needed, however the power recieved from Nadalia corrupted him, and thus his "true purpose" mentioned in the game was actually not Raimes original purpose but rather Nadalias purpose. I hate to believe that Raime just went darkside all of a sudden, abandoning his king and his friend just for the sake of gaining more power himself. I like the idea of Raime actually being the good guy, yet without making Velstadt a bad guy. Loyalty is never a bad attribute, in this scenario Velstadt was just loyal to the wrong guy.

Am I the one who thinks Dark and Light could live harmoniously? The Ivory Crown all but outright says it's possible. Alsanna is all of Manus's fears personified, just like Nashandra personified his lust for power. And just like her sisters, Alsanna sought out a powerful soul initially to gain power. But unlike her sisters, her nature made her perhaps the most dangerous. Fear is something that causes you to lash out at anyone and anything around you, even those you hold dear. Alsanna personified her "father's" fears. If things had gone differently, she might have gone rampant and continued to consume more and more souls, even those of her sisters, all in a desperate bid to control the fears inside her, inevitably in vain. But that didn't happen. Instead, she found the Ivory King, a Lord with a powerful soul, and she found someone who gave her the end of her fears: comfort. And thus Alsanna never let her nature command her, because this king, even as he (probably) knew her true nature, kept by her side. IMHO, Alsanna eventually fell in love with the Ivory King, and he reciprocated that love, and Eeleum Loyce prospered. When the Ivory King fell to Chaos, Alsanna didn't choose to find comfort in the Dark. Instead she stayed loyal to her Lord, whether out of love, respect, or some sense of debt from his mercy, I don't know (I like to think it was the first), and stayed in Eleum Loyce to watch over his kingdom, even as it froze over. The bond between Alsanna and the Ivory King is proof that Light and Dark needn't live in constant opposition to each other, and that a medium can be found. tl;dr Alsanna was fear personified, but found comfort in the Ivory King, fell in love, and never let her nature rule her because of him. Light and Dark in harmonious coexistence.

I think the crowns are just one big scheme by Vendrick. You go through all these tests (getting the kinship, the Ashen Mist Heart, the Ring) and kill Nashandra in order to sit upon the Throne of Want, which is said by Shanalotte to be the kiln ("you, who link the fire"). So, you go through all that to prove you have a strong soul, which is what you need to act as fuel for the flame. However, when you go hollow, your soul weakens - Gwynn needed a replacement as he started to hollow and couldn't keep the flame burning eternally. Voila, bring on the crowns. Now you don't hollow, ever. You can sit on that throne and burn for eternity, provided somebody superglue one of the crowns to your skull.
@sammorin254
@sammorin254 9 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good one, actually. But I always had the notion that if you link the fire, all the souls you've gotten would slowly burn along with it until you're back to soul level 1 and then the fire stops. You know what I mean?

TheSeth256 From a story standpoint, my suggestion would be that it either burns the souls you have on you, because of some mystical fire shit that just burns every soul it touches, or if you really have absolutely none, you burn for like 1 or 2 hours and everyone gets pissed at you, either way would lead to the same results because of the endless cycle thing. Also, maybe we'll never know for sure. It's just my idea of how it happens that I think makes sense.

Vaati, your videos are amazing and you really know how to catch the viewer. I don't know if you gotten this theory before, but I would love to see you make a video lore about Manus, how he could possibly be the furtive pygmy, who had a lot of influence over humanity just like Manus did before he was resurrected, and how much influence he has now in Dark souls 2. I feel like he is one of the main reasons for the dark being so deep within the game. Maybe that's why the Dark Queens want the crown of the first flame, so they can use it to bring their father back with the crown, not only reborn, but reborn as a human with the perfect balance of dark and light. The last crown stops you from hollowing, it would be a perfect idea for the queens to take it for their father, but it's all speculation also haha.
