Scoutcrafter, I have to say, these Friday episodes are always fantastic. When I was working my old job around 2018/2019, I despised it and always looked forward to coming home at the end of the week and watching your episodes. I always loved hearing you say, “you made it through another week” and that gave me the motivation to keep going. Thank you for that!

Sorry to hear about "Pipes". We will say prayer for him.Over the last 3 or 4 years we lost 3 cats." LG" the father of the cats,"Chibby" and "Buckie". (My granddaughter named them) We found out they were licking the bathroom sink drain. It must have been sweet to them or ?.They always had plenty of fresh water in 2 water bowles as well as alot of food.We miss all of them greatly. We still have the " mother" "Shyler" and one 21:15 of the remaining so called kittens,"Spot".He has a big "black" spot under his mouth on and all grey cat with white markings. He is a gigantic "TOM" cat.

My Grama made a pet out of a squirrel, it stayed outside most of the time and she was so convinced one of the neighbors was going to lure him into their house and eat him that she took "Yogi" over to a guy that had an animal sanctuary to live out his days.........I remember Gordon (the sanctuary guy) had an Arctic Fox over there, such a beautiful animal to see in person.

I have a set of old Vaco nutdrivers. They are pretty beat up especially the more commonly used 5/16,1/4, and 3/8. I hate when somebody uses pliers on the handles. Glad your kitty found his way home! They are more loved than some family members. Nice job on the screwdriver. Its definitely no myth about tightening all three sides of a keyed chuck. On a keyless chuck I will sometimes , if I get slippage put the drill on a higher clutch setting and hold the chuck and spin it. Hold it tight! It will give some added grip to the bit. Great video

Get well Pipes. Animals leave a huge mark on you. I lost a cockatoo back in June that was with me for 33 years. Tut was 63 years old. I have a love-hate for keyless chucks. On smaller drills they are fine. On the bigger drills not so much. Have a Porter Cable 1/2 drill and the keyless chuck was garbage. I replaced it with a keyed chuck and now it holds much better. Same for drill presses. Keyed chucks only. Found a ratcheting double sided key from Harbor Freight and it works pretty good plus it easier on your hand. Happy New Year John.

I had a feral cat that started to come around. He was wild, you couldn't get within 10' of him without him running and hissing. Eventually I caught him in a live trap and took him to the vet to have some optional parts removed. After that, he calmed down. It took about a year for him to let me pet him and in another year he would jump on my lap and sleep. He turned into the nicest cat. The only thing was he wouldn't let you pick him up. He died a little over a year ago. Still miss him. Hope that Pipes recovers.

Vaco and the Xcelite tools I think were made in the same factory for a period of time. The roll up kit is the Xcelite 99 series which are great. Update, I forgot that Klein tools has owned Vaco since 1986.

From Klein tools history page 1986 Klein acquired Vaco Products Company, of Jonesville, MI, a major manufacturer of screwdrivers, nut drivers, hex-key wrenches, electrical terminals and connectors, plus other related equipment. The VACO tools I have were made in Chicago along with an old catatlog of everything they made; a direct competitor to Xcelite. I believe they are now part of Klein but not sure if being manufacturered in Illinois or Texas. Those on Amazon look very “offshore”. Glad that your kitty made it back, outside ones have it rough, especially in the city. My DeWalt drills, have keyless chucks, and when I tighten in the drill bit, I do turn the chuck back and you can actually feel the chuck snap click, since I have started doing that I have never had a bit come loose since, I found this out from a friend of mine a few years ago, all I can say is, “ it works for me” 😊. As far as 3 jaw chucks with keys,if one does not need to be dead accurate, one key spot will get it done, I will say that if accuracy is necessary, when what you are chucking it into place, if you take that piece and do what I call rattling/ jiggling the part in the chuck as you tighten it helps center the part and center it in the chuck on all three jaws, then you tighten all three points of chucking, the thing is, all surfaces must be clean and burr free. Try it out, you will more than likely find you will have some slack taken up on the chuck at the last two chuck key points, but not as much if you make the effort to rattle/ jiggle the bit/ part as you put in place on the first turn on the chuck key. Glad the kitty came home, and your little buddy at the end of video, looks pretty healthy also, thanks for the video sir.

So I have a Milwaukee cordless drill and sometimes when I’m diagnosing an engine I put a 3/8 adapter into the end of it so I can spin the flywheel with a socket but after a few minutes the chuck would always loosen up, I always thought I was just never getting it tight enough until I spoke with a Milwaukee tool salesman who said get as tight as you can and then give it click backwards and that will stop happening. Now, naturally, I was very skeptical, but I have to say it definitely fixed my problem! this was a few years ago and I’ve had good luck ever since

Timely start John, I just had to take my old dog to the vet for the last time (19th December). She was 18 years old and had a hell of a life. I will openly say that that was the worse day I have had, saying goodbye to my friend/shop dog/companion... she definitely had a large part of my heart and I am still expecting her to be around. And I cried very openly. Anyway... life goes on (that is me trying to pretend I am getting over it). Chuck wise, I have only ever used keyless chucks till it clicks once but I still like my keyed chucks.. Looking forward to another patina covered/pitted/seized and poor mans fleamarket year in 2024

Hi Scout and thanks for another year of fantastic videos and I’d be proud to hang that screwdriver on my rack. Thanks for the acknowledgment, you could have just said “some commenters” but no, you always give people credit. I’m totally with you on tightening keyed chucks in the drill or the lathe if something needs to be tight, all three jaws get tightened. Another example, even on a self centring 3 jaw lathe chuck, I notice using a dial indicator that tightening one jaw a little more than the others can bring the work piece into centre. I’m so glad Pipes turned up as Lea and I really understand what you mean. Happy New Year from a hot down under. Stuart 🇦🇺

I worked in electronics manufacturing for over 30 years. I knew of Vaco, but they were considered cheap knockoffs of Xcellite. Glad the little tough customer made it home. I have Vaco nut drivers. I really need to gather all my screwdrivers and find out what I have and what I need to replace. I wonder if one of those scrapers with different tips would have one that would fit in the grooves of a screwdriver handle? Don't have one myself. As for drills some of mine will go one click forward but if you hold tight and run the drill closed it does it by it's self. The older more used ones are more likely according to my test to need that extra bit of tightening. Going backwards would just loosen it.

Hey, John the Scoutcrafter. Here's hoping you have a good 2024. Good shows on the keyless & keyed chucks, last one and this one. It just makes sense that you can better lock the chuck when using all three locking points. I've never seen a keyless chuck that locks by a reverse maneuver. That just doesn't make sense. I have trouble locking them by just holding in my hand. I have to wear a heavy duty glove or else it "rope burns" the hand. I prefer to lock them with a glove that has some sort of rubber grip on the palms. Even then, I can sometimes get my wrist twisted if not careful doing it.

It is tough losing a pet but I am glad that pipes made it back home and he is recovering. I remember Vaco Tools and they were very nice to use. The screwdriver looks great and the handle turned out nice. Thanks for sharing this and have a Happy New Year.

I used to have some of those color coded nut drivers. The red and amber. Those were the ones I used all the time. I should go buy another set.

Hey John, I have 3 Vaco screwdrivers that I've had for 50 years and still in use. Have a Safe and Happy New Year 🎉

Great vaco. I've always had had to tighten all three holes on a chuck. Otherwise it slips. I'm a smaller man. Safety 1st. Never heard of back click? Glad pipes is ok!!! I use my lava lamps instead of lanterns. Fl frowns on fire items in usually dry winters. In stead of fireworks, one of those color changing bulbs are popular here. See you next year.
