Sorry guys I've been busy and sort of lost interest after I realized finishing the challenge would be trivial. My main goal was to create a fun challenge for others to try and it seems a lot have actually completed it. I may come back to it at some point, but I need a break from KZbin. My buddies at work and I decided to start up another D&D campaign and I've decided to give being the DM a shot so I've spent the last couple of weeks preparing.

Yes, since they are resistant to Dark Magic. It is clear he stopped the series because the Four Kings cannot be defeated in one-hit without massive cheese. Dark Bead doesn't take them past 50% health, so not really the I win spell that he makes it out to be.

Just finished my first playthrough of Dark Souls a few minutes ago. Three ripostes with the Hornet Ring and Gwyn was destroyed. I've watched a ton of your stuff, and I just wanted to say thanks for all the pro tips you share with us. DS was a journey, not to mention one of the most stressful, difficult games I've ever played. I think I'm done with it for a while, at least until DS2... Looking forward to more of your vids.

Just wanted to say Vageta, you're an amazing commentator and definitely very good at both Dark Souls and Demon Souls. I love all of your content and I believe you deserve a lot more in the way of subscribers. I've seen plenty of other KZbinrs that have around 20 times or more subscribers, but the content they deliver is mediocre at best. Not trying to put down other KZbinrs, just trying to make a point that you are definitely a very excellent commentator and I love your videos. Keep it up.

Also a Factotum with a dip into swordsage at the right levels to grab a few maneuvers and stances is a great choice. A level 5 dip gets you level 2 maneuvers and stances, waiting till level 7 gives you level 3. Get assassin's stance and/or child of shadow and you have a character that is better than a rogue of the same level.

Yes, but only because of the 2 hit clause. Some bosses require those lava pools to be killed in one attack, but could easily be killed with a 2nd attack.

You need chaos storm, and for that you have to kill Quelaag. The remaining lava pools is what is able to do more damage than just the fire pillars themselves. That's specifically why I waited until after Quelaag to do that kill.

To get rid of the clams, otherwise they follow you in and make it more difficult. Once the fog wall is up you don't have to worry about them anymore.

I was thinking about making a single video on Temple of Elemental Evil for d&d fans who may have missed it. It's not as flashy or popular as NWN was, but it's very faithful to the material it was created from. It's close enough to the actual rules that you can use it to teach yourself a lot about the game. Unfortunately it was buggy as hell but the Circle of Eight mods fix this issue and added a ton of content to boot. I'd recommend it for anyone who wants a tactical and atmospheric RPG to play

The Tome of Battle gives characters maneuvers and stances which are kind of like magic but when used properly turn a melee character into a boss. To give you an idea there is a maneuver the shadow hand path can get in the ToB which allows them to teleport 50ft through shadows as a swift action allowing them to full attack and it doesn't provoke. There are also some maneuvers that if you use them you're probably going to kill the person either with damage or special effects.

I'd say for someone who doesn't understand the 3.5 ruleset that it'd be plenty hard but for someone familiar with it then the challenge is what you make of it. You're allowed to start with a party of 5 and have some NPC's join, however I just made a trio and am running through it with that. Cool thing is it's a major strategy game. Improved trip, combat expertise, metamagic, grease, flanking, etc.. all works so you can really focus on it. It's borked by default but the Co8 mod fixes all of it.

I reassured them that in a couple levels their Cleric and Wiz/Rogue would be outshining me on a regular basis. They're not optimizers persay, but you don't really have to be with a tier 1 class and choose the right spells. For some DM's that only do low level games it usually appears that melee is stronger, but once you hit about level 6 it changes rapidly and by 4th level spells it's not even close anymore.

Not officially but I'm aware of it in general. It's basically 3.5 with some changes though I've heard mixed reviews about if it ends up being better or worse. It's pretty popular right now, though a lot of people play with their own custom house rules in order to balance/fix their 3.5 game so to them PF probably isn't necessary.

Yep I fell in love with ToB and is probably the only 3.5 book that I've read cover to cover in it's entirety. I love the idea behind Swordsages but my favorite build is a mix of both Swordsage and Warblade. They have pretty good symmetry if used correctly. Sadly I've never been able to play high enough to shout out "Five-Shadow Creeping Ice Enervating Strike!"

TO = total optimization or sometimes referred to as CO, complete optimization. Means pushing the rules to their limits, often taking advantage how a rule is written even if it seems ridiculous. PO = practical optimization. Meaning to optimize in a manner that adheres strongly to the the rules as intended. None of your build relies on shaky ground rulings that would make the DM throw a book at you. ToB = Tome of battle, a book that basically gives melee characters their own form of magic.

Intelligence, the magic adjustment of your catalyst, bellowing dragoncrest ring, any global damage buffs such as power within/red tearstone/dragon armor roar. Dusk Crown does as well I think.

It's in dungeonscape. All skills as class skills, d8 HD and his class features all revolve around intelligence. He doesn't get sneak attack persay, however he can emulate it by burning inspiration points. He get's to cast spells and do all other cool things, but it relies on a player knowing the game well. I played a swordsage in our previous campaign who used a spiked chain(shadow hand weapon). Due to his relative power the group said no ToB this game.. Made me a sad panda.

You don't have to save dusk for the one in the Dukes' Archives staring at the globe, all you have to do is have Artorias of the Abyss Dlc. The one in the forest that drops the girl in armor, you have to help Siegmeyer on his quest for that golem to show up.

Docking points for failing to one-shot minibosses wouldn't really make any sense though, since if there's no reward for them and only potential loss, people would just never kill them. Or if it's mandatory, leave them for as late as possible.

I know it’s like 3 years later, but I just discovered this video series. Personally, rather than docking points, I feel perhaps just limit miniboss points to one per miniboss type. After all there’s very little point to one-shotting your second Armored Boar or Golden Crystal Golem once you’ve proven your ability to kill them in one hit on your first encounter. This would limit the points more also follows in the spirit of the rule that bosses who later appear as regular enemies don’t add points when you kill the regular enemy version. I think the first kill is the only kill that gives points.

For those used to using splat books it may be a bit limited, but the good part is the rules are for the most part translated well. NWN2 with some of the mods replicates a large portion of the splat books, including PrC classes, but none of it matters all that much because it's not a true turn based game so certain aspects of the rules just don't work. ToEE is core only but it gives a much closer experience to a PnP game.

Next seems an improvement over 4.0 as it went backwards, but it's too early to tell. As far as a video on d&d rules, unlikely. However I fired up ToEE the other night with the latest Co8 patch and was having some fun again. This game seems to capture 3.5 rules and tactics much closer than NWN or the others as it's truly turn based. Unfortunately it's core only, but it's still fun nonetheless play a game where the rules are fairly strictly adhered too and you can pull off some wicked tactics.

My streamers and I figured out that it is in fact mathematically possible to take out Manus with Fire Tempest, You need to hit manus 3 times with it, and one of the hits needs to be a counter. But it has proven extremely difficult so far.

It's bugged. Just login and sit in that area for at least 10 minutes without dying and they should eventually go away on their own. Literally sit there, don't run around to other areas or anything just stay in the one that's infected and wait it out. Whenever you die or enter another area the timer resets.

It's for PtDE. Whether you have the dlc or not it shows up, but it won't drop the pendant if you don't own the dlc.

I will have to remember that and test it out sometime. Sadly my group has had some dm troubles and so we haven't been able to stick with a campaign for too long but the last one we had was in a d20 warhammer 40k game my friend made my char and a friends became gods and could nearly one shot any enemy, I may have to see some of your low level builds some time they sound amazing. I haven't been playing for a real long time so I'm still learning all the ins and outs of characters.

Exactly. Sticking to core only to "keep out the cheese" actually makes the power gap worse. Clerics, Wizzies and especially Druids have enough power in core to break a campaign already, while the other classes need to take things from splat books in order to even stay somewhat relevant. We're doing a rotating DM game so the story will go in crazy places. I got some funny looks our first night when my Level 3 spirit lion totem, whirling frenzy Barb 1/Ranger 2 killed an Ogre in one round.

True, it's just a suggestion on my part. But it still constraints your points from them and your ability to abuse mini-bosses for quick leveling and stat gain. The problem still remains with out-leveling albeit failures. Say I accumulate -10 points, I have lost points simply because I chose a wrong build/strat. If I change that, I will not be able to redo the parts I failed and I'll need to restart everything. Somehow negative points don't feel right from my experience of this game.

I only started playing a couple years ago on a whim. I was out drinking with a bunch of guys from work and we started talking about video games, specifically RPG's. I mentioned that I had always loved the lore and art from D&D but never had a chance to play it and 3 of the guys got fired up and instantly demanded that we start playing. The crown and the bellowing dragoncrest ring boost magic madly. But the most important is to use the right catalyst. Google "magic adjustment dark souls wikispaces" to know which catalyst matches with your level of INT. And yeah, more INT = more damage, but only if you use the right catalyst.

Pro tip for the Sanctuary Guardian: If you get hit by his stunning breath attack or whatever that is that you dodged at the start, he always does the headbutt attack and you can dodge it every single time. So whenever he does that it's basically free damage.

That's the exact reason we stayed with 3.5 and now Pathfinder. Havent had much time to playtest the D&D:Next. 4.0 just dumbed down the entire system.

Purely hitpoint-wise, he manages to do enough damage to Seath to take out Manus. Of course, Seath is a larger target and much slower, getting hit by a lot of the fire columns. And of course I don't know if Manus has any resistances that would make it even harder.
