Well this is not true in all Audi's, I think this is just something of a big engine in a relatively small car. With a 2.0 TFSI or 1.8TFSI I can't believe this should be done, neither with the 3.0TFSI (but I don't know if thats delivered in this car). I've got a Polo 1.2 TSI with 300.000km, chain has never been replaced. Car runs on LPdi (liquid phase direct injection of LPG) - no soot produced, so no rock hard particles wearing down the chain I assume... Also It doesnt have a cam adjuster, so one less part to wear either way! But if the chain fails (like many did, this one did get a modified one in the first years as well) - you do not have to remove the engine. (logically imo hahaha)

Cars and engines do break. It's not a common issue - these engines have very few issues so I don't understand how could this turn somebody off. I've seen some VERY unreliable engines running a long time no issues and I've seen some very reliable engines break. That's normal. It's mechanics, moving parts and things go wrong. There is no such thing as an invincible engine or well good luck finding one. As a BMW owner I can tell that all brands I've looked into have problems, some have more others less but there is 0 guarantee for anything in world of mechanics. My 2004 BMW E46 has 440k km on the counter and still running with it's 1st timing chain but still some things could go wrong even today.

Great video! I only wish I could have watched it a couple of months ago. I just did the upper oil sump on my 2015 RS5, so since the engine had to come out, I did the timing chains, guides and tensioners too. It's a big job, but lots of fun. Just for future reference, the cam adjusters do have timing marks on them that are supposed to be lined up with little "half moon" marks on the head. It's not in the Audi repair manual, but apparently it is possible to put the adjusters on in a bad position. I learned about this from a Lamborghini mechanic who works on a lot of Huracans which have a very similar engine.

Main dealers will give anyone that sort of discount if they ask for it. Never ever had issues with decent branded aftermarket Timing chain kits or belts at less than a third of the price usually, in fact the only issue we’ve had was a genuine part failure.

I’m in the middle of doing the carbon clean but with my luck ( nothing I ever accomplished came easy ) I had an injector stuck, I know I should have left it alone but after the extraction tool with the slide hammer shattered the plastics at the end of the injector I kinda had to pull it out. It required a pry bar a vice grip a piece of plywood and penetrating oil believe it or not, I also wanna ask how nervous should I be about the injectors, I didn’t protect them from debris as much as I should have, and I also understand that “cleaning” them with carb cleaner is a waste of time unless you can advise me on something. Love this channel. Love learning about my favourite car maker. Keep it up guys! I have a question tho. We currently own a 2014 a5 coupe and there’s condensation inside the left tail light. I personally think that it is due to the heat from the exhaust which is right underneath it . Would you have any suggestions to fix this? I know it’s minor but I love this car. Thank you!
@jackos9442 жыл бұрын
replace it or take it out and drill a small hole in the bottom of it . shouldn’t condensate even if it’s above the exhaust, the seal around the glass will have failed if it’s really bad
@zacharybeaudoin54742 жыл бұрын
@@jackos944 Thank you for your answer. It ain’t that bad to be honest. I’m just perfectionist with this car hahaha. I’ll take some notes from what you said. Thanks again!

Was looking at grabbing an 2015ish RS5 soon. Seems reasonable to find one with around 50K miles on it for $40k or so. People seem to praise this cars reliability. I think I heard you say timing chain tensioner failure like this is pretty uncommon. Would it be a bad buy for a 50k mile RS5 if the motor would need to come out soon for work like this needing to be done?
@stevenren43362 жыл бұрын
I bought one, 50k miles. Solid so far. I would just maintain it

Hi @VAG Technic, apreciate the videos and the effort you put in - that`s true dedication. I`m also passionate about cars and mecanichs in general - would have a curiosity maybe you can shed some ligt on the topic:) Why do diesel cars only have Tubors and none has a supercharger - at least I dont know any audis from 2005 onwards with supercharger on diesel engine - is there any limitation on whyt they put them on petrol ones? Thenk you! thunbs up

Here in most of the U.S. an emissions test would just be connecting to the OBD2 to see all the monitors have completed. I would have just gutted the cats and tossed on some O2 sensor spacers. Problem solved.

good video good info. job cost alot because people are lazy. learn to do it yourself if possible. get to know someone in the trade and it doesn't cost much if you can get trade prices. just replaced oem turbos which cost 5k each from the dealer (stealer). so replacing twin turbos would cost me 10k for parts 5 k labour. i did it myself cost me 3k new oem parts (2 turbos, intake and exhaust cams plus timing chain kit) labour done myself. about a year pass now no oil or coolant consumption no issues at all and i push the ride too. people gota learn or keep paying the massive bill.
