My wife has 2016 RS3 from new, so here's a bit of advice for anyone who wants to buy such a car: if something goes wrong but you have full Audi service history, even though the car is out of warranty, Audi will do huge discount on the cost of repair as long as you use them to do it. In her case the haldex clutch failed after 48k miles and it was replaced for ~50% of the cost. We had similar story with her previous car which was an Evo, timing chain needed replacement shortly after warranty ran out and it was heavily discounted by mitsubishi.
@toastman6847
@toastman6847 9 ай бұрын
Wont really apply to a lot of poeple though, majority of the owners will modify the car, and any modifications to the car, audi will refuse to give a discount. However it is good to always service it at a main dealer if you dont intend on mods.
@janisberzins3939
@janisberzins3939 9 ай бұрын
That is the '"goodwill" warranty that almost every car manufacturer has. Applied to out of warranty but still low mileage and full dealer service history cars. Of course the powertrain can't be modified in that case. Usually the parts are discounted almost 100% and owner has to pay for the labor only. Most of the time it ends up to be a 50/50 split of the total costs.

Only trouble is you're paying main dealer rates, and they don't have half the knowledge of the guys here. You may get a master tech, but really they are taking a new engine straight of a pallete to fit.

VCDS is a god send. My first purchase after picking up a V8 S5. Paid for itself the only time the car went into limp mode as I was able to diagnose a dead spark plug down to the exact cylinder and, with the aid of a complete set of new Audi plugs, fix the issue in a couple of hours. Super diagnostic tool for VW AUDI Group engines.

Wow, that kind of hurts my heart a little. I can't believe this isn't considered a total loss especially when you look at the interior. Hopefully the owner pursues this in the legal realm with whoever worked on it before you guys looked at it. Cheapest diag costs I've ever seen for a shop of your caliber. The owner probably doesn't realize the work involved in properly diagnosing problems like this. Best news, this wont be your problem and hopefully you wont see it again with a different engine code and a "it doesn't seem to run right" problem.

The morale of the story is, don't buy such a performance car thinking you can run it on a shoestring! Many owners make this mistake and end up paying out thousands in rebuilds and repair, solely due to a lack of proper servicing and maintenance, opting instead to using cheap parts, fluids and cowboy mechanics.

So I took it to Audi of Fairfield CT and they said one of the spark plugs was broken. So they told me it needed an engine. They quoted me $12,000 for a new engine from Audi installed so I was shocked when you said €12,000 for a used engine.😮

This is hectic. I love the RS3 and want to switch my supercharged 3.0tfsi to an RS3 sedan, but seeing this....well...I'd like to know what caused this. I'm hoping this was owner-error and caused by cheap modifications which would negate my worries. Even the BEST cars don't survive BAD owners. Don't be cheap with expensive cars, kids. Those mismatched spark plugs and coilpacks tells me everything I need to know. It also doesn't add up to the "we replaced the pipe" story the owner spinned. I would ask for money UP FRONT before doing any work on cars with sus-owners like this. This reeks of cheap-owner-expensive-car. RIP RS3....you deserved better.

What would be your thoughts on this one, in relation to its failure. Lack of proper and scheduled maintenance, or driven to hard? Thanks David Ps the owner got more than his £50 worth in your diagnosis and advice.

Every engine can fail, even good and strongest engines, some units sometimes fail. But high powered turbo engines, as example, at full boost you fuel supply suddenly cut, then pistons can melt. At full boost, some smaller issue can cause bigger problems, if you are cheap and use secand hand ignitin coils, some random spark plugs etc.
@aidencoder
@aidencoder 9 ай бұрын
This is clearly a case of a car being serviced on the cheap. Mismatched spark plugs and coils packs. I doubt it has had proper oil changes. I own an RS3. These cars are bullet proof and cheap to maintain with the correct maintenance. You can drive them as hard as you want, providing you service accordingly. Sadly, a lot of young posers buy these cars to look flash but don't have the means to look after them.

what a shame - such a nice car and not looked after so that the owner can enjoy it to its full potential. If you're gonna get a car like this, need to ensure that you have the proper mechanic ( YOU Tomaz ) looking after it...there is no way I'd have a car like this and it not get looked at properly - I'm not saying to sell your soul to get it done, but have the cash to to the basics and then the other stuff will be easy as you're keeping on top of the maintenance schedule. My S4 ( 2014 B8 ) was looked after ny me during "lock down" - I'm not a mechanic, never worked on a car before...but youtube was a saviour and I managed to do an oil change, changed the sparks, internal air filter, oil filter, brakes, discs, air intake swap out, by myself getting some basic tools. Things like the drive shaft ( that went ), oil filter ( that went ) and other bits were done by this man in this video - he's a legend - his v direct, which I like, and if I'd not done the basics then my car wouldn't be still running after doing 106,000 miles!!!!

They go for local service to some friend to do the stuff cheap. The lad who bought my RS5 eg. Did such a thing and they even put him none Audi approved oil as it was cheaper. Within 1 month he called me for help so I sent him to the dealer service which I was going (at another city as they are much better there) and finally he paid the price. What I mean is don’t buy a performance car if you are not ready to pay original parts to authorized service. The damage you ll do will cost in the end double if not a whole engine. @@aidencoder you are right, the czgb was still being used even on 2018-2019 audi RSQ3's whilst the rs3 from 2017+ was using the new engine DAZA (2017-2018) or DNWA (2019+). But all 2017+ RS3's had the DAZA engine and not the one in this video which means this is a 2015-2016 Pre facelift rs3 with the virtual cockpit and front bumper conversion from the facelift rs3.

I can't help but notice it looks like a FL car, with virtual cockpit and the FL front end.... but a PFL CZGB engine?? Very odd.
@Mac_F87
@Mac_F87 9 ай бұрын
A more logical reason is it’s a PFL that’s had facelift bumper, headlights and virtual cockpit retrofitted. No doubt it’s crashed and repaired using FL parts.
@ohZyki

I also noticed this too. SO odd. Either it is a facelift rs3 and somehow had the engine replaced with the older CZGB engine but then the ecu wont work with it. So most likely it is a PFL rs3 with a facelift bumper conversion and retro fit virtual cockpit like mac said.

This is why I wouldn't buy a popular, "cheap", fast car. They've all likely been ragged and poorly maintained. Buying one privately is beyond brave imo!

No way the guy was going to repair this car looking at the damage and seeing how it had been serviced with second hand spares that aren't even fully compatible with the car, he will no doubt cheap it out to a back street garage who have zero clue, you might see it back again one day when the guy surrenders to the reality of the repair, another reason i never buy second hand exotica, few people are willing to hand over the money it takes to keeps these cars tip top, buying an Audi RS but spending on it like it is a VW Lupo.

Wait until you get a BMW. You have to not only do preventative maintenance, but you have to do preventative replacement of parts. "Oh that coolant overflow is 4 years old, might be time to replace it", "Oh that radiator neck looks brittle after only a few years, better replace the entire SULEV radiator at great expense just in case", "Oh that transfer case gear might wear out someday, better replace it and refill the fluid with special BMW fluid at $40 a liter." Like this but on and on.

Are you intentionally using the UDS aggressive mode in VCDS? Many times it reads a lot of fantom faults. Not in this case with the lambda obviously 😁

Here is an advice for all of you, after many years on using nearly europea cars only, i had and still have only big issues, although i'm crazy o taking care about my cars. The fact is, the most reliable cars are not the european ones but Toyota and Honda. You can ask the ADAC insurance the biggiest one in Europe about which are the most cars they have to pick up and the answer will be everytime : BMW, MERCEDES, Audi. That is why we an find so many Information on how to repair These cars by ourselves and that is why there are so many mechanics out there who make Videos about These cars. They decided to repair These cars because they have go bad fast and in so they have sutely everetime work,forever. DON'T BUY THOSE CARS!!! THEY ARE A BEAUTIFUL TRASH!!

No. Only the bad ones appear on these videos, like EVERY other car that shows up in similar videos. This engine was abused somehow, mismatched plugs, coils, and probably a really bad tune with a failed injector thrown in for good measure.
