They explained that as well, they said Steve is not a real character, Steve is who you make him to be. Back in the Indev years Steve was just to the community known as The Player, The Miner, The Survivor or The Builder, but once Alex was added Steve was also called The Veteran with Alex being The Companion or The Adventurer, but now with the other 7 defaults Steve is one of nine different stories that exist in the Minecraft world he is no longer the Lone Survivor of the past. Steve to Mojang is whoever you make him out to be, this is just Jack Black Steve he is not Your Steve he is not my Steve, he is not even Mojangs Steve for Mojang does not recognize Steve as having canon character lore (outside their trailers)

Different doesn't mean better. There is a reason why most fans avoid making Minecraft content in live-action. Some do exist, but they are mostly used for shitposts and memes. The stop-motion Lego fanmade videos inspired the Lego movie, and people loved it. They used 3D, but they still gave the stop motion personality to it.

@@thegiftedfire3470 you kinda made your entire comment the opposite of "different doesn't mean better" like when you said that popular stop motion Lego fan made videos that were done in 3d and used the stop motion personality to it. the reason people enjoyed it so much was that the people who made it didn't go over the top with taking fictional characters and making them HYPER-realistic, which unfortunately is what the Minecraft movie is doing here, while the Lego movie didn't, as it still had it's cartoony and fictional feel to it, which is why people liked it so much. the Minecraft movie tries taking animals such as the llama other mobs to match the real world as MUCH as possible, which just makes them look uncanny. now, I just wanna address I'm not trying to argue with you, I was just pointing out some holes in your logic and just giving my opinion on the whole thing. I just wish it was a movie where the world of Minecraft was seen as common and not an abnormality. I'm kind of tired of "woah, we're in this world now?", "woah, I can do this now?", and "wait, you're not from our world?" tropes in movies. I wish we had a movie that leaned into the absurdity of Minecraft and played it completely straight, more like the LEGO movie did. Have a movie where Creepers are an everyday tragedy, building dirt houses to survive is a common coming of age moment, capes are a status symbol, standing in place and crouching repeatedly is a common greeting, etc. Minecraft Story Mode did a lot of this pretty well, with how it'd take elements of the game and its community and fit them into the story; I think that'd be better for a film like this.

Main characters need to be relatable of course, Luke's struggles and ambitions connect with audiences, my criticism is this, imagine if luke said on the Falcon, "wow, I wonder how this makes gravity!", or at the meal scene with his aunt & uncle, said "wow, why does this milk happen to be blue". Characters who explicitly question the world building to the audience are destructive to the story. We know that the milk Luke drinks is blue, we don't need the in-world characters to acknowledge that we know.

I actually really like live action. For one I feel like an animated movie could be more childish then what the live action one is. For two I always imagined when I was younger what would happen if someone got stuck in the world of Minecraft and had to learn to live there. In terms of the plot I am seeing in the trailers and teaser I am not happy. I also think this could have been an opportunity to have big Minecraft creators in the movie, just like how a bunch of creators were in FNAF. But yeah that’s my take on it.

It doesn’t fix the decision, it’s clear that the reason they cast famous actors and made it live action is to appeal to the most basic demographic possible by putting famous actors on the movie poster. The decisions for the movie weren’t calculated to be unique and special they were calculated to be what would make them the most money and they know that I think that’s why they’re trying to spend it like this prop to them for at least trying, but we all know that the real reason they did this is for money.

Tbh I'm okay with it being live action (I'd prefer it animated) but I don't like that everything is blocky and only the people are normal. They should have made a realistic documentary style movie like those national geographic documentaries, or like those realistic pokemon shorts you can find on youtube. Keep jack black as steve, cast some people as villagers, don't really highlight any plot here. Just make it seem like you're following Steve in his natural habitat, move show a villager in his natural habitat for a bit, maybe follow a creeper, a skeleton, or an enderman for a while. Then end off with Steve again. This is Minecraft. It doesn't need a convoluted plot, just have a narrator and make it somewhat funny.

I would say that there is nothing wrong with the idea of making different styles and ideas off of the story Minecraft. Like having a Minecraft movie story from a red stone maker pov, a creative-mode builder pov Minecraft, (or even a Jack Black version of the Minecraft movie.) The problem is is that way too much is dependent on this film being good. If it doesn’t pull in the amount of money WB wants, they’ll never make another Minecraft film. Which is so sad because there is a whole multiverse of amazing stories, animation and realistic, that can be told in Minecraft movies.
