I have lived in Alaska since 98 and absolutely love it! My husband and I were gifted a Stan Stevens cruise and we went down for our 20th Anniversary. Just before our trip I broke my tibia, but we already had the trip planned and paid for our hotel. I was in a wheelchair when we went down to Valdez to take our cruise. The crew was fantastic helping me. To get to the boat you have to go down a ramp and low tide, almost straight down, I was starting to get anxious about getting down the ramp. When they went to get me down the ramp I was in safe hands. To get me down they turned me backwards and hooked my chair up to a wench, my husband said the look in my face was priceless. I really want to go down and take another cruise now that I can walk again (was in the wheelchair for 2 years from complications with another injury.

Valdez was our favorite place to visit in Alaska. The highway getting there was spectacular too. We enjoyed eating at the Fat Mermaid and a startup barbecue on one of the side streets. We rode our bikes all over, from the harbor to the fishery. Just amazing! We also went to the cannery and bought cans of salmon. Thanks for refreshing our memories of a most excellent trip.

Kathy that sounds like an amazing trip! The canneries are not open for retail right now due to Covid-19 restrictions. In 2019, we bought crab legs there for well below retail and felt like kings enjoying them for a few weeks after in the RV! We're so glad you're along for the journey. 👍 -Howard

My stepmother lived through the heart of that earthquake. She was 15, the oldest of 7 kids and she vividly recalls the horrors of the trembling, violently opening cracks in the earth, exploding oil towers, and approaching tidal wave. Such a tragedy and significant event in American History.
