According to frightliner the caliper bolts are one time use and should be replace when ever removed.

Things that are a safety concern in this video. 1. Reuse of wheel seal and no cleaning of spindle. 2. Reuse of caliper bolts and caliper after using heat on them. 3. Over torque of disk to hub. When he went over them with a torque wrench afterwards they were already well past torque spec due to the use of an impact and they didn't turn at all with the torque wrench. 4. Improper bearing set technique and no check for end play. 5. No cleaning of wheel studs and mating surfaces. 6. Using a 1 inch impact to torque the wheel nuts well over spec instead of securing them with a lighter impact gun and then tightening them to full spec with a torque wrench. For the safety of everyone on the road please do not repeat these mistakes. If anyone is unsure how to properly do a procedure or repair please check the manufacturers recommendations.

you missed the biggest mistake in this video, these guys used a old brake pad and put it behind the new pad instead of rebuilding caliper or buying new everything else you said is spot on.

Bro next time don't beat on the hub to separate it from the rotor. Beat on the rotor. You are going to replace it, so it doesn't matter if you ding it or bend it with the hammer.

What are your thoughts on disc brakes vs old school drums? Is it better or worse?
@valeriumoscalu75803 жыл бұрын
If it to speak about maintance I prefer drum brakes because it's faster and easier to do maintenance, but if to speak about braking performance definitely disc brakes, rotors a much better than drums, faster cooling down, lasting longer, and braking much better! A little expansive too but ia worth it!!!

Do maintenance in time! Pads are much cheaper then rotors, just put third set of pads on mine..
@revareva23 жыл бұрын
Wheel seals are more on labor.. In the long run drums much simpler and cheaper... Discs brake is like Ferrari is good when in right hands, I prefer combo truck and trailer, so far I have only on truck,

I see you marked the brake caliper bolts to help with reinstall. My question shouldn't there be a torque spec for those bolts?
@valeriumoscalu75802 жыл бұрын
Yes there should be a specific torque, and you need new bolts by the manual! I didn't found new bolts so used the old ones! Just marked to install them in the same place!

It should have a wear indicator on the caliper, 2 notches. As the pads wear out those 2 notches get closer to each other. At least that’s how it is on Bendix system. This is a Wabco? , I think it should have something similar. When the notches are close that’s when you should remove the wheel and inspect the pads. Remember, since there are no rivets ( like in the brake shoes) the thickness of the pads is good until it reaches 2 mm. If you’re Romanian Salut! Sănătate și numai bine!

Makes me itch that the wheel seal was not replaced our the spindle was cleaned plus reususe of heated bolts coming from some one who does this everyday at a shop were everything is done by the book
@valeriumoscalu7580 Жыл бұрын
If you doing it by the book I can come to you and film a video while you doing it, so we can show step by step how to do it right! The wheel seal was replaced I just did have time to film everything when I am doing it by myself! My hands are dirty most of the time and can't use the phone every moment!

All that work, I bet the rotor and brake are way more expensive than drums and shoes plus wheel seal. I prefer to struck with drums.
@valeriumoscalu75806 ай бұрын
Yes more expensive, and takes longer to replace, but they have a longer life too, and stopping distance is much shorter!

those bolts probably would of came loose with a air gun or using a breaker bar first and shorter extension. but for real did yall use a old brake pad and put behind new ones? if the dot sees that truck, it would be off the road. these guys know how to kind of take it apart but i would not want them in my shop.
