I have to say that the works you have delivered are top class - it motivates me to start my own mega projects in Valheim, thanks!
@9byte2 жыл бұрын
Ayee that makes me happy to hear that! You absolutely should! Just remember "Plan and Land" is the most important part of a build, ESPECIALLY a mega build. Plan- Make the end of the final plan FIRST. Then everything else is built based on that final plan. Much easier this way because you always have something to think about for a theme. Land- Clear your land. Flatten completely where each part of the build will be. Use more than one elevation in the build. So flatten each of them. I like the to leave rocks and bushes at this stage to try and incorporate them into the build later on.

It's still useful having the back wall there. You might not be able to walk an army up to it, but if there is nobody patrolling it, you could send an infiltrator up that side with climbing gear.

Looks amazing. Flying buttresses wouldn’t be used in castle designs just because the exterior supports are too easy to take out for a defensive building. However the location and fortifications of this castle is so good that I doubt anyone could really attack it.
@9byte2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I guess it wasn't meant to be structural or anything. It was really just there for looks but that is some cool insight into flying buttresses, I didn't know that. Thanks for the comment friend!

the game needs a proper horde mode invasion, to push players into building a functional defense system. Your castle would be so much fun to play if such danger does exist
@9byte2 жыл бұрын
for sureee! That would be great!
@dekippiesip Жыл бұрын
You have raids, but they don't hold a candle to builds like these. If the devs made a raid capable of even slightly challenging this castle with like 5 people defending, then that raid would just wreck over 90% of peoples bases, and complaints on reddit would be all over the place haha.

It's sad you can't really play valheim with more than 10 people. I would like a scenario with a number of defenders and attackers on castles like these. Would be really cool. All the defenders have acces to wards covering the base, and the attackers must break through.

What are your system specs that are able to run 22k of instances at 40fps? Optimization mods, game setting, were smoke particle emitters lit at that point?
@9byte2 жыл бұрын
Nvidia 2080 super, i7-10700k 3.80GHz, 16GB ram(I need more), Windows 10. No mods. Just vanilla Valheim. Graphics Settings: I put particle lights and shadow quality to medium, I put Vegetation and Draw distance to very high, I put active point lights and shadows to high. I put frame rate limit to infinite and I have motion blur and Vsync off. I've done experiments loading the game in Vulcan but I haven't really noticed much of a difference. Also side note, any mods that claim to give performance boosts have done nothing or actually made the performance worse in my experiments in Valheim. This test is taken with the torches and fires not lit. When I'm filming this build I only light up the part that I am in. Castle area 1, 2 and 3 are never lit at the same time. If I light everything up at once I go down about another 5 frames which gets me to a point of not being able to get nice smooth shots of everything,. Which is why you'll notice that any shots of the entire build and not just one section at a time have no lights on at all(which is a shame because I really wanted to get some nice shots of the entire thing with all of the lights on but its just not doable without being very choppy).

@@9byte Thanks for detailed response. It was me who asked you to share your world files on reddit as well. I wanted to do a performance fps comparison between your and my system on your build. I'm thinking of buying new PC parts, and I'm asking around other people with big builds, about their specs, fps and settings. If you feel uneasy about sharing your build, would you have time to check how much fps would you have in my build (could send you the files on reddit)? Yeah Valheim optimizations mod has problems when playing in Vulkan. Do you use gfx jobs tweak in Valheim boot.config file?
@9byte2 жыл бұрын
@@MaCarBre Oh nice, glad you came over to KZbin. I wish I could share the files but in the past I have had people steal my (minecraft) saves and claim them as their own so I cant really offer them anymore. It was quite a process to get it all taken down believe me! and I dont know about downloading it onto my system. Sorry man I just don't have to the time to do that for everyone and I wouldn't recommend anybody download files from people they don't know if im being honest. I used to use that change in the boot file but now I use these. -console -window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen Love the enthusiam about Valheim though! Feel free to join the discord and come and hang out and we can talk more about it. My discord is super dead at the moment but hopefully soon it will be a great place to hang out
@MaCarBre2 жыл бұрын
@@9byte I don't really expect people to share their files when asked, so I take no offence for you refusing to do that. Thank you for the detailed comment. Yes, Vulkan only runs only slightly better in few scenarios than d3d11 in exclusive full-screen, however Vulkan is more impervious to bugs that happen in d3d11 regarding trapped smoke particles which wreck performance. Thanks for the discord invite, but I'm not much of a discord hopper. I'm basically only active on Valheim bug section there. I did sub here tho for some of your future builds.

Hey ! really like your work !! i tried to reproduce the towers at the front gate but cant seem to make the roof work , can you explain how you did it ? driving me CRAZY !!!
@9byte2 жыл бұрын
Yeah sure, i'll open up my Valheim now. Remember though these towers are not accessible on the top. These two towers and one other are those only parts that cant be accessed in project. Ok so the front gate towers. The bottom widest portion is 9 meters tall and 5 meters wide and long. The side of the towers connect directly into the wall but the front and back do not, leaving a large amount of blank stone wall so I have 4 meter tall polls to fill in those blank spaces. You will also have to run iron polls up from the ground on the inside corners of the large bottom widest portion to support it. Then the second skinnier layer is just 4 meters tall with 3 meters for the length and the width placed directly on top of the first layer. Make sure to fill in the space below this skinnier layer with stone arches so that it looks cool when you walk under it. Now the tricky part is the top. The top has 4 mostly hidden iron beams that stick out diagonally underneath the corner crenelations that poke out from the sides of the tower. The corner crenelations cannot support themselves. For reference these iron beams are placed 3 meters up the 4 meter tall skinner tower and you cannot see them when you look down the hole in the center of the tower. Now you have the iron beams to support the crenelations you can build them with 3 meter tall stone polls in the corners and stone arches and stone 2m bricks to connect the middle sections. The roof is also going to use the iron beams that support the corners of the crenelations. Break one corner piece of the floor(the 4th brick tall on the skinner tower) at a time and then you can see the iron beam below. Use an iron poll touching the diagonal iron beam. This poll should line up with the inside corner of the crenelations NOT the end of the iron beam. Then you will add a second iron poll on top of those. Cover up the iron polls with 4 meters of dark wood poll. Only 3 meters of the darkwood poll will show once you put the floor back in. To build the roof you will need to add a 1 meter beam facing outwards diagonally on the corners of the dark wood beams. Then connect up the one meter beams with a dark wood beam square. (If you are still wondering how I built this frame you can check out any of the village build series which has roof frames on all of the buildings I think) Then add four 45 degree dark wood roof pieces directly onto the corners of the frame. This will leave gaps in between the roof corner pieces. Fill them with 45 degree beams and you are done. Hope this helps. A bit tricky to explain with text. Feel free to ask any other questions if this is confusing.

"Is this castle practical". That's debatable. As an outlook over the land, it does its job, but as a defensive structure, there are caviots. Structures like theses are really hard to maintain. Everything that is needed needs to be brought up the trail to the castle on top of the mountain. That means that supplying the castle is in and of itself a major expense of manpower. This is why a very large amount of real world medieval castles are in such a state disrepair nowadays. Quite a few were just abandoned, because they were too costly to maintain. Practical also has other implications. Such a position on top of a mountain certainly gives a great oversight over the lands, but often, the more militarily significant location is a pass which allows access through the mountain, or a port city, or any other natural choke point that can be used to contain an advancing army. A mountain top is not one of those choke points. In other words, the importance of a castle on top of a mountain as a military structure is often rather dubious. An advancing army can likely just ignore, or bypass the castle and move onto the more militarily significant target. It does mean the risk of leaving enemies at the rear, but that risk is more manageable than the risk involved in trying to take such a strong defensive position.
